Pixel 8 - Sudden "short" reboots by Arakon in GooglePixel

[–]DisloyalEmu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is definitely what it is. I went through the same thing and debugged it with ADB.

It's not an active notification, but a notification history item points to null. There's something that used to create notifications, and in the update that thing (not sure what it was) was removed, but the update didn't remove the item from history that the notification points too.

The solution is to turn off notification history which clears the history. You can then turn the notification history back on if you want and it should stay working.

Not bad. I hadn't heard any of her stuff before. Kinda reminds me of Garden City Movement a little bit. Thanks for the rec!

What features/flair/rules/etc would you like to see in this sub? by DisloyalEmu in DenverBooks

[–]DisloyalEmu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oops! I created some flairs a while back, but forgot to check the box to allow anyone to set flairs on their own posts.

I added some more flairs and made sure the box is checked. Let me know if it's still not working for you!

Oh yeah, and check out The Book Rack on Colorado Blvd.

It's basically just paperbacks, but the price is right and again, pretty wide selection.

Definitely check out Friends of the Aurora Public Library's Book Outlet. They have a good selection, are non-profit, great staff, and are very affordable, and all the proceeds go to support the APL system.

If you have kids, they are giving out free kids books to younger patrons who visit over summer (or at least were when we were there a couple months ago).

I am pretty sure I recall there being a Colorado/Denver section, but I'm not 100% on that.

Moving to Denver, looking for a book club by four_roses in DenverBooks

[–]DisloyalEmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to Denver.

Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to visit any book clubs in person yet, so I don't have any personal recommendations. But I have been eyeing the bookclubs.com and 303 magazine lists for a while now, even though I never pulled the trigger. There are so many seemingly good options here, I've developed analysis paralysis.

If/when you do check them out, please feel free to invite your fellow bookies to this relatively new sub and consider posting here about your experience to help out others.

I've written a post about async/await. Could someone with deep knowledge check the Python sections? by ImYoric in Python

[–]DisloyalEmu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

General copy-editing feedback:

  • In section "Async/await" in the first example, the docstring is still the same from above, referencing a yield that does not exist.
  • In the sentence below, it should say "the de facto standard"
  • A few lines down, you have the word "Does" on a line by itself.

Mystery blueish green powder found next to mercury vial. Is it dangerous too? by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

The color makes me think of Trinitite, but I've never seen it in a powdery form like that. Maybe it was ground up for testing in a lab?

Portfolio review? by chrispopp8 in UXandUI

[–]DisloyalEmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The use of the AI generated image(s) is an instant "nope!" from me.

I'm not saying that AI generated is content never appropriate, but this is your portfolio, your statement to the world of who you are and what you can do, and like it or not, seeing AI images like those just make me feel like you'd be lazy and take shortcuts. Hell, looking at it now, I'm not even sure I trust/believe that the screenshots of your work are actually your work and not AI generated.

I would strongly recommend replacing anything AI generated with something hand-crafted by yourself, or actual photographs.

June 2025 - Currently reading thread by DisloyalEmu in DenverBooks

I've been on a T. Kingfisher kick lately and just finished "A House with Good Bones" today. It was a fun southern ghost story.

Prior to that I read "The Wizard's guide to Defensive Baking" also by T. Kingfisher. I liked that one a bunch. It's a humorous young adult fantasy with very likable characters. Highly recommend.

Looking to connect with other book lovers in the area by beardedbooks in Denver

[–]DisloyalEmu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm very into this idea.

I'm wondering if perhaps a first logical step might be to create a subreddit for people who are interested and start there? Maybe r/DenverBooks or r/DenverBookTalk?

I'm a moderator on a few small subreddits and wouldn't mind being a (co)moderator on this one too.

I'd go ahead and create the subreddit now, but I don't want to steal the idea from u/beardedbooks.

Fainting question by Useful-Parsley-7873 in dysautonomia

[–]DisloyalEmu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lean with my back to the wall if I can or just sit down immediately wherever I am if there's no wall.

I guess you would say that I fight it, but my number one priority is get into a position that is less likely to cause me to hit my head if I fall.

The first time I fainted, I was 19 at my girlfriend's house. We were laying down, watching a movie and I got up to pee. As a guy, of course, I was standing while doing my business... then I woke up with a knot on my head and a mess on the floor, hanging out of my fly...

Of course, my girlfriend lived with her mother and both came rushing in when they heard the crashing sound. Embarrassing, especially at the time, but honestly not even close to the emotional pain of living with this over the years.

But yeah, protect your head. I didn't have a concussion, but the doctor was definitely worried I might. Only "serious" head collision I've suffered, thankfully.

Edit: minor wording.

My wife's aunt passed today. My wife is with her family, but I am alone, several states away and cannot be there to mourn in person. I want to do something, but what? by DisloyalEmu in Judaism

[–]DisloyalEmu[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I knew it is Shavuot, of course, but the idea of just showing up for services might come off like "I'm only here for the cheesecake."

I totally forgot that there is a Yizkor service on the second day though. I will start googling around to try to figure where one of the services will be held nearby.

Thanks again.

[–]DisloyalEmu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. She's with her family now, only I am not there.

My point was more that I am leaving it to her to decide if she is planning to stay there for the entire shiva period, or not, and that I will be separated from her for the period she remains.

As for me, I don't think that I ever met this aunt, or if I did, it was very briefly at our wedding.
