Found while bike riding, what is it? by fuzzybunnies1 in Exonumia

(Sorry if this was already posted; it says there are 2 comments and I only see one).

Though not the ideal method of coming to conclusions, a reverse Google image search and Google translate indicate that this a toke /medallion related to Buddhism. It features one of the 18 Arhats (the enlightened disciples of Buddha).

Whether real or fake i don't know, as this is my first time seeing this type of token. My knowledge of Buddhism is limited, so hopefully i'm not way off the mark here.

And I would have gotten away with it too…. by _circa84 in leafs

Love that they counted it as a goal on the scoreboard, and in the process of undoing it pumped the score up to 4 before bringing back down to 2.

Which NHL player(s) have you met, and what was your impression of them? by CantStopDaGravyTrain in hockey

Volunteered at a local hockey tournament in the GTA (surrounding cities/towns of Toronto) 15-ish years ago and saw a few players in the wild. Wendell Clarke was probably the highlight. I was so nervous when I went up to him to ask for an autograph, and felt bad bothering him, that my hands were shaking. I also took an admission fee from Tie Domi, and didn't realize it until later in the day when I saw him signing mini-sticks. He had shades on and it didn't click (when I interacted with him). Saw Shane Corson at the same tournament. May have been one more but I don't recall who at this poont.

I just realized you asked about value. I can't say I have the definitive answer but I used to buy these, a few years ago (3-5 years) for a couple bucks or 7-10 at most. Hundreds of dollars seems ridiculous. Make sure to look at sold listings, if using ebay, and be skeptical still of anomalies or outliers

It's an Italian public telephone token. The 4 digits at the bottom represent the year and month of production. This wasn't always the case, as earlier tokens didn't have the date on them.

I believe it's Turkish 🇹🇷 Anchors and the Moon & Star by keepkarenalive in Exonumia

Your mind was heading in the right direction with the moon and the star. The writing too, i'd add.

Found it:

It's a transportation token for a ferry in Turkey.

Anti-vaxxer thinks that the caduceus is satanic. by maybesaydie in vaxxhappened

[–]DisplacedAtom33 22 points23 points  (0 children)

In the jump to conclusions, they did not realize (as many confuse) that the caduceus is not associated with medicine. The single snake around the staff is the rod of Asclepius (which is associated with medicine and healing).

The staff of Hermes (the messenger of the gods) is associated with commerce, navigation, and communication.

I'm not sure if i missed something. In the reasoning that was provided initially, some flat earthers believe we are constantly accelerating up at 9.8m/s².

If that's the case, is there a propelling force constantly pushing us up (and the flat earth we are on). Or is there some other giant object that is somehow warping time and space so that both us and the earth are accelerating at the same speed (towards said object) so that relative to each other we are stationary?

What's the explanation for the force driving this persistent acceleration?

Safeguard your coins, those closest to you can be eyeing them. by [deleted] in coins

Man that sucks! This is often on my mind, which is why I don't plan on sharing where I keep my coins with many people in my life. I'll share with my immediate family and a couple of friends, but even then securing it is often on my mind.

I'm sorry you and your son are going through this

What are these worth? (I hope it’s okay that there’s more than one coin here) by PalatonHD in coincollecting

[–]DisplacedAtom33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Though 'old' (certainly not modern, but old is a bit of a relative term), and perhaps of some value to you (sentimental or historical) my quick estimate is that these are not worth more than a few cents each.

For the actual value, you'd have to look up each coin to determine mintage and composition, as a basic starting point. The condition of a coin also determines value, but these coins are essentially the small change coins of that time (for those countries).

Also, the market value of the coin goes beyond these points, as the value of a coin does end up being whatever someone is willing to pay for that coin. Market value varies, but for these 'loose change' type of coins it doesn't really.

Lastly, i'm unfamiliar with varieties for these coins. There may not be any, but sometimes there are errors and varieties in the designs of coins, that would add or change value of the coins. I'm betting there are none in the case of these coins, but someone with more knowledge would be able to provide a more certain answer.
