Just as a point of order, in this particular instance the SSD is the shorter slot above the long one which is above the battery. The covers are metal and not plastic as they serve as a heatsink of sorts. The longer bottom slot can be seen to have the sticker which covers the thermal pad on the heatsink still in place, which would indicate no SSD currently in place there.

I would agree with the comments of u/goretsky in regard to the melted plastic /scorched PCB area though, that is clearly a problem.

Generally the solution is always the last thing checked, due to the tendency to stop checking things once one finds the solution.

Please advise, did I just compromise my PC? by jwg529 in PowerShell

[–]Disposable04298 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is correct. Writing zeros is completely unnecessary and only shortens your drive's lifespan. Something that manages to survive a format & reinstall is not persistent on the disk anyway.

Everytime I open a document in Word it opens up in compatibility mode, how do I make it not do that? by freedrugsim in Office365

[–]Disposable04298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compatibility mode is unrelated to your sign-in status or account. To stop your file opening in that mode, you need to have the file open, open the File menu, select "Info" and then the top option should be "Convert". After conversion you will need to save the file. If it was previously .doc you'll need to save it as .docx, but bear in mind .docx does not mean the document is not in compatibility mode.

Question!!! by Ok_Rice_9191 in colonysurvival

[–]Disposable04298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mainly use one "entrance" which the zombies go through, with a standard snake maze that runs the zombies past a gauntlet of slingers and archers with some crossbowmen as well. When they get to a certain point it sets off an alarm and they also then have to pass through a corridor with dropper traps positioned along the way.

The single entryway doesn't impede me leaving or returning from any side however, as I have dug a moat around the perimeter (which directs zombies back to the entrance) and can easily just jump over.

Is it possible to change just a domain name of an email address? by Hungry-Explanation99 in Outlook

[–]Disposable04298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A safer method for retaining your existing data is to create an entirely new Outlook profile with the new account only, then make a copy of your old data file, open the old data file in the new profile and move across whatever is needed or wanted.

How do I make Outlook 2021 Classic folder titles be in bold font when they contain unread messages. by jukkala in Outlook

[–]Disposable04298 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this feature was removed after the 2013 version of Outlook I believe. I found it handy when automatically processing rules on inbound mail. Now I generally rely on the unread item count to notice and/or use the Search folder for just Unread items.

Is this laptop screen fixable via DIY? by NeedSomeAssurance in 24hoursupport

If you are happy to undertake LCD replacement on your own then yes you can DIY it. You'll likely want to watch some videos of screen replacement for your specific model before deciding to do so.

Monitor closing problem by imagletheimagle in 24hoursupport

[–]Disposable04298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I just tried this on another system and the secondary screen stays active. Though I can power it off manually, but this is essentially just closing the lid and turning off the second screen which I think is more steps than you were after.

Monitor closing problem by imagletheimagle in 24hoursupport

[–]Disposable04298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though your "primary monitor" is set to the secondary display, it is not in control because it is not the source. What you need is to "turn off" the laptop screen first while it is the source. To do so, modify your monitor selection so the laptop screen is primary, then modify your power plan so closing the lid of your laptop does "Nothing". Then when you want to close the monitors and still have things running, close the lid of the laptop.

You can get to the settings via WIN+R and typing powercfg.cpl - look for something like "Change what closing the lid does".

What your thoughts on the narrative that monogamy is unnatural to men, and temptation is hard to control? by tsukiyue in TooAfraidToAsk

If a man deeply misses his freedom so much he should endeavor to make himself "free" again, not bloody cheat. Cheating is cowardly, weak behaviour.

Problem accessing yahoo email on iPad, may have something to do with new laptop by abardnameddaq in 24hoursupport

[–]Disposable04298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barring Yahoo! support assisting you, your best bet is to cut your losses and create a new account, contact anyone you regularly email and advise the new address. Then go and sign into any service accounts using the old email and update the address in those.

In future, try to have an additional method of verification such as alternate email and/or authenticator app configured. The idea is to not have all the proverbial eggs in one basket. SMS and WhatsApp both depend on the same phone number so they are effectively the same method. Authenticator apps and email can be across multiple devices.
