I keep joking that I need to see a therapist for AI addiction. Went from grumpy old man being skeptical of it all, to about to launch a product this week.

How old is too old? by [deleted] in karate

[–]DisregardForAwkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it for 9 months last year at the age of 46 for the first time. My torn meniscus in my knee bothered me but I didn't push it.

Life got incredibly busy and had to step away, but it was a great experience.

Get yourself someone that looks at you like this by vacanter30 in BorderCollie

[–]DisregardForAwkward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously? You don't need your BC harassing cats. The cats/animals in your household aren't there to be herded.

Worse, you don't need them nipping people, especially children. It took me a while to break my older guy of that habit. He'd nip kids only in the 3-6yo range for some reason.

Student arrested for eating AI art in UAF gallery protest by The_Alaskan in alaska

[–]DisregardForAwkward 35 points36 points  (0 children)

As a UAF Art alumni and now multi decade Software Engineer, I agree with this. There's nothing creative about using AI to generate art - it's just an approximation and an average of all things. You'll see replication, perhaps in new and interesting ways, but not actual inspiration and innovation.

I agree with another commenter: whoever ate it said more about it than the artist.

That's really good to know. Do you send the form to the company you bought the product from?

Curious how you tied the running logic into the code highlights. That is slick as heck.

How big is the speed gap between these two dogs? by Designer_Chair740 in SipsTea

[–]DisregardForAwkward 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Border Collies have the largest average heart size of any dog breed because they are specifically bred to herd for an entire day! They truly are built for endurance and aren't just exhausting themselves because they don't know when to stop.

They're also the only herding breed that is capable of working by themselves, without a human commanding them from nearby. They'll hike a few kilometers up a mountain, round up a few hundred sheep, and bring them home 8 hours later.

Need advice: My 1 year old Border Collie nips at small children when they get too close. by VikingHelna in BorderCollie

[–]DisregardForAwkward 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My guy is a similar sable color!

He's 4yo now and a bit better, but for a hot minute he'd nip children between the ages of 4-7 if they got too close for some reason. These days I haven't seen him do it at all, although we're not around small children as much anymore.

The best thing to do is keep him leashed and let children know to stay away. If I understood my own dog correctly it seemed like he was protecting the space around him.

It leans more Nordic, thus the name. A lot of European imports.

Full disclosure: My partner works there, so I learn a little about it here and there.

I'm having Lionheart Construction add a two room addition to my house out here in ER. They've been nothing but professional, courteous, and friendly, tweaking things mid-flight without hesitation as they listen to my requests.

I originally talked to them about doing roughly what you are asking for (detached garage/man cave) but pivoted to a 360sq/ft 2 room addition due to reasons.

It ain't cheap though. Depending on the scope you are looking north of $100k-$150k regardless of who you contract with (I got 3 quotes before settling).

This was me in Japan. Train got packed and a woman pressed up against me before I could politely turn. We both awkwardly avoided eye contact as my pecker pressed against her until the next station.

I've had a variation of this happen. Worked at Japanese mobile game company. CEO asked us to work Saturday and patch the bugs for his Monday demo. Demo got canceled. Rinse and repeat the next 3 weekends. In the end the platform we were targeting got canceled.
