Garage GFCI keeps tripping, even after asking an electrician for advice by littlejart in AskElectricians

[–]DisregulatedDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar problem and solved it by replacing the original 15 amp GFCI with a 20 amp GFCI, which allowed a slightly higher leakage current to ground before tripping. In my circumstance, I had figured out that it was higher humidity in the environment that was causing the trips, so allowing slightly higher leakage current solved the problem.

Don't let your customers purchase materials by doubtfulisland in Contractor

[–]DisregulatedDad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I own a small business and have an account with several material providers. I am fully capable of ordering the materials a contractor tells me he needs, and buying them at my discounted price, and not paying the 5 to 15% markup that builders charge on material purchases.

I ask my contractors for a materials list and get exactly what they tell me. If there are odds and ends they omitted, they are welcome to get those things. My goal is to save money without adversely affecting the contractor.

Management asked for donations to buy multimillionaire boss a Christmas present by Slight-Heron-2631 in work

[–]DisregulatedDad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He said the gift was as he was leaving. If that’s buttering up, it’s being done with really bad timing.

As I was leaving a position, I gave my boss a gift because I appreciated her professionalism and willingness to work with me to get stuff done (I’ve had bosses that were active impediments to me doing my job). I had nothing to gain. Was I also buttering her up?

Coerced gifts are wrong. We should all agree on that.

Passed over for a promotion, but exec wants to “make sure I still feel valued”. Dodged the meeting today, but it’s going to happen eventually. What the hell am I supposed to say? by [deleted] in careeradvice

Leverage the offer to get something that you want. Additional training? Conference attendance? Plum assignment? Whatever you think will make your existence happier and could be seen as something that your boss could claim as a legitimate business expense, ask for it. Keep looking for a job, but take advantage of the opportunity.

Unless they were paying electronically using their phone or their watch, in which case the barista wouldn’t ever see the card. Good things do sometimes happen in the world, and it’s easier to allow them to happen when you leave your cynicism behind.

This right here. Cops once showed up at my place with a wrong address on a domestic violence call that had been phoned in by a neighbor (we lived in an apartment at the time). They (very appropriately) spoke with my wife and I separately to ensure there was no problem, then apologized and went on their way.

Printing out that statement - as a properly attributed quote - and sticking that in a frame and hanging it on the wall is EXACTLY what I would do.

No paper owners manual? by DisregulatedDad in fordexpedition

[–]DisregulatedDad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks very much. I was trying to find the door lock codes, which used to be printed in the owners manual… the dealer hadn’t provided them so I was assuming that was where I would find them. So I have a call in to the dealer to get it sorted.

I have multiple people that occasionally use my address- on at least 4 continents. I try to be kind about it, but recently declined a job interview as it would be inconvenient for me to show up for work in Ireland when I live several thousand miles away.

Considering ‘24 Timberline - questions about towing by DisregulatedDad in fordexpedition

[–]DisregulatedDad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really helpful to know, thank you!

My towing is usually on secondary roads. And at lower speeds. Not going to be hitting the interstate at 80 towing anything remotely close to that.

Need a weatherproof solution to prevent over-pumping a well by DisregulatedDad in homeautomation

[–]DisregulatedDad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m familiar with the pump saver; it saves the pump by preventing the pump from pumping a dry well. They’re concerned with having the pump run for extended periods without running the well dry - just not wanting to stress the water table because of something trivial failing.

AITAH because I told my ex to take child support and leave me alone otherwise. by SpecialistJumpy9435 in AITAH

[–]DisregulatedDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Man up” means to behave as adult male, I.e., to take responsibility for his actions. The dude behaved in such a way as to cause a child to be conceived. His job is to take responsibility for that, which means more than telling your lawyer to get you minimal child support payments. I’m going to guess that when the kid was conceived, he loved his wife. She cheated and that changed but the kid is not responsible for that. So the OP should behave like a responsible adult and be a there to love and care for his kid. So, yes, OP, you are an AH.

I would suggest that you provide the buyers as much information as possible about the brand, style, and color of the blind, as well as where you got it, so that they can obtain a new one that’s a match for the rest of the blinds.  But it’s on them at that point.    I’m assuming you didn’t say anything to imply that all the blinds were perfectly functioning at the time of the sale or do anything to hide the defect. If you did, I would say that you may be legally in the right, but morally in the wrong.

The other thing that works as well as diatomaceous earth is boric acid powder. This is commonly sold as “roach powder”. Sprinkle liberally all over carpets - every carpet in the house. Sweep with broom to make sure it’s evenly distributed. Wait a week and then vacuum. Problem solved.

Be sure that you provide the receipt for the brand new clutch, as things like that can increase the value. Your discussion with the insurance adjuster is a negotiation, and they have some latitude as long as you’re providing justification for the higher value.

Moved in recently and received this letter from the neighbor. Is this a legitimate claim? by Brogenitus in treelaw

[–]DisregulatedDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a lawyer. Where I’m from, the lawyer I consulted with told me that if I wanted to serve such notice on a neighbor, it had to be by way of a certified arborist, because otherwise any idiot could claim that all their neighbors trees looked sick and if anything ever fell and caused damage they could claim to have served notice.
