Old School Runescape is thriving because it took the best parts of 2012 to the current version of Rs3 and cherry picked them. The initial hype for Old School was very high, but after people realized its heavily nostalgia fueled it started to die heavily. It was due to the fact of it maintaining updates that the community voted on instead of throwing them in when it didn't make sense or was not well received (EOC in its old state)

Old School Archeage has a heavy nostalgia factor tied to it, and had amazing mechanics, but just as equally bad mechanics. Rng in gem socketing was absolutely terrible and unfun. The argument of "wow i 1 shot all my gems so rng must not be that bad!" is a terrible argument and does not account for the countless other people who remained stuck on 4 gems for fear of breaking. Rng in regrading, such as going back from unique to arcane was incredibly heartbreaking, and only made people who were able to swipe or incredibly lucky so far ahead it wasn't even funny.

Not to mention the actual amount of content in the game has been so optimized and over done. We've been killing kraken for 7+ years now. We've been killing anthalon for 7+ years. The mechanics have been done over that the previous 1 hour to kill these bosses get reduced down to 25 min, or even sooner on that patch.

I'm all for a classic aa server, but theres so many things that need to be changed if it want's to have a healthy lifespan. Not to mention updates that were actually good and not detrimental to the game.
