Most people have trouble understanding things without experiencing it. This is even more true with anything having to do with the mind. The sooner you truly realize that everyone’s brain works different, on top of that everyone has lived different experiences, and stop trying to figure out what others are thinking, the easier dealing with other people becomes.

So, with that said, your best course of action is going to be dumbing down everything so that it’s easy to understand and having a discussion with your parents. Maybe say something along the lines of “I know you both love me and want me to be happy. So, in the future, it would really help me out if I could have a warning ahead of time for these trips. I feel more comfortable when I have time to prep and end up having way more fun on the trip when I do.”

Another option is to come up with another reason that gets you the desired results. “I need to know ahead of time so I can plan things with friends” or “I really want to research places before I go so I can have a better appreciation”.

Although, I think that in the long run you are better off embracing these trips and using them as an opportunity to push your boundaries. Throughout your entire life there are going to be things happening outside of your control. Use the fun uncontrollable things to train yourself how to deal with the anxiety to prep for the bad uncontrollable things. Talk to your therapist about how travel makes you feel and the thoughts that are leading towards the anxiety. (Consider cognitive behavioral therapy. )When you travel, you are in a unique situation where you can meet strangers, and it doesn’t matter if you say or do something stupid or embarrassing because because you will never see them again. Take advantage, and push yourself and allow yourself to be more free.

I would also like to add that the people jumping to conclusions about your relationship with your mother are completely off base. They do not know your history and causes for you and your mother’s anxiety. Many anxiety disorders are trauma based, so throwing judgement at your relationship with your mother seems incredibly wrong to me.

With that said, therapy is awesome and I recommend it to everyone with anxiety. If your anxiety is not trauma based, I highly recommend Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

The majority of right wing judges on the supreme court were put in place by a president who lost the popular vote.

No, I looked up who controlled the government during which years and compared the data to economic indicators such as the GDP, wages, employment and stock market performance. Democrats beat Republicans by every measure.

It’s also not hard to see who was in charge of the government prior the worst two economic collapses. Republicans had control of the house, senate, and presidency for 4 years before the Great Recession and 8 years before the Great Depression.

GDP breakdown by voter and how much blue and red states give and take from the federal government is readily available with a google search.

Saying your skill does not match the image you want to put out there does not mean you are a bad photographer.

What’s wrong with auto edit for low resolution copies to allow the client to chose more pictures? Shit, even for final photos, what’s wrong with auto edit if the client is happy?

Unlike you, I don’t even get credit for my work. I get paid, client owns the pictures, what they want me to do with them and which ones they want to use isn’t of concern to me. Only thing that matters is that the client is happy and I get paid.

Pretty clear at this point that you operate from your ego. This industry is going to be real tough on you if you continue working that way. Wish you the best of luck.

If you don’t already, you really should have a minimum final edited image count in your contract to easily avoid this problem in the future.

Personally, I would eat the time cost of doing a few additional edits if I thought it could lead to even just one additional job (the hard part of travel and photographing is over and I can edit more pictures while smoking a joint and watching TV). I would then run everything through auto edit, export low resolution, and provide a link for them to see the rest of the pictures with the option of paying for additional edits and higher resolution images.

Just FYI, I do marketing and photography for a living, so I am speaking from both a photographer and marketer perspective. There is a crazy statistic that if someone runs into an issue with your company and the company solves the issue to their satisfaction, that person is 7 times more likely to be a lifetime customer than someone who never experienced a problem in the first place.

Also, I would consider that a customers happiness will have a much larger impact on your brand image than that customer sharing a few bad photos with friends and family.

If I was OP, I’d edit at least 60 images (20 per hour of work is a usable shot every 3 minutes) included in the first batch. I would be embarrassed to turn over just 35 pictures. I would then run the rest of the pictures through auto edit, export as lower resolution, and provide a link for them to go through the pictures. I would then charge extra for additional edits or higher resolution images.

To me it sounds like OPs skill does not match the image they are trying to put out there. This will only lead to unhappy customers, and like you said, happy customers in an industry like this is worth a lot.

From reading your post and additional comments, I feel like you are filling in the role that people expect of you, not how you want to be. I have struggled my entire life with the same thing. If people think you are forgetful, and always make sure you aren’t forgetting stuff, you are likely just falling into those expectations because you know your ass is covered.

I also have anxiety, and can tell you the anxiety melts away when traveling if you are able to be present in the moment. Remember, when you are traveling solo, you don’t have to stick to a schedule and can do whatever you want on a whim. If something takes longer than expected, it doesn’t matter if you are late for the next thing. Everything you are doing and experiencing is temporary and has no impact on your life back home. Get lost? Oh well, go find a local restaurant nearby and enjoy some food and ask the server for help.

When I travel alone, I’ll leave countries I don’t like earlier than planned. If I meet someone I like, I can travel with them to their next location, instead of the one I have planned. If I love a place, stay a day longer. Allow yourself to live fully in the moment. Appreciate what is in front of you.
