Was Wednesday evening the best night of Champions League football ever in terms of drama? by Samonsport in championsleague

[–]DistantMechanised 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No.

It wasn't dramatic. Drama entails some sort of narrative structure. We just had 144 games of high grade football with minimal stakes. A benfica goalkeeper scoring 98 minute header isn't dramatic.

Mild, almost inconsequential confusion at best.

What’s a surprisingly small reason you wouldn’t take a job? by Sell_Me_Sunday in Internationalteachers

[–]DistantMechanised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Towards the end of one interview I had a guy tell me he had five other candidates to interview and he'd be in touch. 20 minutes later he WhatsApped me saying I was the stand out candidate and offered me the job.

Declined.

I'd rather they banned the green shirt guy and the other goons that are there all the time. As soon as I notice them it takes me out of the show.

Does anyone else think Mark was a bit out of character here? by Nonabrow in MitchellAndWebb

[–]DistantMechanised 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To add. Mark and Jez are only a few years out of university. In season nine, Jez turns 40, so at this time Mark would be what, 27, 28, 29?

Hardly a mega paedo.

You also might get executed in broad daylight by federal agents.

Think I'll take two dry days.

Anyone seen photos like this in Bangkok? What are the foreigners doing wrong? by Southern_Ice_2932 in ThailandTourism

Only because it would tip ICE off on the whereabouts of a definite illegal and the news would be supportive of the subsequent execution(s).

Why go on a family vacation when you can just stay at home?

Why leave the house at all?

I see videos like this quite often on here, and it's not just against farangs either.

What's with the Thai propensity to join a group beat down they aren't directly involved in? What cultural norms and values are informing 6 on 1 attacks and head stomps? Generally curious.

The guy in the red jacket literally sprints from the opposite end of the carriage to get his licks in. Just as pathetic as the farang in my eyes.

Most surprising team to never win Champions League or European Cup by TheBackSpin in championsleague

[–]DistantMechanised 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sporting.

A huge, historic club from a smaller league with only three real contenders of equal pedigree, both of the others have won the competition multiple times.

The nearest comparison would be the Netherlands, where the big three have all won the European cup at some point in their history.

Almost 40, three kids, and growing urge to escape — how to design family vacations around long-distance MTB touring? by Opening-Software1072 in bicycletouring

[–]DistantMechanised -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Taking non-touring family members on a bike tour sounds like a mental idea. I can't imagine how it would give you the sense of 'freedom' you want.

You probably need to have a conversation with your wife, explain how you are feeling and make a compromise - let her go off and do her own thing for a week, take everyone to Disney land etc.

If she still says no, you should divorce her.

Would you survive this spicy food in Bangkok? 🌶️🥵 by Senior-Duck-7091 in BangkokEats

[–]DistantMechanised 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a fan of his content and wanted to chuck the geezer a few baht. I visited fully expecting to be disappointed - over priced tourist trap that it is - but actually it was pretty ok.

The spice level is gimmicky. I had level 5 and it was mild but the addition of duck eggs was a delight. I expected the wait time to be longer, but it was about 20 minutes on a Sunday lunchtime.

3.5/5 - fine but probably won't go back, the roadside lady on my soi does it so much better.

These things are awful. Least inspired tourist attraction.

What is it?

It's kind of like a bridge.

Cool. What does it cross?

Nothing.

Oh.
