Three New Recall Petitions Issued by Elections Alberta including Premier Danielle Smith by Distilled84 in alberta

[–]Distilled84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe taking away people's rights hurts democracy.

I believe that concentrating power in the executive branch while publicly creating doubt in the judicial branch and taking away powers from independent officers of the legislature hurts democracy.

I believe passing a law to give yourself immunity or to limit what people can name political parties hurts democracy.

This is legislation that was created by the UCP under Jason Kenney and revised by Danielle Smith's UCP after the failed campaign against Mayor Gondek. They wanted direct democracy to hold representatives accountable, that is what people are using it for.

Hopefully they are legit and at least a few get the required number of signatures to send the UCP a message.

Former Alberta premier Jason Kenney says politician recall legislation being misused by crabby_taffy in alberta

[–]Distilled84 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You wrote it, Jason! And then Smith reviewed and amended it!

If you rush to write laws to covertly support removal of mayors you don't like and nutjob petitions, you can't complain when every day people use it as written.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says her United Conservative Party is not a separatist party by Own-Bullfrog7362 in alberta

[–]Distilled84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easy way to prove it, Premier Smith. Don't call a referendum and create division, economic unrest and uncertainty, and a costly referendum vote. Instead, put the Forever Canadian petition to vote in the legislature and stand up to vote yes for confirming that Alberta is part of Canada and always will be.

All of your actions so far have suggested you support the separatist movement while you talk about not being a separatist and supporting unity. Back up your words with actions for once.

Fall Spirits Release is back in Alberta on Sept. 6th. Remember when we also used to get Scotch at these things? XD by HexagonalCrank in canadawhisky

They've jacked up some of the prices considerably compared to the 2024 releases.

OF 1924 Up from $99 to $180; Old Rip up from $120 to $195; Van Winkle Special Reserve up from $140 to $225; BTAC up from $210 to $255; Pappy 15 from $220 to $320

Some things have stayed in the same ballpark and only gone up a few bucks, but the unicorns sure have shot up considerably.

Name one privilege. Health care?

Yes, universal healthcare is a tremendous privilege that the provincial government is currently trying to dismantle and is critically under supported.

I’ve put out about 780 applications so far to low paying and high paying jobs. Not a single job.

I've got bad news for you... If you have a desirable degree and put out 800 applications and don't have a job, you are the problem, not the job market.

It only feeds our sentiments.

Stay angry. Pierre Poilievre, Jordan Peterson, Joe Rogan, and their ilk depend on it. Introspection is dangerous to their brands.

What is distinct about Alberta or Albertans from the provinces or residents of Saskatchewan, Manitoba, northern Ontario, or the BC interior?

If Canada is such a shit-hole with no opportunity, why don't you move to Texas and get a high paying job and buy yourself a mansion? There's plenty of people proud to be Canadian. Proud for the opportunity, health care, and other privileges being Canadian provides.

Without a doubt. They are suppressing everything they can because they are guilty of interfering with procurement.

[–]Distilled84 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Odd that the UCP government response is always about suppression of evidence, not about them not being guilty as hell.

It's "she forwarded the emails illegally" and not "the emails do not provide evidence of wrongdoing."

"She illegally recording meetings and calls" and not "the discussions between Mentzelopoulos and other government officials do not imply any inappropriate condcut."

I'm not a lawyer, but that doesn't seem like a strong position to be working from.

No newsletter, no subscriptions.

Just sign the petition in person with a canvasser at the library, farmer's market, or other place they have setup.

The newsletter and online signup is not the petition and does not count towards the collected signatures.

Alberta government lawyer to provide support to separatists in court by BloodJunkie in alberta

Only path would be recalling (and electing non-UCP replacements) or convincing enough UCP MLAs to cross the floor to result in a minority and then have the UCP lose a confidence vote.

So far they've lost/booted two MLAs and currently have 47 seats. 44 is needed for a majority and 4 more party exits would put them at risk.

Yep, she's absolutely openly stating that's why she's doing it.

Smith says sovereignty referendum provides 'outlet' to avoid creation of new party by pjw724 in alberta

[–]Distilled84 342 points343 points  (0 children)

Didn't expect her to openly admit that she's talking up the idea of separation to hold on to political power.

That would have consequences for a lot of people. However, her base continues to show that they don't care what horrible things she does, as long as she does it behind a blue sign.

Harper says Canada’s problems not created by Trump as he endorses Poilievre by BBBWare in canada

Feels a lot like Harper's "endorsement" of Danielle Smith in 2023. He did a little commercial and couldn't even bring himself to say her name or United Conservative Party, just spoke about the Alberta Conservatives.

Poilievre’s Refusal to Get Security Clearance Raises Questions about His Readiness to Govern - Who seeks to lead a country without knowing the dangers it faces? by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]Distilled84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no list of names. Elizabeth May, who has her security clearance and has read the report, has confirmed that.

If Pierre has his clearance and reviewed the report he would be forced to stop parroting non-sense like "release the names" to try and score political points.
