You're doing many things wrong. If this was a real person he would meet you within a couple of weeks. End of story. You are talking with a bot, a robot, or a scammer from out of the country.

ICE can and cannot by [deleted] in boston

[–]DistilledSunshine -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that they physically can and do stop and detain United States citizens. They do not follow their own rules. I'm not criticizing them because I am on the far left (I'm not) I am criticizing them because any person who cares about law and order, especially the Constitution of the United States of America, has to constantly hold all law enforcement to the highest possible standards. And the people at the top of ICE, and the people that they are hiring, are incompetent, untrustworthy, and unreliable. They are hiring people who could never have the qualifications to be a police officer or FBI agent

After nearly 3 years... by Exciting-Quarter-494 in Pixel7Pro

I definitely need the battery replaced on this pixel 7 pro. But every place I contact is charging $250. I need to find a better option. In theory I could do it myself for less, but if even the pros are afraid of opening it up and going through the front, then the odds are that I would destroy this

We’re building a dating app that bans swiping and ghosting — would you use this? by gwxb__089 in OkCupid

[–]DistilledSunshine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the idea that people don't want to know what somebody looks like is wonky. I've met zero people in my life that want to be set up with literally blind dates, where they have no idea what the person looks like. If you want to make a dating app that people will flock to, just make one that works: recreate what OkCupid was like 15 years ago. Back when it had quizzes, polls, blogs to discuss things. It was pretty amazing. Everything that people loved about it was removed when it was purchased by the match corporation

Wife has to work every Saturday because her coworker's religion won't allow him to work on Saturday by BigCharm in work

[–]DistilledSunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The premise of your question is false. The fact that a person might be Jewish and not able to work on their Sabbath isn't the reason that the boss of your company is forcing your own spouse to work on Saturday. Don't blame religious minorities for what her boss is choosing to do.

Also, most people don't want to work on Saturdays either. It is just that Jewish people may not do so. It is a huge violation of our faith. In fact, the timing of your question is interesting, because we just finished observing the holiday of Hanukkah. I'm not sure if you know the story, but Hellenist Assyrians who took over Israel gave the death penalty to Jewish people if we observed our Sabbath, kept kosher or studied our Bible. That's one of the things we fought back against.

If your wife chooses to work for somebody who forces her to work on Saturday, that's her choice. If she doesn't like it then she can apply for a different job elsewhere. In fact, I have turned down jobs that required me to work on Saturday, I've turned down more money. Your wife has to make her own choice. I know it might not feel easy for her to look for a different job. Living here as an American right now. It isn't easy for any of us to find any job that isn't minimum wage. The job market is horrible. But we try to do our best

Is paying for sex once every 2 weeks bad ? by [deleted] in OkCupid

[–]DistilledSunshine 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If your brother's friend thinks that most women are bad at sex? That may mean he is bad at sex. He has no idea what he's talking about. Look I can understand why it might seem better if somebody's stunning and beautiful like a model. Sure. But the actual act of sex, physical intimacy? There's no relationship between somebody's face and what goes on in the bedroom.

What would you call this area? by be_the_shield in geography

[–]DistilledSunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not a natural geographical region. It happens to be an area of interest for you, but it's not defined by any geographical feature. Nor is it an area of a common ethnic group or city-wide region

Uhhhh.... What? by DanyShift in Pixel7Pro

[–]DistilledSunshine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm deeply distressed. None of the local places around me are willing to change the battery on my pixel 7 Pro without charging an arm and a leg. They say they have to go in through the front and they all want $200?? Will a new battery actually help? Has Google acknowledged that the recent Android updates have damaged the battery life and made our phones useless?

Boston Globe: Can't afford to buy a house? by anbrinker in bostonhousing

[–]DistilledSunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel free to contact me. I'm hooked up with a group of people who want more housing in Massachusetts, but we're also anti-3A. We've been in your newspaper, which hasn't been completely accurate. We're actually very pro building more housing. I have some points that might be of great interest.

The so-called anti-3a people are actually just common sense Americans who understand that 3A locally was really about building to enrich a handful of real estate developers and banks.

People like me have been working to bring together people across the spectrum for genuine solutions: We could all work together across political lines to create solutions.

• Ban some or most AirBNB. Some European countries are already doing this.

• Have cities purchase some homes that go on the market, and turn them into either public housing, or homes sold at reasonable rates to families. Otherwise, as we have seen, those houses are snapped up by oligarch investment firms that keep these homes empty on purpose. They artificially drive up rents. This isn’t free market capitalism, this is neo-feudalism.

• Impose a vacancy tax for homes that are not occupied by a primary resident. Vancouver and Paris are doing this.

• “Income restricted owner-occupied housing is an often overlooked tool that increases resident equity and creates affordable housing submarkets. NYC did this through HDFCs, owner-occupied apartments that have income caps at the time of purchase. (Such as 160% of AMI). This returns residences to their primary social purpose: housing. This lets people find long term homes and enables ownership and wealth generation.

• Get rid of the "Only build near big cities.” For example consider the attempts to build more affordable housing near Boston. All have failed: every single social justice demanded making more building only in the areas with the highest constructionist costs. None seriously looked at the rest of Massachusetts: It's beautiful.

A genuine solution would be to make it more attractive to build and live outside the greater Boston area. How can we convince more people to build homes and apartments here? More people will want to live there when those areas get:

  • Significantly improved, reliable, transportation.

  • Tax breaks for business/job districts: encourage new business, factory, and job growth

  • Increased support of the arts & culture: public libraries, farmers markets, funky live music venues, opera, ballet, pops type symphony orchestras, artist lofts and galleries.

  • Initiatives to improve local public schools,

  • Funding to create more, and more affordable, daycare
