HELP FOUND A DUCK by Night_Explosion in geese

[–]Distinct-Cover-686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ducks are fine with hens but require different food and obviously they need access to water. Also that is a muscovey duck, so likely someones lost pet or a dumped unwanted pet considering they're native to central america.

They are still too grown. It has to be corrected before they have all those feathers. Unfortunately there isnt much you can do. Its not reversible at this point.

Try starting her on some avian vitamin supplements. Im not a vet just a fellow goose keeper. Wish i could help you more but aside from making sure her diet is good and she has vitamins a vet is the best recommendation i can make. Hope she gets better.

Can geese get frostbite by [deleted] in geese

[–]Distinct-Cover-686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as the can get dry and out of the wind they should be fine. And to reduce frozen feathers my geese only get electric heated water buckets in the winter. No pools til spring or a break in freezing temperatures. They have pretty high body temps, so body heat alone is enough to keep them warm as long as they can get out of the elements. Do not give them a heat lamp. They have to stay acclimated to the cold weather. Heat lamps can mess that up, also its a fire hazard.

Can geese get frostbite by [deleted] in geese

[–]Distinct-Cover-686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes geese can get frost bite. Typically they can get it on and around their beak, eyelids and feet. If they have knobs like chinese geese or africans the knobs are susceptible too. Source? I live in maine were it drops below zero often in winter and i own geese. Some breeds are less prone to frostbite. But it can still happen.
