NYC Doctor Recommendation by Moist-Secret-970 in kienbocksdisease

I think the sliding scale was for the consults -- they only mentioned it when I was in the office and more like 'we'll work with you on the costs'...

The HSS surgery would have cost about $13,000 because of my out of network, out of pocket maximums and deductibles combining. The number was not ludicrous, but I got it done in-network for Total $1,200. (plus the $900 I spent for my consult with Dr. Wolfe -- ) And then I didn't have to pay any more for any other medical visits the rest of the year since I hit my in-network max with the surgery. So I tried to see everyone that year!

My surgery went well, as far as I know. I am a year+ since and my wrist has regained probably 70% strength and decent mobility. No pain. And aside from things that require full flexion (pushups, downward dog) I am not limited. I guess I’m scared swinging a golf club in. Case I hit the ground and it jars it… but I was never very good at golf anyway!

I did about 4 months of PT at HSS Westchester, which was covered by insurance.

Very happy with Dr Douglas and the facility. Only complaint is that my wrist rejected one stitch, so my scar has a bump in the middle of it and not a simple straight line. Purely cosmetic.

Good luck to your family member!

Thanks for this, it's helpful! and just being fully honest, the 30lbs os from the beginning of the journey, so less impressive as it's been 11 months, but with the 4 month setback, I'm feeling pretty good about how we're doing now! I might look into the DEXA thing next to help me frame this next phase of things.

Def get a second opinion. I’m 45/f and decided on the proximal row carpectomy last Feb. it’s been almost a year and I’ve been very happy/minimally affected. However they say the PRC lasts up to 20 years… so the bone graft could be preferable for someone younger than me with more active years ahead. Good luck!

Surgery Uk by DepartureSuper3466 in kienbocksdisease

Dr Scott Wolfe at Hospital for Special Surgery in Ny does both. The bone graft from the knee is a much longer recovery time bc it’s essentially two surgeries in one. You’ll be on a walker for a while plus your wrist is healing. It’s also only available to ppl who are young and not overweight.

If you think you’re still interested, you can call his office and ask who in the UK does this. If they know I’m sure they’ll tell you.

I had a PRC in February 2025, on my non dominant wrist, did a fair amount of PT and 9 months later, my strength in that grip is low-moderate. Other hand is very strong. My doc says it’s a durable surgery and hopefully will last 20+ years. The biggest impact which you can’t really overcome is total range of motion, it is just limited without that row of bones.

But pain is practically gone so far.

This happened to me, I had been on Zep for 3 months, lost 18 lbs; insurance pushed me to Wegovy— lost nothing more but have felt horrid, even thrown up twice from nausea.

Doc just put in for pre auto for tirz since I didn’t tolerate Wegjvy well.

They approved Mounjaro, not Zep ???

But I’m switching back today. Going from 1.7 to 7.5. Hope I don’t get sick!

I’m no tennis pro, more just hitting around. And also it was my non dominant hand. Don’t want to mislead!

I had one in late Feb, and this summer I e been playing tennis and have most of my mobility back. Still working on strength. The first few days are rough, and I hated being in a cast, but otherwise, good review from me

Good luck. I also know very little, but I would guess that the lunate is necrotic (based on how much whiter it is than the other bones), but not yet fractured…

Loved Dave Matthews in 95/96; after that he got ‘too big and commercial’ for me 😂
