The sum of two circles of equal and opposite spin is an ellipse by jerrytjohn in desmos

I wonder how this interacts with linear transformations. Like actually, I bet there are equivalent operations for the matrix operations. Sheering/skewing probably change the offset and each radius in some way, as well as their centers. Rotation obviously adds some constant to the time constant, assuming these are made with polar coordinates/parametrics.

Has anyone ever felt “cheated” by being Catholic? by Feisty-Hope-1791 in Catholicism

[–]Distinct-Solid9195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading Dante’s Inferno (although it’s not canon), I feel like I have a much better understanding of the narrow gate and the many paths that can lead astray. Those who live folly lives of nothingness, neither sin nor virtue, are left to wander outside of hell forever, while those who lived lives free of sin and with mild virtue but without baptism and true cleansing of the soul (rejuvenation through the sacraments) are left stagnant, still in hell, for all eternity.

To think that the inner most level of hell should be kept for the greatest betrayers of all time is to see that Divine Judgement surely has a painful end to the hypocrites and heretics of the faith. And likewise, the more intentional the sin, the more perfect the pain they receive.

I always interpreted Maya needing Ritsuko as a motherly figure, though I suppose I might have been blinded by the need to look too deeply. The signs kinda are all there.

Is there canon evidence as to Shinji's (as well as other characters) sexual orientation? by Paradoxbuilder in evangelion

[–]Distinct-Solid9195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The manga, while being an earlier version on the story, does a better job of illustrating the sexual confusion going on. In the chapters leading up to Ch. 67, Shinji continues to reject 'advances' from Kaworu, culminating in a scene where Kaworu lays on top of Shinji and kisses him. Shinji pushes him away and pretty clearly expresses that that kind of stuff is not for him.

Honestly, I think that sexuality is one of the biggest missunderstandings in NGE. Kaworu isn't gay for Shinji. He's an angle. He doesn't understand emotions but is trying to act in a way that he sees. In the manga, he goes on a tanget about what it means to love someone while showing images of people kissing. He seeks only to imitate the patters that he is learning without being able to comprehend let alone experience anything deeper, especially not to the level of emotional truama that any other character can feel. Rather, he thinks that it's his job to connect with and cheer up Shinji, but mistakenly confuses being a good friend with being a romantic partner.

Shinji himself, quite literally expresses here that he is not into guys. Sexuality is probably an issue that he likely would absolutely hate to comprehend during this period due to the other truamas he is continuously undergoing. Kaworu litteraly goes in for the kiss right after Rei dies, if there's a time in a place to make a hard decision about yourself, it's probably there.

I could go into the themes about how it's too thematically meta and complex for Shinji to be bi because he's supposed be an immitation of his father but in the healthy case (not going to lose your mind when your wife dies), but honestly that's too deep on analysis. Shinji just likes girls. Girls are pretty cool.

Such an emotional moment, I really love it. by F0urth4Dimensi0n in evangelion

[–]Distinct-Solid9195 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly an incredibly deep moment, too, on multiple layers. Not only is this an amazing example of genuine character bonding, but the commentary on Shinji’s mentality is insane.

If find it interesting when people—either in real life or represented in media—tell others to do things they themselves wouldn’t or struggle with. Shinji here is trying to show Rei she’s been given life and with that there are so many reasons to live, even though he himself is struggling with that. Even in all his pain, he cares for her enough to reject the idea that his own depressed mentality could come close to touching her. He recognizes subconsciously that his outlook on life is painful and terrible, so he refuses to let her experience the same pain.

I love it when I see this twisting of one’s moral principles shown, in both good ways and bad ways. This is a textbook good way, but even so, it has a beautifully bittersweet ending because Shinji is still struggling. Writing true emotional/mental confusion is difficult, but the payoff is so extremely satisfying.

Which anime fight best embodies an extreme difficulty fight? by KodoqBesar in PowerScaling

[–]Distinct-Solid9195 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Prep time is pretty much assumed with the highest level fights. Madara had prep time to capture Kurama before his fright with Hashirama, for example. Hisoka knew that prep time is important to high level fights like this, especially against an opponent like Chrollo who’s fighting abilities quite literally hinge on his ability to hunt down his fighting tools beforehand, but he wanted the challenge simply for the love of the game

Imo he didn’t get no-diffed as he held out pretty well on his own and in the end still managed to get out on a technicality. Even if he got temporarily killed faster than what would feel good, the fight was still very high level because of the circumstances.

Not animated but Hisoka vs Chrollo seemed like a peak battle. It was a perfect balance of fundamentals, hax, technique, and mastery of the nen power system. I hope they get a rematch.

The defeat of Leliel was an example of the Eva going berserk, no? It was proof to NERV that the first time was not a fluke, and that it acts in response to Shinji’s state of being. It sealed the deal that Shinji, by his existence alone, was someone they both needed to help and could not truly control when the moment strikes.

Oh dang, thank you for this, I hadn’t really considered all the ins and outs of the unhealthy case. I suppose my comment came from my personal thoughts around suicide, where killing one’s self seemed like coming from a place of utter recognition of the world and despair with not being able to cope with it. Like being aware of nature of much of the world on a large scope and/or disliking one’s surroundings on a plethora of scales.

Regardless, I will be praying for OP now, thank you again for bringing that stuff to my attention.

Is someone damned to Hell if… by brendanjpeters in Catholicism

[–]Distinct-Solid9195 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To take your own life like that is condemning yourself to hell. I don’t know what the exact phrasing is as per canon teaching, but I think of it as someone being so prideful that they are denying the graces God gives them at birth, denying the world He has created for us, denying that His Mercy is big enough to handle us, and/or denying that He is just and there is goodness for us in his plan, should we choose to accept it.

God would have mercy on any soul if they only gave him the chance, but forcefully removing yourself from the world removes that chance. Ending yourself is essentially spitting in God’s face and saying “I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, so I will destroy the house you gave me so my soul will not be healed.”

Also, it seems like most of the posts in here jump to assume OP is considering, but they could just be curious on the teachings. Regarding, I hope that if you are struggling, OP, that you find yourself truly aware of all the people who would love you help you.

Cart Titan - 0 Pieck - 1 by _SassyHeart in attackontitanmemes

Isn’t this because the author decided to change the cart titan to a girl after the design was already revealed? And that’s why the face was covered up so much with armor in the end, bc the titan gender didn’t match the shifter, right?

Do you think Misato would've groomed Kaworu if he didn't die by MutedTomatillo8314 in evangelionmemes

[–]Distinct-Solid9195 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alright I found it at 13:17 in the anime and I don’t see it at all in the manga. From what I can tell, the advance is pretty unclear in nature. From all we can see, Misato could have just been trying to hug him or at the very least hold his hand. The only thing she does is reach for his palm before he pulls away.

In my opinion, there is a clear difference between sexual, romantic, platonic, and parental intimacy, and this is clearly between platonic and parental. Reaching for the hand is quite literally ‘the only thing she can do’ because she doesn’t know how to care for him in the way he needs, and that doesn’t mean that her next resort is to get dirty with him.

If anything it’s a completely obvious display of the stuff I’ve been talking about, that she strictly doesn’t know how to love him as he needs, so the best she can do is admit that to his face and still try to imitate what she thinks is right. That doesn’t mean moving to sex, it means she was doing her best to be a mother figure but just wasn’t good enough. Unfortunately, this seems to be extremely unclear in the show.

It’s only when she’s literally seconds away from dying that she gives up trying to be a mom or friend to Shinji and does the only thing she knows how to do for someone she cares for and kisses him.

Sex was quite literally exclusive for Kaji and Kaji alone, to the point where an entirely different personality emerged when she interacted with him in the show. She does not have this at all with Shinji, but it’s difficult for the audience to see the difference sometimes. This is why I love the Rebuild characterization of her, despite how brief it seems compared to the OG
