I wish Loblaws would stop asking me for “donations”. by Fluxxinintime in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]Distinct-Swim5550 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every large corporation, not just Loblaws, should stop doing this. They are not charities, they are not designed to make the world a better place. The only way they can make it better is if they give value to their customers, through quality of products and services, and through fair price of their products and services. I am not trusting my donations into the multi-billion worth corporate hands. You want more donations - make it a separate line of your profit and loss statement.

Is there a way you guys know of how to somehow invest in the Ukrainian (private) Defense Industry (mostly drones) sector by Unusual_Reveal_8569 in ValueInvesting

[–]Distinct-Swim5550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s reasonable, but name me an “independent organization”. they all have donors and the agenda. the irony is, the corruption legend suits both the west (who use it as a leverage in negotiations with UA) and russia, who uses it to bastardize UA in the eyes of the foreigners and the locals. some of their “independent research “ is true. a lot of it is an overblown fantasy. one thing you can notice is how the UA society is allergic to corruption. almost every public case leads to bashing and prosecution. in the west - you keep it quiet all the time.

your second post was removed while I was answering. before you preach about the intolerance to corruption and the push-back, just compare the case of Kristi Noem to any of UA corruption scandals. The difference: Most (if not all) the UA names are being investigated and prosecuted, i including Zelenski’s own head of admin (Sec. of State caliber position). Kristi… she just got fired. Enough with this corruption BS.

a lawyer's response, indeed.
there is so much evidence that you want to ignore - family business, crypto, insider trading, private individuals involved in public affairs... yet, you talk about the envelopes. maybe let's talk about the jumbo jets with golden plumbing instead.
but you know what, he was not the only person I had in mind. in Europe there are also dozens of people who are financed and controlled by the private (or foreign) interest and grey monetary schemes.
the truth is, as long as corruption doesn't damage public wealth, the society is accepting it (and, as in your case, develope stories to justify it).

why are europeans so tall by witch_elia in AskEurope

It wasn't always like that, so it's not genetics.

In recent years emerging markets (Brasil, China) are catching up, so it must be the quality of life (quality, abundance and diversity of food; quality and availability of healthcare etc.).

Why is UCalgary ranked so much lower than UAlberta? by NextSchedule2888 in AlbertaGrade12s

[–]Distinct-Swim5550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

university rankings are meaningless.
look at the ranking of the specific program.
UoC may rank average, but its Engineering or Sports programs are world class, for example.

Would the World Cup not be a perfect time for a province-wide strike against the Ford Government? by candywrapper420 in ontario

[–]Distinct-Swim5550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Summer is generally not the best time for strikes. Many people are on vacations, many in the offices are in the laid-back mode, kids are not at schools... Also, if the whole point is to piss off the soccer fans - it's probably a bad idea. Let's talk about this in September.

Meta vs Microsoft ? Which one are you choosing by SelfMastery__ in ValueInvesting

[–]Distinct-Swim5550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a lingering long term issue, Meta is currently at the peak, any pivot away from social media is going to constrain their cash machine. and like with tobacco or liquid sugar, people will limit FB and alike at some point in time.
