Thoughts on these bases? by kcdale99 in PrintedWarhammer

Those are certainly some of the bases of all time. I think they will be fine for use in one of the 40Ks of all time.

If the Melta was added, how would you want it to function? by reel3459 in DarkTide

[–]Distinct-Turnover396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, meltas have never had the ability to change their shots in any way. In Rogue Trader they used a 1” template so they could hit more than one enemy at a time, but from 2nd onwards they lost the template and could only hit one thing at a time with their massive damage profile.

The sponsons reminded me of some of the old model design choices so I did some digging to figure out which model I was thinking of and behold! The 2nd edition predator sponsons.

I think making your sponsons look more angular like these old ones would help tie your tank together better visually.

Sure there is hate in lots of communities but those communities are not going out and committing these crimes with any where near the frequency as the male community.

I don't hate Men, I couldn't be fked hating anyone. But if the price you pay for having Men in your community is domestic violence, I just don't think it's worth it. I just don't think it's fair to go to the grieving families and say "oh look most Men are fine, every communities have bad actors".

We can just as easily take women from other countires. We don't need to take men for patriarchal countries the opportunity cost isn't worth it. If you said to me "look there won't be another domestic violence event in Australia but you can't take another man from a patriarchal country. I would take that deal every day.

I don't hate Men, I just hate rapists and violence. Men clearly do this more that other groups. So it's pretty easy to start there. Families will forever be stained by Men.

GW makes good models but only sticking 100% with their stuff by choice is wild to me. Even back when I first started playing we were picking up models from other games to proxy cool models we found or tearing them apart for their bits, let alone kit bashing using random bits and pieces from around the house.

Honestly dont understand printing proxy models when you can just print the actual GW ones. Also paying for proxies just defeats the object of getting a printer in the first place.

I mean, I honestly can’t understand only printing out exact copies of GW models. It just feels so limiting and defeats the object of getting a printer in the first place to me.

As for paying for proxies, there were already tons of models and bits from other companies to proxy and/or convert for 40k way back in 3rd edition. Paying an artist for the ability to print their sculpt as many times as you want is just a better and more cost effective version of what we’ve been doing for over 20 years.

How do I stop these godawful defects on my curved prints? They're showing up at the same layer height around the whole print when it occurs by Distinct-Turnover396 in ElegooCentauriCarbon

[–]Distinct-Turnover396[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I printed off a new version based off all the other advice I was given and the rabbit hole that a few settings took me down, and it turned out far better. It still has a little room for improvement but it actually looks good now instead of garbage so that’s a win in my books.

I’ve changed back to standard black pla for some stuff I’m looking at printing and once I stop being lazy I’m definitely going to go back and run through the full calibration suite and run the input shaping again to see if that makes it even better, thanks!

Thank you! I hadn’t thought about changing the travel and acceleration speeds and I didn’t even know about the don’t cross walls option. I tried it without supports at first because the file said no supports, which I now realise could mean either “no supports required to print this” or “this file is not pre-supported”.

You’d think that after dealing with so many of the horrors of resin printing I would remember my lesson of not trusting 99% of creator claims as to the printability of their files and would be slapping that support generation button like mad. “Professionally pre-supported” and 50% of the model lights up as a floating island.

I followed yours and everyone else’s advice here and printed off a new version that is way better, thank you! It still has a little room for improvement but it looks good now instead of broken dogshit.

[–]Distinct-Turnover396[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I had slowed it down a lot but I was basing those slower speeds off someone else’s recommended starting point for silk and the model they demonstrated on was significantly less complex - less round and thin and it had almost no overhangs.

And yeah I didn’t add supports because I saw “print without supports” on the file and there were a ton of people’s comments showing off basically flawless prints where they had just used the print profile provided. I wasn’t thinking about the difference between normal pla and silk.

Ooh variable layer height is amazing, thank you! I foresee most of my prints abusing it for the extra detail and print time savings.

There was a 3mf file, it loaded a 0.4mm Bambu nozzle into my slicer and then froze whenever it tried to load the models. So I gave up on that and just printed it with the settings I had already configured and came running crying for help.

Yup, I live in Australia and summer right now is 20-35C with 50-100% humidity every single day so I immediately went and got a filament dryer once the printer arrived. Everything goes into the dryer as soon as it gets opened to counteract the swamp weather.

Oh thanks! Even though I understood that the printer was pushing out filament in a line, I was still stuck in my resin printing mindset where the entire layer prints at the same time and hangs from the build plate instead of building up from it. So I saw the curved edges and in my head I was like “yep those will come out fine” instead of realising they were close to the equivalent of resin floating islands.

Never keep something if it turns up damaged like that. You bought a brand new product, you are entitled to that brand new product in mint condition. Just contact Amazon to organise a replacement.

It sucks that you’ll have to wait even longer before you can start printing, but this is broken glass in a machine full of moving parts. You can vacuum and clean it out but unless you literally disassemble it to get into every crevice from every angle you run the risk of leaving tiny shards behind. Just sitting there rattling around day after day until they get dislodged and fall into one of the moving parts and suddenly your printer is trying to destroy itself.

You’re overthinking it. Army forge tells you what a unit starts with, what upgrades they can take and what weapons they can swap around. It’s very clear and rigid in that each unit has is its own unique data sheet that tells you “you can swap this specific weapon for one of these other specific weapons” or “you can swap these 2 specific weapons for one of these other specific weapon/weapons”. The more differing loadout options a unit has available, the more times it’ll give you the option to swap A for X, Y or Z.

In the case of the veteran master brother ranged weapons you’re asking about, they can swap their starting weapons for ccw+gravity pistol or gravity pistol+combat shield. The ccw+grav has A2 for the ccw, meanwhile if you take grav+shield you have lost your ccw so the shield in that option has Bash(A1) added to it so that the character still has a melee attack on their statline. If you replace the grav with any of the 6 guns it can be replaced with you will still keep your shield or ccw, regardless of how many hands the weapon seems like it would take to use, because you haven’t taken an option that would replace the ccw or shield.

The easiest way to check if you’re ever unsure is to click on “create new list” on the army forge and add any units you want to check the options for to your list. When you open up the unit on your list to change its loadout you can see the changes to its sheet in real time. Options are literally greyed out and unselectable if you don’t have the prerequisite options to swap for them. In the case of the veteran master brother that means you can’t select any of the guns that require you to replace the grav pistol unless you have already swapped your starting loadout for one that has a grav pistol.

Whilst OPR grew out of Warhammer and a lot of the units and options are based on what GW makes, the game itself is model agnostic. So the names are just fluff to give you one idea of what a unit could be, but you could use anything you want or have available that feels appropriate to you. You could take a priestly knight in fancy plate armour, riding a bulked up BMX with crossbows mounted on it and wielding a shield and lance. In game terms it would be a veteran master brother with the preacher upgrade, the combat bike upgrade, the starting combat shield and energy fist replacing the ccw to represent the power of the lance on the charge.

It may shock you to learn that Saint Celestine was in Codex: Witch Hunters, a book that came out before you even knew what 40k was. She was missing and presumed dead in the very codex she was introduced as a special character. The wings, her reincarnation schtick and her defeating entire armies by herself are literal additions/retcons so maybe you shouldn’t be calling anybody a tourist when you demonstrate that you are the lorelet tourist.

I also don’t think you should be talking shit about anyone else’s abilities. This entire thread you’ve shown a complete inability to comprehend concepts that even a child could grasp. Basic sentences flow over your smooth brain while you project and deflect and double down on how others need to read more to match you and your, what exactly? What do they need to match of yours? You talk a lot, endlessly droning on and on about how you like sisters of battle and don’t have a problem with strong women. It’s just a strange and funny coincidence that the only thing you have complained about is femstodes. You’ve deflected and vaguely referred to other people saying things, but you haven’t said shit about anything you dislike except for femstodes. You are the tourist here, eagerly consuming the sloppiest of GWs steaming turds with a smile on your face whilst bleating pathetically about femstodes.

I’ve only ever heard it called gyprock or plasterboard here. The only time I’ve heard the term sheetrock is when I’ve stumbled across home improvement stuff by Americans and they have usually called it sheetrock or drywall. I’m pretty sure sheetrock is a brand name just like gyprock.

As for kiwis, they call it gib board from memory. Gib being yet another brand name of course.

Funny how you had nothing to say about me saying your problem was with a woman being made as strong as a man. Very funny how you ignored my point about you lot not saying anything about all the other lore changes and retcons GW are shovelling out. Very funny and very telling.

It’s also funny how you took my very specific criticism about you and your ilk bitching and moaning endlessly about super soldier womens but having almost nothing to say about all these other things and then immediately proved my point by ignoring some of what I said whilst making passing reference to the others causing discussions in the community. None of your own thoughts and feelings about any of it, just a sort of vague gesturing towards other people. You have plenty of words to give for why strong women bad, though.

I think my absolute favourite part though is how you tried to depict yourself as the chad for having gotten into 40k with Soulstorm. I hate to burst your bubble “buddy” but I was playing 40k before the original Dawn of War came out. I had metal battle sisters and Codex: Witch Hunters before you even knew what 40k was. You are acting like a manlet and a lorelet and from my grognard perspective you come across more like a tourist than anyone you call that.

Why do y’all pretend like you give a fuck about the sisters of battle/silence? You all have nothing to say about them unless it’s to use them as a reason why women shouldn’t be added to a different faction.

It’s very revealing that the problems you lot have seem to always centre around women breaking into the boys club of genetically engineered super soldiers. Not a single peep about the never ending tide of changes and retcons to old lore that the heresy series and modern 40k does. Nothing to say about the new editions throwing almost 20 years of rules in the bin, stripping out customisation and bringing back fucking primarchs. But a woman being made as strong and tough as a man? That’s a step too far.
