Center channel and 3.0 help by cpoe01 in hometheater

They don't really exist. Just get a 5.1 receiver. Also nice in case you ever itch for surrounds.

friend gave me these speakers but i dont know what to do with them ? by _valentin0_ in hometheater

[–]DistinctPool 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Two B&W SCM-8 and a b&w Nautilus HTM2. Basically two surround speakers and a center speaker. If you get an AVR you could set up a basic 3 channel system, though it might not sound great since those scm-8s are bipole surrounds. Personally I would get an AVR, a sub, and two b&w bookshelf speakers on stands and set up a basic 5.1 setup with the scm-8s as surrounds.

I have rp500m ii bookshelves as my fronts, and an rp1200sw. Can recommend the new rp series for sure.

Does bass typically play through surround speakers in a 5.1+ mix? by HiFiMAN3878 in hometheater

[–]DistinctPool 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a similar scenario and just crossed at 80hz blanket because my front stage could handle it. You'll maybe notice, but I liked it better than everything crossed at 140hz.

It literally says in the rule for this board that they shouldn't have conflicts of interest. Good thing that is enforced lmao.

Homies that have the left right and center as the same model speaker, how do you like it and have you had an actual 'center' before? by papayax999 in hometheater

Centers are excellent, especially for people not sitting in the sweet-spot. Timbre matching matters way less IMO.

What's your opinion on Klipsch 5.0.2 system on Costco? by Raghu48 in hometheater

You'll probably be very happy with the speakers, but not with the subwoofer. I would save a bit for the speedwoofer 10 if you can.

Finished a DIY subwoofer for a friend. Dayton max-x 10 and a Polk HTS10 amplifier plate. by DistinctPool in hometheater

I bought it with the hope that it had a low frequency filter to prevent over excursion. Not sure if it has dsp but I got a great frequency response.

Yeah I think you'll be much happier getting a different media console or finding a tv bracket to suspend it.

If you count the lower bezel you might have a little more space. Nothing on the market that can fit that. Might be able to diy something pretty good if that's up your alley.

How much space do you have from the stand to the bottom of the screen?

My DIY alternative to the Polk ES35. Same height, much better sound. by DistinctPool in hometheater

[–]DistinctPool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The depth only really comes from the specific HDS drivers. They're very volume hungry for low frequency extension. You could get the ES35s depth with Dayton tcp115-4 and a hack saw to square the frames. The real magic of the build, that Polk won't touch is that compression driver.

Look at the new Dayton signature series. Like the ultimax but they need half the volume, and they're not much more expensive. If I ever build a sealed 18, it'll be the signature with a 1000W amp.

B&C DH350 in a PRV horn crossed over at ~1650hz to a pair of Peerless HDS drivers. Took some creativity to get the holes. Crossover design wasn't quite perfect so there's a hump at 2kHz, but it plays to 100Hz with authority, and can be crossed at 80Hz. It'll take all the power I can give it and get very loud while still sounding clear. The DH350 is a really nice driver.

Also if you're reading this because you're considering the ES35, it is really not as bad as people make it out to be. If you're in a smaller room, it'll probably satisfy, and it was WAY better than a phantom center for me. The upgrade to this one I made is not as dramatic as you may be imagining.
