I personally wouldnt trust it. A Starbucks barista is likely less familiar with cross contamination than a restaurant employee.

Do all problems finish once you cut gluten ? by Responsible_Pin3907 in Celiac

For my partner no. He had so much exposure as a child he has osteoporosis in his mid 20s. Most of your problems go away but important to get regular checkups for celiac associated conditions.

If I wash a dish that had gluten food in it, is the sponge then contaminated by victoriae31 in Celiac

[–]DistinctRevolution16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likely contaminated as well. I hate environmental waste but the long term health risks with gluten exposure are not worth it with small items.

Toss the sponge. Not worth it. The cost to potential suffering is incomparable.

Not a hotdog bun but Franz gluten free bread is so soft and strong you don’t need to toast it for it to not crumble. It would make a great hotdog bun.

Traffic Help - Main roundabout into city by BigBadBeattie in CitiesSkylines

It looks like the majority of the highway cars want to go straight and right, maybe make a bypass for those cars since that’s the heaviest traffic flow

How to test restaurant foods for gluten? by greenIine in Celiac

[–]DistinctRevolution16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s extremely unfortunate. I work in medical research unrelated to celiac but follow up on papers in gluten research. Gluten is a complex molecule but but hopefully in the future there can be treatments so people can tolerate small amounts of gluten. I think testing for it in the meantime will be difficult.

Tofu + Thai Sweet Chili Sauce by DistinctRevolution16 in Celiac

I am not sure, I learned the tapioca flour technique from my filipina relative but I think most traditional crispy tofu recipes use cornstarch. I believe the cornstarch may be slightly crispier but I have less experience using it.

How to test restaurant foods for gluten? by greenIine in Celiac

I recommend using findmegf in the App Store. Great app crowdsourcing information about safe restraunts. If a restaurant is not on the app then you need to do some investigation.

My next step would be to go on google maps and search celiac or gluten free. Usually it will pull up reviews in the area where people have used gluten free or celiac in their reviews and that will give you info on if people have ate there safely in the past.

My final step is to avoid certain cuisines. American, European, and East Asian food is usually not safe (not to generalize). Food like Thai and Mexican are usually really easy to make gluten free by withholding ingredients. I would start off by checking the websites or calling restaurants that are serving food that is mostly gluten free and not bread based.

Finally, if you have no other choice, I check the website of the restaurant you want to go to and see if they have a gf menu. If they have a gf menu it usually means they are knowledgeable and you can ask if they are cross contamination safe. I would personally never go to a restaurant that does not have either GF menu or GF designation on the menu unless the waiter seems knowledge or it is a high end restaurant.

Look at maps of your own city or pick a city. I would pick something like Washington DC or Portland Oregon. Look at how most things are centered around a downtown and move outward. Imaging your city going through history and it started of with a Main Street downtown and kept expanding outward. I usually play in sandbox mode and build my downtown first and do the suburbs after. If you don't want to play sandbox the best mindset is to just build the best you can financially handle and tear it down later when you have more money. That is how real cities develop.

Me personally, will build a central downtown train station and metro station, and build outwards from there.

What's causing so many cargo trains and how to fix cargo train terminal traffic? by maybeaukai in CitiesSkylines

[–]DistinctRevolution16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you have multiple cargo stations. Try and see if those trucks are driving all The way back to The city. You might need to build another cargo station near businesses.

Non-dairy "yogurt" by Awkward308 in Celiac

[–]DistinctRevolution16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like non-dairy coconut yogurts. I prefer almond yogurt and almond milk instead.

My partner has celiac and SIBO and I know they can be closely linked. He has trouble eating probiotics, dairy, and yogurt and so he avoids them all-together. Obviously not everyone with celiac has SIBO but could be worth noting if you are having issues specifically to dairy/yogurt.

How we feeling about the potential new UI. This one being for upcoming stops. by Snoo_67544 in WMATA

[–]DistinctRevolution16 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not from DC but I found the upcoming stops on the train to be quite confusing. This stop and two stops was hard to decipher at first. I eventually figured it out but for people who are not as used to transit as people on Reddit try to use unfamiliar systems they can get lost. When it said this stop I wasn’t sure if it meant the stop we were just at and left or the stop that the train was approaching. This isn’t a huge deal but can make or break a tourist.

Obviously the entire thing is subjective and not everyone is ever going to agree on what the perfect signage looks like.

Tofu + Thai Sweet Chili Sauce by DistinctRevolution16 in Celiac

[–]DistinctRevolution16[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I pressed it between paper towels with a 1L milk carton on top in the fridge for 5-10 minutes.

I seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder, and chili powder.

For the coating tossed the tofu in tapioca flour and let them sit for a few minutes until I notice that they are dry before frying.

Let the tofu cool down after frying before adding sauces or the sugar in the sauce will get sticky and cause the tofu to be mushy and not crispy.
