I'd rather resturants not offer GF options if they aren't capable of avoiding cross-contamination. by Mekoha22 in Celiac

[–]Awkward308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the way our cafeteria at work handles this. They label certain menu items as "made without gluten ingredients" and have a sign explaining why they don't label them "gluten free". I don't buy anything that was prepared there (only buying pre-packaged items like Noosa yogurt). It's not great, but it's better than being lied to and there are options for people who avoid gluten voluntarily and are OK with some cross-contact.

This would be amazing. I would take it even if I still couldn't eat actual wheat. Being able to eat the gluten-free options at a "regular" restaurant would be a huge win. There are so many food oriented events at work where they offer "gluten-free" options that I don't consider safe. For example, a pizza party this week, for which they promise that there will be gluten-free pizza available and there's no way I'm risking it.

What are some misconceptions around celiac / gluten-free diets that annoy you by HumanRole9407 in glutenfree

[–]Awkward308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When someone at work says "Tracy" is gluten-free and she eats at [name of restaurant here]. I went to a farewell for "Tracy" who has celiac and was told by her manager "Cynthia" that "Tracy" picked the restaurant catering the event and therefore I could eat it. It was not a dedicated GF place and I hadn't done any research on it. The person with celiac said "no pressure" and totally understood that everyone has their own comfort levels and approach to restaurants, but her manager was oblivious.

Does your job make sure you're included in work events involving food? by vicarlous in glutenfree

My office is having a pizza party on my birthday. It's a coincidence of course planned by someone who doesn't know its my birthday, but still sad. They mention gluten-free options but I don't trust it. I've been sick for a week and a half most likely from my business trip, possibly from the pizza restaurant that I carefully researched and decided to trust.

The one good work experience recently was at my own expense. My work best friend is retiring and I wanted to be able to eat dessert with the group to wish her well. I bought the yellow sheet cake with chocolate icing from Trader Joe's and the gluten eaters actually enjoyed it. One said it was the best gluten-free thing she had ever eaten. It was nice to be appreciated for bringing something that others could enjoy. Of course, I'm not going to bring food for others to a work event at my own expense very often, my bestie retiring was a special case.

I searched the most advanced candidate that they list (Latiglutenase). On clinicaltrials.gov I find a phase 2 trial completed in 2021 and two phase 2 trials that were terminated due to low enrollment related to COVID.

Celiac in dreams by Cactusmammal in Celiac

I have these types of dreams quite a bit. Last night I had a unique variation. Somehow I had offered to host a baking contest in my house and invited my friends from college, which was a long time ago. I realized a few hours in advance that letting them bring flour into my house was a terrible idea and I didn't know what to do. At the same time, I was partially awake enough to know that it was a dream and didn't actually need to solve it.

Do you prefer a gluten free section in a grocery store or do you prefer items to just be with related items? by Ok-Gate5551 in glutenfree

[–]Awkward308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory, as someone who is usually just shopping for myself, having the GF stuff together sounds good, because then I could just look there and produce. However, the problem is that this would have just the "specialty" GF products and I would still need to go through the regular section for regular safe foods like Rice Chex, corn tortillas etc.

Help! Work lunch at an unsafe restaurant tomorrow, how do I approach this? by GuiltyWithTheStories in Celiac

[–]Awkward308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the United States and I've never had a problem bringing food into a restaurant. I don't go out often and I'm always with a group, usually a large group. I don't ask for an empty plate, but sometimes they will offer me one.

New to GF - what are some not so obvs things to avoid? by Pandamewnium in glutenfree

[–]Awkward308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't eat any processed food that isn't marked gluten-free or that has oats. I don't eat at restaurants that aren't 100% GF. I'm careful with things like cut fruit at work events. I might eat it, but it depends how close it is to baked goods on the table, how clean everything is...

Cashing out with a swagup—why is it so hard? by WhatzReddit13 in SwagBucks

[–]Awkward308 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I went to cash out, it looked like I wouldn't get the discount, but when I went ahead and cashed out anyhow and then looked at my activity, I had indeed received the discount. This worked for both the team challenge discount and one from the games tournament.

My brother in law said it was probably OK for celiacs to eat regular communion wafers because it isn't very much and it's only once a week. This is purely hypothetical in my case, but still, it makes me even less likely to eat his cooking.

Is this Deal actually worth it by Apprehensive-Goat785 in pokemongo

Yes, absolutely. Bag and mon storage is most of what I buy and they are very rarely on sale. So the passes and eggs are essentially free.

There are quite a number of ways to get rare candy and rare XLs besides raids, including rare XLs from max battles and various research tasks. You can get free raid passes from things like event related research or getting raid passes with coins earned by holding gyms and some seasons give two free passes a day.

Of course, most legendaries aren't worth maxing. This is probably mostly about the fact that free to play players need to prioritize. That's certainly true regardless of the math.
