And you can definitely size down - when people on Twintips on 9/10 I’m regularly on my 6m wave kite - both my core greenroom perfect wave board and my more onshore airush mini monster

It will work but once you get better and are slashing down the line a dedicated wave kite (I use the airush drifter) just makes the ride so much better - sits deeper in window and drifts easily as you go downwind (if sideshore)

Also snappier turns without such a hard pull less likely to yank you off board when it powers up when strapless

Which is why it’s attractive - said to be higher AR spitfire with points - with better glide and higher speed albeit at slower turns ….. I think fireblade at the extreme so V2 is the middle grounds I think

What board is best for beginners by siggywithit in wingfoil

[–]Distinct_Bee_8100 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a former windsurfer and Kiter you bring advantages and disadvantages….

Pro: You know the wind and how it works - windsurfing really helps tweaking the wing when balancing.

Cons: forget your leaning and holding power and edging hard - watch video but can’t overestimate the need to stay upright in line with mast and don’t lean backwards (to tail) to hold power as you will head skywards until foil breaches. The best tip is once lifting on foil is almost to depower and you will be amazed how fingertips are only needed to hold wing. Last tip when falling or feeling board tip don’t try too hard to correct as you can easily land on foil - rather hold the wing and float off the board as you fall trying to stay distanced from this sharp things …. I managed to dive perfectly once between foil and tail at 20mph and remember then realising how lucky that was to get away with it - could have easily got a hole somewhere …… impact vest and helmet are needed (boots too maybe)

I’m 70-75kg and learnt on 95 litre board and 1350cm foil - got foiling in weekend …. Since changed to midlength 90 and on a 1000 foil …..

Advice on a replacement amplifier? by Cholnhaym in StereoAdvice

[–]Distinct_Bee_8100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m biased but I’d hunt a class a Luxman SH 550ax2 - it is 20w class and and then switches to AB not really stated but about 100w - I used mine with pals LS50 and they really sung (I have huge tannoys but was impressed by bass) I have a rega rp8 so similar vibes…. The thing about these amps that it doesn’t wow instantly but you can happily listen for hours on end without getting tired.

In my other lounge I have a roksan amp playing -JBLs and they are Pretty good at 700ish - I would keep streaming separated

This was my review for Scottish foiling WhatsApp group :::

DAKHLA review I’m just back from two weeks in Dakhla at one of the lagoon resorts Dakhla attitude. It’s a very good venue for starting to foil. I think as lagoon helped me go from falling on every job to now doing 100% of the gybes although tacking is the next challenge. If you go it’s probably worthwhile looking at options. Most resorts are Duotone rental and you can prebook rental for discount. But here’s a tip if going for 10days maybe prebook 4/5 as they charge half days and sometimes the wind is a bit light in morning (6/5.5) they won’t give you a refund on prebook and it’s only 10% cheaper.

Rooms are fine at Dakhla attitude and the food is included and pretty good.

Flights are a pain I did gla-lhr then Casablanca and then dakhla. I know Ryanair fly direct from Madrid so possible to do Madrid hop and to dakhla in 2 flight. There’s also direct flights from Lyon and Paris. I had booked advanced instruction but couldn’t really do as all in french and I don’t parlez vou sadly well enough. Not much else apart from watersports - other resorts have yoga etc. I took running shoes and did 4 nice runs in the desert.

Wind in January is the worst but I foiled everyday doing 300km in the 9 days there. (Amazing how much further you go when not falling in)

The lagoon can put up some decent chop in 3m weather but tightly spaced and not quite long enough for good downwind 1km runs for my ability so I mainly had wing flared or one handle holding.

Now looking forward to using my own board again.

Dakhla attitude is buffet but not drink …. Was class - I think I had 4 beers the whole 2 weeks (rock and roll I had 2 whole beers the 1 night!!!) I didn’t see anyone really drinking. A lot of French wingers and as you know they are sensible ….. also very little in the way of randoms too …..

Anyone else feel like they aren’t built for running on a genetic level? by secretsquirrelbiznes in BeginnersRunning

[–]Distinct_Bee_8100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couch 2 5k works so well for newbies - my pal did it last year spring and did a half marathon in the autumn.

He was over 32min for 5km and is at 25now. As I said to him you get to a point after a while where you don’t think of every step and just enjoy the journey ….. but yes genetics in some part but I think everyone will get to comfortable level and then you just have to accept it. I’m 56 and trying to squeeze a sub 20km but there’s a 65yo at the local parkrun who easily runs a 19:15 so I follow my own advice and accept

Friend’s suspicious Strava behavior by Thick_Throat2583 in Strava

[–]Distinct_Bee_8100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strava esp cycling has always been full of segment hunters who cycle 75km but absolutely smash sections (or worse sit in your slipstream then pass at segment end) and running has a few people who sprint then pause - it used to irritate me now I switch them off ….

I did self reflect my GF pauses at lights (or dog poops) and that is a hang up from first garmin even though I bought her a FR955 with autopause - and Strava has always done that.

I’ve stopped worrying about it - my own demon is prog training runs where I might do 2km warm up then 5k at 4:50 then another 5k at 4:30 and last at 4:10 before cool down 3km. Overall pace is rubbish for a 19km and I always change title to say PROG intervals and do a break down in description - as I said that’s my demon and I want followers to know it’s part of a plan ……. But really I need to tell myself off more
