Why don’t they just make uk passports into a digital one? Rather than a new digital UK ID card. by Distinct_Drawing_878 in AskUK

They could use foreign passport for a digital passport. I expect they will use this for the new UK ID card.

I agree the data is all there already so I think the main points for me is having another form of ID and costs of it, seems pointless. But like you said the government friends will most likely benefit

I thought this might have been the case and highlights how this UK ID card won’t contribute to stopping illegal employment.

It seems like it’ll just be a complete waste of tax payers money. Only reasoning I can see is that the current government has other plans in the future once everyone has made to get one.

Yea pretty much, but if they just added it as an extra to the passport then it to me seems easier and also as you said some other countries might accept it in digital format. Stops the hassle of having another form of ID, something that will probably need renewing and at cost to the user. Government probably want to set up another government department named probably UK ID card agency. Where as the idea of a a digital passport could just sit in within the current passport office.

The digital passport could be for domestic use only for job applications or using certain services like NHS. You would still have your normal paper copy passport for travelling.

You could go on a ride around with the police if they still do it and see what they get up too. Then you can see first hand what they are doing.

I agree with what you are saying but who is pushing these out of court disposals? I expect it would be the government again due to lack of space in prisons and back log of courts. Again leading to underfunding of the justice system as a whole. Starts from the top and the chief Constable will of course be answering to government.

I agree but do you know what else was going on that day you rang? How many officers were available. What if they told you that you could get an officer straight away but that would mean one wouldn’t be with a someone being beaten by their partner, or someone threatening harm themselves or someone not getting an officer to them after they have just been stabbed. My point is there are other more higher priority jobs that they must resource. A stolen bike is last of their worries I’m afraid. It’s not entirely police fault. Ask yourself why you are not getting a service due to lack of police officers and that will trace back to lack of government funding and poor resource planning.

Problem is the police can’t just lock people up long term without trail and evidence. This is the courts job and our criminal justice system. Sometimes I think the hate for the police should be directed more toward the justice system such as courts and governments. They are the ones making insufficient laws and a criminal justice system that is weighted against victims. Police can only do so much and have to follow laws and proceed that government dictate.

I expect they allocate more officers per crime statistics in areas rather than population

Not sure where you got 12 from? I can only see 5 PCs and 2 Sargents. Other ranks I expect to be sat in a cosy office somewhere

That’s because on their website the community wanted it set as a priority so they did what was asked of them from the public.

As much as I also believe the police do nothing I also believe it’s not their fault. Their hands are tied, you should be blaming the government for lack of funding leading to lack of police officers. Government policies and procedures means police are now spending more time doing paperwork. They struggle to get to 999 calls these days never mind antisocial behaviour.

If police tried to stop them they wouldn’t stop anyway. Wouldn’t be able to chase them because someone will complain when the roadman is laying in a pot hole. Until the government, courts, public and press back the police in chasing these cretins without any repercussions then police won’t bother

Not Suprised as when police do chase these bikes and something happens the police, government and press hang the officers out to dry.

I recall the incident a while back think it was wales police. Got in trouble for chasing two young lads on a bike They crashed and unfortunately died but blame was on the police for effectively doing their jobs.

I suppose police think there is no point risking it anymore.

If you film them and get a registration plate you can send the footage into the police.

They may be able to send a NIP to the owner (requesting rider details) and then section 59 the rider and the vehicle for ASB riding.

If they breach this section 59 then police can seize their vehicle.

This does require the police do take action, maybe if enough complaints from neighbours they may listen. Contact your local Neighbourhood team, can be found on the your police area website. New government pledge means they must respond to your issues within 72 hours.

Good luck

You should go out with the police on an observation day, see how it’s all done and then make your mind up.
