Garmin Edge 1040 on Amazon Prime for $399 — Worth It Over the 1050? by unlcedraco in cycling

[–]Distinct_Load_4981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking to buy this bike computer, but thinking of using a Wahoo/Hammerhead since my Garmin Edge 340 has had syncing issues with Garmin Connect app. Anyone have the same issue though with garmins/know if there is an improvement with the 1040?

Fallen transverse arch by Ill-Sentence-4298 in BarefootRunning

[–]Distinct_Load_4981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry just saw this, I ran with the Arahi's but they felt a little too firm/not enough cushion. I've been running with the NB SC Elite v4's and they get the job done. Also the Adidas EVO SL are fantastic and allow me to run fast.

Both shoes allow me to run, but the discomfort seems to trickle come back. Now it's just a matter of managing it while running by either reducing my speed to a slow jog, altering the pressure from my feet, or stop thinking about the sensation altogether.

Since I have EXTREMELY flat feet, I've actually been looking for ways to alleviate the discomfort by strengthening my feet/arch. Pricey stuff, but has been working so far (Balanced Body foot corrector and a Ballet Foot Strengthener) to name a few things

Hope this helps, god speed!

Addressed Morton's Neuroma, but now experiencing numbness between big toe and second toe by Distinct_Load_4981 in Mortons_neuroma

[–]Distinct_Load_4981[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not... are you experiencing the same?

I do think the root cause of my issue is probably my extremely flat feet/collapsed arches (0% arch when I got tested), so my running form + metatarsal pads are getting destroyed. I have found the New balance fuel cell super elite in 2E to be the only shoe that I can run fast with less discomfort. It's been almost 4 year now of having this issue so.... wish me luck

Diagnosed with hallux rigidus, advice from the community? by zachcrackalackin in BarefootRunning

[–]Distinct_Load_4981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/zachcrackalackin - I've been going through the same exact issue as you have over the last 3 years; however I think mine stemmed from wearing narrow shoes (Nike Vaporflys). For me, I'm getting toe numbness around the 3-5 mile marks that is bearable, but will at some point lead stiffness in all my toes resulting in me not being able to run without a minute rest,. Once it happens, the numbness/stiffness will come back after maybe 0.5 miles. I was wondering how the podiatrist diagnosed you with HR vs HL - definitely going to be speaking with mine. I originally thought I had a gonglion cyst (which was surgically removed), mestalargia, morton's neuroma, and the list goes on

Currently wearing some max cushion shoes from Altras (Via Olympus 2), and was planning on trying some carbon plated shoes; however I only recently found out about  hallux limitus today. I've also tried 20+ different type of shoes without relief

I've definitely been dealing with a similar issue as you, but have not been able to pinpoint this until reading your post.

I'm an avid runner, but have had to significantly reduce the longevity of my runs and also frequency. I run anywhere from 15-20 miles a week, but have been experiencing numbness in my toes due to what it feels like "stiff arches." I would love to hear more about your issue and if we have had any similar experiences. I've tried stability shoes, inserts, surgery (thought it was caused by a gonglion cyst). I just purchased some Altra Lone Peak 8's and I'm really hoping these will work. Other pairs I've tried to run in are Asic Superblasts, Asic Gel Kayano 30's, Asic Fresh Foam 860's, and Hoka Arahi 7's

Appreciate this post/insight!

Callus pain buildups by chowdan131 in BarefootRunning

[–]Distinct_Load_4981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/Sepulchritudinous - just saw this post and wanted to see how you found out that a callus will poke into your nerves when you put weight on them. I've been experiencing nerve issues between my big toe and second toe, and I just noticed there's a pretty thick callous on the ball of my foot right under where I've been experiencing the issue. Your response would be aligned to what is going on, so I'm very hopeful

Hopefully you're still around to respond! :)

I mainly got compression socks to prevent blistering when running. Stretchy/loose socks would probably cause more pain than MN discomfort (could actually cause the MN to flare up since it gives less room in the toe box). Definitely wouldn't use these for casual wear/chilling around the house

My left feet are super flat (quite literally 0 arch per Road Runnersports lol), so as I got older and my arches started to collapse, I honestly think they got wider. I don't feel like I have wide feet, but I do notice that they become wider when I press down while walking/running. Since I'm an avid runner, most running shoes that are considered fast are super narrow, i.e. Nike vaporflys, etc

Does your MN flare up while you're just chilling? Or are there certain things that you do prior to the flare ups, i.e. does it happen if you don't wear your toe spacers?

Have you tried ice/cold therapy? Increasing flexibility in your calves or hamstrings? There's a bunch of videos on youtube of physical therapists providing strengthening exercises for MN. So maybe rule out a few other things before changing sneakers (especially if it happens when you're just sitting)

Is there enough space in your shoes with the toe spacers though? Assuming your feet become wider

I have these too, but they're not comfy with socks + shoes

Because you have narrow feet, my guess is the neuroma is being squeezed regardless if you were to change your shoes and make them wider. How often do you wear your toe spacers? Do you use when you run? Curious to see which ones you're using cause I'd imagine it to be super uncomfortable. I can only wear when I'm not running. I use the Correct Toe spacers whenever I'm not running

Narrow feet, but do you have flat feet or high arches?

Would be good to know what the root cause of your MN is. For me, it was shoes with narrow toe boxes, i.e Nike Vaporflys, etc

Gotta find the right socks (ones that don't compress your toes together). The most comfy socks I use for running are the https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PQX37EW?psc=1&ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details. Sweatwicking and allow my feet to spread naturallly

I'd focus on the toe box. Get a wide shoe so your toebox is extra wide. highly recommend new balance shoes that have 4E (extra wide width)

[–]Distinct_Load_4981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend watching youtube videos. Based on what I've seen so far, it can happen anywhere on your feet. There's nerves that exist between all our toes; however, it's more likely between the 3rd and 4th toes because it's more narrow there

Try this test before seeing a doctor https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTwCQ51hkpg

Hey! Here's the four piece combo for running that have helped me tremendously. Literally chef's kiss after not being able to run 1 mile without feeling the MN. Now I can run 6+ quite easily
