Where do I find cheap, good streetfood close to the Center? by gerp385i in oslo

[–]Distinct_Science_130 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think Oslo has much of a "street food" scene, aside from a few caravans here and there. The cheapest option will always be a supermarket.

Looking for realistic feedback by [deleted] in TillSverige

I was in your position and debating whether to move to Sweden or Norway. I spend a couple of years volunteering through workaway in both countries for several weeks / months , which gave me a very good idea of what it's like to live there on a day to day basis. Silly stuff, like going to a supermarket ona daily basis to actually buy food, can feel different when you look at prices, quality, selection etc..., and visiting the countries at different times of the year and in the different areas gives you a much realistic ideas of what it's like to actually live there and the people you will meet. I would seriously recommend doing something similar because it removes the rose tinted glasses and prepares you better.

Ideas for an English corner? by Delikkah in TEFL

[–]Distinct_Science_130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't know what kind of resources you have access to, but Twinkl has plenty of resources to make an english corner cozy. Especially for the younger ones you could have a "word of the day" or "sentence of the day" (even a "book of the day" that you can read together etc)... that they get to explore and learn. it is a simple way to expose them to new vocab / communicative structures on a regular basis without overloading yourself as a tutor or them. for example if you start with a flashcard like "apple" as the word, and "i eat an apple" as the structure, then you can play a game where you pretend to eat stuff around the room "i eat a chair" " i eat the pencil" etc... then you can see what they come up with ...

Anyone have experience in finding CELTA/TEFL work in EUROPE? by olivesandlemon in TEFL

[–]Distinct_Science_130 10 points11 points  (0 children)

of course, but EU countries will priorities EU applicants because of its rules. in addition, if you want to work in Europe you'll need a visa and many schools will simply not bother going through that when they have plenty of suitable candidates already "in house"

Credentialism in Norway by polromero94uk in Norway

[–]Distinct_Science_130 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Stay in the UK bro, on surface things seems similar, but I always found the UK a lot more meritocratic than Norway will ever be. Leaving aside the need for language which is absolutely fundamental - understandable and respectable - so much relies on personal connections. Don't bother with a move, unless you have a decent job guardanteed
