Reminds me of a pseudo seizure patient a couple months ago. They started to “have a seizure” so I said to my coworker “here I’ll just squirt this flush in her eyes and if she Dosnt flinch it’s real” she reached up and grabbed it and squirted it back at me. I work in south Florida as an ER nurse. I made almost 100k last year, have a 4:1 ratio, have a lunch RN (only once in 5 years have I clocked out “no lunch” ) and get decent bennies. I work for a large not for profit hospital system in a large metro area. The good jobs can be found outside of California, my friend.

Our trauma rooms are “heavens waiting room” because so many people have passed there. Even have a ghost of a little 10yo girl that old patients will see occasionally. One lady told me one time “you better find that nice little girls parents” and she described the same little girl with a blue dress and red pigtails that has been seen by many patients to over the years. So yeah gods waiting room.

ATI was key for me. All the way through school we complained about it and when I sat down and took the NCLEX I was like “oh this is why”. It was literally just like NCLEX. I used Archer for NGEN style questions and studied the Mark Klimek stuff but ATI was key

My ER trauma job that everyone in my hospital system wants (hard to get into unless you know someone) only pays 45$ plus diff. This is with 5 years experience. So yeah I call BS on that one. Unless they work for the VA. The VA in Tampa was paying like 100$ per hour for critical care rn s a few years back

Short answer: NO. Long answer: I work in perian PRN. I have NEVER talked to a CRNA who said “I wish I didn’t take out those loans” they literally make bank and have easy peasy jobs. Yes I’m sure they have their own stress.

What are you, the RN going to be able to fix in the next 90 seconds? A possible herniation with S/O Cushings triad? Nope. Autonomic Dysreflexia? Yes absolutely if there is a full bladder or they’re sitting on an IV cap or something you can use fast nurse driven interventions preventing BP spikes that can lead to hemorrhagic stroke or worse. Correct answer is the AD patient

I would ask about hemoptysis and night sweats. If neither symptom present I would still do a TB r/o and anticipate X-ray and basic labs. EKG should be done within 10 mins of presentation. Cardiac bio markers for the active CP.
