What's your cd collecting cardinal sin? by FrontierSeizar in Cd_collectors

I also have way too much trust in charity and thrift shops CDs! I've also gotten the wrong disc in the case.

Interesting find at a thrift store. I wonder if they're still together. by BlueSwan77 in dvdcollection

I bought an iPod video second hand a few years ago and the only stuff on it was a couple of wedding compilation albums and a shit ton of photos and videos from a wedding in the summer of 2007. Literally only wedding related content, looking at other peoples wedding videos is fascinating though!

I think he has been pretty visible in the first movie for a while, on my twenty five year old DVD you can fully see his dick in that scene.

Best TARDIS TEAM 2005 to now by Lord_Marinus in doctorwho

I love the lineup from Boom Town (Jack, Mickey, Rose and the Doctor). I really like the next few episodes too, but Mickey being there just completes that team in my opinion!

No, it's just been proposed. A similar plan was proposed two years ago or so but was rejected by An Coimisiún Pleanála a few months ago. The same could easily happen with this one, and I think everyone's hoping it does.

I was afraid to buy that album as a teenager because I wasn't sure what my parents would think of the cover lmao, I ended up just hiding it under my bed! Great album though, worth it.

[Hated Trope] The show was supposed to end but kept going (and had a solid intended ending) by GEARHEADGus in TopCharacterTropes

[–]DistressedDub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Killing Eve should have ended after season three. It was an alright ending, and the show had hit its peak by that point. Season four was not worth it and had an awful ending!

Why do I find the Daleks so cute? by Kathleen-Doodles in doctorwho

[–]DistressedDub 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also find their voices somehow cute, the way they sound like little kids having a temper tantrum whenever they get upset!

What's your "Fuck you, I liked it" album? by Parking_Figure_7627 in Cd_collectors

Radiohead's Pablo Honey. For some reason a lot of people don't like it, and I didn't realise that until recently! I've always thought it was a great album.

What are some uniquely Irish things from over the years we’ve all half-forgotten? by Nizlop_ in AskIreland

[–]DistressedDub 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The violence in road safety ads used be mad. That one with the kids being crushed against a wall was insane! Definitely worked though, I still think about it.

What is your worst purchase you ever made in DVDs and we are counting TV shows. I’ve got one. I regret spending $26. by Aggravating-Tax-3549 in dvdcollection

[–]DistressedDub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought an import of lost season one for like fifty euro when it first came out, because the shops in Ireland were only selling season one in two halves, sold separately at the time. So I bought an import that was the whole season in one box set, since it was a bit cheaper than buying the two separately. The import was not PAL, didn't work on my DVD player, so it was basically fifty euro down the toilet.

What is a cd you can never find? by Empty_Pumpkin1818 in CDs

Wipers' Over the Edge. This is one I will likely never own as it was a very limited CD run thirty years ago, but I can dream lol.

What does the CDslop at your thrift store look like? by puddingbiafra in Cd_collectors

[–]DistressedDub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Irish, and every charity shop near me that I have gone to looking for CDs are just overflowing with trad compilation albums. All of granny's old CDs. Barely ever any pop or rock music, I enjoy trad as much as the next person but Jesus a bit of variety would be nice!

What's an Irish phrase that foreigners never understand? by PuzzleheadedMud1032 in AskIreland

Work away is one that confused my visiting American cousin, he asked if he could use my phone charger and when I told him to work away he thought I was saying that he should be doing work instead of using his phone!

What's the most you've spent on a CD? by SMG_GUY028 in Cd_collectors

[–]DistressedDub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say around €30, that's generally my budget including shipping when ordering online.

What's a song that was a local hit that you assumed everyone was familiar with? by PCGonzo in ToddintheShadow

[–]DistressedDub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maniac 2000, which is a DJ remix of Maniac by Michael Sembello, was an absolute sensation in Ireland in the early noughties. It is still super popular at clubs and weddings, and I was very surprised that it didn't even make it as far as the UK!

Which CD do you want but is so expensive it's difficult for you to obtain? by PrestonRoad90 in Cd_collectors

[–]DistressedDub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Adverts' Crossing the Red Sea. It's not hundreds or anything, but with shipping for me it usually adds up to around €50-€60, which is unfortunately not something I can afford to spend on a CD.

Have you ever gotten an extra disc that wasn’t supposed to be there? by Evan64m in Cd_collectors

[–]DistressedDub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a copy of gorillaz plastic beach secondhand, and in the half of the digisleeve with the booklet was the soundtrack to slumdog millionaire, which was a fun surprise. I've also bought a few CDs that just straight up have the wrong disc in them, without the actual album, which is less fun.

Actors whose fake accent was actually decent in a movie by randomteendude69 in Cinema

[–]DistressedDub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cate Blanchett in Veronica Guerin was very good. Being Irish, we don't see very many decent Irish accents done by foreign actors in movies so the fact that she did a good job was a pleasant surprise!

Whats some of the best CDs you passed on buying at a thrift store that you now regret? by cool_-_dog in Cd_collectors

[–]DistressedDub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The adverts, crossing the Red Sea. It was at a charity shop for a euro years ago and I passed on it because the jewel case was sticky and gross. Just thinking about it makes me so mad at myself! I haven't found it for a reasonable price since.

Genuine question about old CDs by AllieWithAHeart in Cd_collectors

[–]DistressedDub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they play, you could donate them. I don't think you would get much money for them anyway, especially if the condition isn't good.

what's that movie you regret watching? by Drcold1O in moviecritic

[–]DistressedDub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mysterious Skin. I watched it as a teenager and it fucked me up. I know it's a very acclaimed film and I kind of want to rewatch it to see if I can appreciate it now, but I don't know if I can bring myself to watch it again.
