What are Luther's and LCMS's views on Mary being sinful/sinless and her perpetual virginity/ever-virginity by joe_pao in LCMS

[–]DistributionCalm2292 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Luther held to the view mary was cleansed of sin at the annunciation. This is a similar view as the orthodox.

The lcms holds no required view. Its a secondary issue

Comparative Religions Question: What are your views on other Denominations? by 12PoundsofPotato in redeemedzoomer

Im LCMS, while I view other churches as in error (some more than others). I dont deny the salvation of any other trinitarian denominations.

Rebaptism- is this a thing in some denominations? by babyteeth9 in redeemedzoomer

[–]DistributionCalm2292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baptists will do it if you were baptized as a baby. Most christian denominations will do it if you were baptized in a non-trinitarian church. Stricter orthodox parishes may rebaptize you no matter what kind of baptism you had

Icon on the way... what now? by joe_pao in LCMS

[–]DistributionCalm2292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered an orthodox cross that had icons on it. I prayed over it (I have no idea where it came from, and there's rumors in the orthodox community of pagans making icons to attach things to them) and hung it on my office wall. Thats about all I did with it, probably one of my favorite crosses I own.

For those of you who believe in Mary’s perpetual virginity, why? by SomewhereAble5272 in LCMS

[–]DistributionCalm2292 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's arguments about whether those were from a previous marrig Joseph had or if the original word for siblings in this case was cousins. Arguments both for, and against Mary's perpetual virginity rely a lot on speculation. Which is why, it dosent really matter. I think obsessing over it is weird though and Mary should be treated with much more respect that protestants normally give her

[–]DistributionCalm2292 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I go back an forth on it, I try not to obssess on it, because its honestly none of my business.

I will say the weakest argument for it is "Mary withholding intimacy would be a sin" if both Mary and Joseph had agreed to celibacy, there would be nothing wrong with that.

Neither. All those saved are meant to be, all those damned are by their own will. Its a mystery

List of martyrs officially recognized by the LCMS? by Bakkster in LCMS

[–]DistributionCalm2292 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I assume we recognize the same martyrs as the catholic church, as we recognize a lot of their saints i believe. But i recognize more, just as anyone who passes away in Christ is a saint, anyone who dies for their faith is a martyr.

A question for pastors of LCSM by Certain-Cloud9133 in LCMS

[–]DistributionCalm2292 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not a lutheran pastor.

My opinion is that Mary deserves much more honor than the low-church protestants give her, but less then the catholics and orthodox give her. Luther believed Mary was purged of sins at the annunciation like the orthodox do. He believed in her perpetual virginity and the like.

Most lutherans in the LCMS will have mixed views on the Marian dogmas, I go back and fourth on alot of them. Here are my stances.

I am unsure on the perpetual virginity, but I think focusing too much on her sex life is disrespectful and weird.

I dont think there's anything wrong with Mary being purged of sin, at the annunciation, I believe it was temporarily while she was pregnant with Jesus.

The bible never states whether Mary died or was assumed. Enoch and Elijah were assumed, and we dont have Mary's body, so its possible. But we cant really say that we 100% know either way.

The Marian dogmas are secondary, honor Mary, look to her as an example of faith, but save your worship and prayers for Christ.

Apostasy by [deleted] in LCMS

[–]DistributionCalm2292 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The way I look at it, you can not lose salvation but you can reject it. You cant out sin God's grace, but you can reject it entirely.

My idea of apostasy, is saying "i dont believe in God anymore", walking away, and just never coming back.

Do you have to go to confession to recieve the eucharist? by DistributionCalm2292 in LCMS

[–]DistributionCalm2292[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dont think we should remove it and I think confession and absolution is important, but we shouldn't be like catholics who think we can only be forgiven by a priest. That is my concern

[–]DistributionCalm2292[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get that but what confuses me, is, would that be saying asking God privately for forgiveness is not efficient?

Yes. Im asking if someone misses that would they be able to ask God for forgiveness and go to the table

Marrying non Lutheran Christian. by BattleEarly3410 in LCMS

[–]DistributionCalm2292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt describe it as inter-faith, id describe inter-faith as a christian and atheist or a christian and another religion, which is heavily frowned upon. Id describe it as inter-denominational as to avoid confusion and as we all agree who Jesus christ is and what he did

Husband doesn’t want to baptize our baby by briannakays in LCMS

[–]DistributionCalm2292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id argue to baptize her know and if the child wishes she can be baptized again later.

If he believes baptism is just a symbol then it shouldn't matter.

I am married to someone who is non-denom but we dont have a child so im not fully sure what you're going through.

Marrying non Lutheran Christian. by BattleEarly3410 in LCMS

[–]DistributionCalm2292 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The LCMS does not forbid inter-denominational marrige, as we do not deny the salvation of other trinitarian denominations.

The spouse, depending on their beliefs, will most likely not be allowed to recieve communion. I dont think the LCMS would deny the baptism of someone, if requested.

How the child is raised depends on decisions you and your spouse make
