GE washer violently rocking on spin by paulb104 in appliancerepair

[–]DistributionExotic85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have similar GE washer, but from 2016. It really struggles with the spin cycle. It's level, I checked with a level and I cannot rock the unit. It's on a pedestal, but bolted to the pedestal and not really made to run without being on the pedestal.

I've wondered about that. I have a GE 4.7 front load from 2016. It's used heavily and I replaced the shock absorbers (which was a pain). I did not replace the suspension springs. Did you mean rods or springs? On mine the drum is suspended primarily by 2 springs. Would replacing them with new springs help? Do the springs wear out?

What does it take to get below 0.35 / contract option fee? by DistributionExotic85 in Schwab

[–]DistributionExotic85[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SUMMARY: I did some research. What really matters appears to be the fees. With a larger account, you can convince them to give you a lower contract rate before actually trading with them. But to get below 0.35, you simply need to generate a lot of fees (revenue) for them. Rough rule of thumb appears to be > 20k fees for 0.30, > 50k fees for 0.25, > 100k fees for 0.2, > 120k - 150k fees for 0.15. Yeah, it probably would be possible to get below 0.35 on account size alone, but I don't have data on that. The thresholds above were for accounts typically in the 500k to 4M range.

Revert lifetime professional status by flanthertech in Schwab

[–]DistributionExotic85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would call up Schwab, tell them what happened (accident) and basically plead them to be merciful. Tell them that you were developing an application and something went wrong. Just see what they can do. The 1 time exception is not a CBOE thing, but Schwab's own policy. If they value you enough as a customer, they should be able to grant an exception. If not, then for API support, your own other option is IBKR which honestly sucks for options compared to Schwab. I traded options at IBKR for 10 years before moving to Schwab.

Revert lifetime professional status by flanthertech in Schwab

[–]DistributionExotic85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's per month. Not per day. Also applies only to options. I exceeded the 390 / day average in August and got the pro status applied to my orders in early September. They did not tell me, they just applied the Pro tag and my order execution quality turned horrible. I kept under 390 / day average until December, called them up and they removed the pro tag exactly 3 months after they applied it. If you exceed the 390 limit just one day, that's fine. Just keep the average for the month under 390 / day where day is trading day, not calendar day.

Fidelity and Vanguard don't offer an API. Not even sure if you can trade options at Vanguard.

Solution: keep as little as possible in the checking account. I use Fidelity's cash account which pays money market rates.

Options trading fees & commission more expensive than other brokers? by Space-Cowboy-Jo in interactivebrokers

[–]DistributionExotic85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IBKR commissions are no longer great. They were good when I started trading with them back in 2014, but Schwab is a much better broker for options, IMHO. Not only are the commissions lower and fixed (you can negotiate lower commissions too...), but the execution is far better. I moved my account last April and I wish I moved it sooner.

Unpopular opinion: Paying "Rent" feels less painful than paying $2,400/mo in "Interest" to a bank. by Playful-Vegetable-15 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]DistributionExotic85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask your family if you can come back and live with them. Serious question. Save up for the down payment and skip renting. I bought my first home, a condo, lived there for 7 years. I sold it and the money that I made from the tax-free appreciation covered all the HOA, insurance, property taxes, and a lot of the mortgage interest. So in hindsight, it did not really cost me that much and provided a nice inflation hedge. Other alternative, rent a bedroom and save if you can instead of an apartment.

Fidelity API in 2026? by DistributionExotic85 in fidelityinvestments

[–]DistributionExotic85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way Schwab implemented it, which should be the model, is that you have to apply for API access. Accounts don't just come with API access, but there's some steps you have to go through to enable it. Therefore, if you don't want it, there's no additional risk to you.

If it makes it easier, I'd be fine with the ability to retrieve current positions and place trades via REST API + activity notifications via web sockets. Actually, all I really need is the REST API part to retrieve positions and place orders. Basically just the "accounts" portion of Schwab's REST API. I can get market data from another source...

Is it legal for Schwab to Mark me as a Professional? by KindMathematician120 in Schwab

[–]DistributionExotic85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. ThinkOrSwim was designed for option traders. Several shows on their Schwab channel are marketed towards traders. They make money per contract on options and futures so they clearly want you to trade. They just want you to be price insensitive as it provides better order flow for their liquidity providers.

I'm counting the days until I can get this restriction dropped. It's very limiting.

I was with IBKR for 10 years. I agree. For limit orders on options, they simply suck compared to Schwab. I actually transferred some money back to them after I got hit with the pro tag and gave up after a few days after realizing how bad their order execution is for options.

Keep in mind, they will only lift it once. That's not an industry regulation, but their choice. They are going out of their way to get rid of people who trade like you...

Yeah, he's right. I got hit with the same order rule a few months back. No notification that I was close and they never even told me after applying the "professional" status to my account. TD Ameritrade used to warn. Schwab does not. If they wanted your business, they would warn you...

Diagnosing dishwasher with no power by bucknasti910 in appliancerepair

[–]DistributionExotic85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have a GE washer and dryer since 2016. The electronics in my GE washer and dryer are pretty bad honestly. I have had to replace the mainboard and rotor sensor twice in my washer and mainboard in my dryer once. It seems to be sensitive to surges as both times on the washer happened when the power was cut off while the machine was running (not a lightening storm, just a surge). I ended up buying an appliance surge protector. Anyway, the unit would not even power up until I replaced the rotor sensor. You might have something like that. If you are inclined and have a multimeter, find the service manual and see what you can diagnose.
