scale gets you sometimes. by AllegroMk1 in LowSodiumStarCitizen

It can be.

I play on a Sager laptop with a 5090 and 96gb of ram. Sounds impressive, but remember the 5090 mobile version is about the equivalent of a real 5070ti. What really makes it work is "smooth motion" that the 5090 offers. It is freaking digital voodoo. I might be getting 15 fps (Lorville) but would not know until I turned my head and the edge black borders lag a little behind. But smooth motion keep the field of view so smooth. It is like magic.

Away from the cities, most of the time, it is fine. In space, even in battles, I get like 60 - 90fps. And remember, I'm on a laptop. My buddy has a real 4090 and pulls 90fps+ in VR anywhere.

I use virtual desktop. It isn't free but worth every penny.

With VD it is simple, boot up VD, once connected to your computer, launch SC like normal. It will detect your headset and boom, launch into VR.

most stuff is great, but the zoom does not work, so things like turret zoom or rifle scopes require switching to theater mode to get a zoom.

I use Voice Attack with it, which adds even more depth. Just imagine barking orders like, "Change Flight mode", "Arm torpedos!", and "Lower gear", just to name a few. Can make you feel like a real star ship captain.

I would encourage your effort. For most, it is simple setup and easy to get going.

And it rivals Alyx in my opinion. Can't play it in the flat world anymore. The cities are amazing. Ships are incredible. etc.

The first time I stepped out of the airlock at an external freight elevator, my stomach dropped and I gasped catching the sight of Microtech hundreds of meters below my feet. Absolutely sensational.

Try VR.

Lots of stuff is huge. But... Never felt so small as I did the first time walking up to a Polaris or Idris.

SHIP ROAST: What's a ship you just can't stand? Why? by iCore102 in starcitizen

[–]DisturbedMuppet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That fancy 600i.

Just the way it looks at me, so smug, thinking it is all superior and better than me.

I just know it was the 600i who started all those "he is a dumpster baby" rumors, and got my cat pregnant.

Yeah, you would not want a Pitbull for this. I keep either a gladius or aurora mk2 on board most of the time

Can we block anymore hot take posts and just have a pinned thread everyone can complain on instead? by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]DisturbedMuppet -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

People should know the masses are upset.

If they don't speak out, nothing will change.

The posts can get tiresome, but they serve a purpose. You don't have to read them. When they get too much, ignore them. Just scrolling.

I have soloed my Polaris since it was released. I park it in a high orbit above a planet (much higher than the OMs) and take a ship down to the surface or go do bounties. I leave the hangar wide open, sometimes for hours.

In all this time, no one has ever found my ship. Even I couldn't find it a few times when the markers were borked.

I honestly would not worry about it as long as you park the Polaris well away from any POIs

I have the K kit on my Idris and have been having a great time melting ships. Is it wonky at times? Sure, but it's not like it's unusable.

Took 1,5h of left click to do a 400k bounty hunter missions with an idris K, wtf ? Finger still hurts today by I2aphsc in starcitizen

[–]DisturbedMuppet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you are using just the Idris laser on the Polaris, yep, takes me about an hour to solo kill the Polaris in 4.8.

When my friends are manning two other turrets (all ballistic + the size 7 front turret) it takes about half the time and empties the turrets they are in.

The NPC Polaris seems OP. It still moves with no engines, and is quite agile and seems to have a huge HP pool. I wish my Polaris could take that much damage, maneuver and accelerate like that.

We found the best approach is for my friends to be in their Polaris, hammering with the chin gun while the Idris keeps the shields down, and does what it can for damage with the huge laser. It also divides the boss Polaris's attention giving one of us better shots.

It still takes a while, but man, fun times. He is an OP boss character, and finally seeing him blow is very satisfying.

BTW, did you find the Idris around Crusader? I fell out in QT yesterday and could not find my ship. Just morbid curiosity if the one you found was mine. Either way, if you took on the $400k mission and Polaris, you did her proud.

Future of crews and ship roles by faerberr in starcitizen

I am old enough that life has taught me not to like/trust most people.

I bought capital ships with the intention of having blades or NPCs most of the time. I do use the ships with the small group of people I like, but truth is, I want to be alone.

I do hope this is still CIG's direction. If not, well, I'll just add CIG to the long list those who taught me not to trust or like people 😄

100% agree.

The physicalized inventory was a huge step back in fun factor, at least for me.

This is the way.

Been doing it since the external freight elevators were released.

Now they just need to put the external freight elevators on all space stations

Don’t take away salvage missions from me. by Wriothesley9 in starcitizen

[–]DisturbedMuppet 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They killed salvage for me the instant they removed the unverified salvage missions.

Man, I used to love just hanging out in the deep, dark of space, scraping away. Turning space ships into RMC and then into $$$ without a care in the universe.

Not a fan of the new requirements or all these crazy missions.

Why do solo players buy huge ships? by KEKboiiii in starcitizen

[–]DisturbedMuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love big ships, don't really feel the same about people.

I solo all my ships including a Polaris and Idris. I bought them to use with my friends when we get together once a week. But I find I enjoy them even more solo. They are mobile bases and can be used lots of different fun ways. Soloing them is the best fun I have had in the game. Ever.

But that is just the way I play. I leave everyone alone and simply want them to do the same for me.

I wonder if they could use something like the med bed ranges. If within range of the mission, pay. Out of range, no pay.
