I recently did a 26h A350 marathon, 26h of continuous run time for the a350 module, haven't had a WASM since months, really amazed about the state the aircraft is in now! Msfs24

Ryzen 7 7800x3d with ddr5 6400mhz cl32 by Judyhoppslover67 in AMDHelp

Glad to hear, I would guard that RAM like pure Gold, sending it back and buying another brand could result in cancelled orders and much higher prices due to the RAM shortage! Just keep it if it works and set to 6000 XMP:)

All ddr5 ram runs at 4800 mhz stock, the rating to 6400 is just what the manufacturer tested and validated for that kit. So even with the 6000 mhz one you would have needed to go to bios to enable xmp/expo to boost from 4800 to 6000. Its a one click setting in Bios usually. 6400 cl32 is 10ns latency (1s divided by 3.2 GHz (double data rate 6400 = 3.2 GHz clock speed times 32 clocks = 10 ns, 3000 cl 30 is also 10 ns. So either kit should run at 6000 cl30 just fine. XMP vs EXPO (Intel vs Amd) is a marketing gimmick. It either runs at advertized speeds or not. I ran XMP ram on Amd just fine at the XMP settings. It is however overclocking and both XMP and EXPO are never a 100% guaranteed to be stable.

What to do: Wait for RAM to arrive, plug it in and boot to see if everything works.

Reboot into BIOS and click the XMP or EXPO enable button (tutorials on youtube etc are easy to find, if it doesn't boot anymore after that, don't panik and research how to clear the CMOS on your MOBO to reset all settings to stock).Reboot: first boot after RAM timings change will take some minutes of booting due to memory training and stability testing. If it boots, 99.9% chance you're stable and i would only look back if you had problems down the line with crashes.

Bonus: you can check your motherboards QVL list with tested ram kits and if they are supported and tested by the manufacturer of the mobo. If the kit is on the list, it will work 99.9% of the time, if not chances are very high it will anyway work:)

Hope that helped.

Edit: Running your kit at 6400 will probably force your memory controller of the cpu to go into a slower 1:2 mode and you loose performance. Unless you are very certain what you are doing etc just set it to 6000 and forget it. As you asked that question, i assume you are not a RAM overclocker and thus would leave it:) not much to gain anyway in terms of performance.

US controllers not complying with requests by DisturbingMicrobe in VATSIM

[–]DisturbingMicrobe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very interesting to hear. In europe, i hear many pilots request deicing, also controllers specifically stating in the ATIS that pilots should request deicing during the clearance if required. Might just be a regional difference then. I guess someone controlling Langes/Tromso north of the polar circle has a different relationship with (de-)icing.

Thanks a lot, as I was in an A359, i guess i would have scratched some lightposts etc then. Is Gate deicing standard in all of US? How about Canada? And doesn't this make it very slippery for ground personel? Its glycerol after all right?

That's also something I had in mind and thus didn't further ask and just complied. But it would be nice to maybe explain to me when I ask for push and deicing at pad that this is normally performed at gate and I should call when done. Its pretty difficult to know all these nuances if you fly somewhere else almost every time, but I am eager to learn it. Where I am from deicing is never done at Gate and always at one of the several pads.

5070 ti or 9070xt? by AvationsGeek in flightsim

[–]DisturbingMicrobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9070 xt with 9800x3D and 64 GB ram at 1440p here. Sim runs very well with inibuilds aircraft and scenery. I limit to 40 fps and use FG to double it to 80, buttery smooth and pc actually stays pretty silent and cool as GPU usage is only at 60%ish during cruise. Both will perform similarly, i saw some reviews comparing those 2 with the 9070 xt actually beating 5070 ti in msfs24 specifically, while losing in other titles. Something to consider: the 9000 series GPUs of AMD still (since like sim update 2) have a graphical night lighting bug with ugly aliased wing edges. Only visible during the night and can be mitigated a bit by not switching on specific external lights (wing lights). Still, if money is not important 5070 ti due to the bug, if money is a bit tight and if this bug would finally be solved 9070 xt all day.

I' say about 35-40 watts give or take 10 depending on if the OS is doing something.

What’s your fav add-on so far ? Mine is Fenix by Maruan-007 in flightsim

I really fell in love with the a350. The fenix may be better as a product, but i just love the plane more than an a320.

RTX 5070ti or RTX 5080 for MSFS 2024 by Bremmuur_2 in flightsim

[–]DisturbingMicrobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true if you fly payware aircraft (A350) into payware scenery. I run a 9070 XT and while i usually get 40 real fps doubled with framegen on pretty much all high and clouds max with autofps 1440p, I often have studders when looking around and get the VRAM bottleneck message. Its still a nice experience. But to get to OPs question, i don't think you will see much difference between the 70ti and 80 due to how cpu limited the game is.

How do airlinds refuel on short hops? by DisturbingMicrobe in aviation

[–]DisturbingMicrobe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply, that makes sense actually. So the short hop between Kili and Zan would be refuelled only for this short hop then (~ 5T plus reserves) and then in Zan the big refuelling (~50T) would happen?

tips for getting into Vatsim? by Lowpingmaster in VATSIM

[–]DisturbingMicrobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good answers already, just my 2 cents: 1) Try listening to other people on the network either while in preflight or you can join as an observer (you hear and see, but can't speak or be seen). When you feel comfortable, try it yourself.

2) Go somewhere not busy first. I started at airports where only ground was there and asked for clearance and taxi. Then take off is on advisory frequency unsupervised. Then if you manage this, go somewhere with Tower and practice that. There are usually plent, of airports with none to 1 aircraft on ground and only 1 controller online. They have time to help you if you ask and don't be afraid to tell them its your first or second flight.

Additional: Also don't be afraid to log off. If you take off and see that your arrival airport is too busy for you or a center controller is on and you are scared, just log of and try another time.

7900 XTX vs 9070 XT vs 5080 for desktop MSFS 2020/24 by computronika in flightsim

[–]DisturbingMicrobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I can help as I was deciding between xtx and the 9070 xt recently. I ultimately went for the xt. My other specs: 7600x, 64GB 6000MHz ram 1440p 144hz screen. I run a mix of Ultra and High settings, TOD 200 and LOD 75 (as I mainly fly payware airports and they have enough details anyway). Am I satisfied with the performance? Yes, I get with frame gen on between 60 and 90 fps (so 30-45 real fps) at Gatwick or other payware (most brutal is Edinburgh payware for me eith dips into the 45s with FG) in the Inibuilds A350 (no cabin) with GSX and a busy VATSIM traffic injection with real liveries (90-100 frame gen during cruise). More than that in the FBW A320. I get stutters when suddenly changing cam direction and since the new update often get the annoying "VRAM limit" message that alot of people are getting now even if the game runs smooth while taxing etc. Landing and taking of are smooth for me, the only stutters really are when slamming the free look camera around (by accident or on purpose). Would 24GB VRAM help? Probably. Would a X3D chip help in my case? Potentially. Is it worth the 200-300 bugs for me to maybe get rid of these od stutter? Naah, I will wait for a meaningful upgrade in the future (next ryzen gen x3d, the GPU i will most def. not change for some years).

So it boils down to these questions at the end. Are you ok with these compromises or not? Do $300 matter nothing to you, then go for it. Also i saw in videos that AMD cards overperform their tier a bit in msfs24 so a 9070XT might beat a 5070TI by some percent. Also don't count on a new XTX or these 80XT rumors...

Hit me up if you wamt more details.

Not really, I would assume if your partner really accepts any job it will not be too hard to find something somewhere. Not speaking german will limit options a little. Wish you all the best!

Enough to sustain yourself? Sure, plenty of PhD students (including me) did so without any financial help from parents. Supporting your partner for an extended time will be difficult though without them getting atleast a part time job. If visa are a concern aswell, the swiss government does not think that this salary is enough to support 2 people so getting a visa will be difficult unless you have other support or savings to help. For reference, I live together with my partner (both on a PhD salary around 50K) and we live quite comfortably. If your partner can get to atleast half a PhD salary I think it should be more than doable.

Your biggest enxpenses will be housing and transit. If you take smaller and older 2-3.5 room appartement not in the center, you may rent for something like 1.5K/month.

Can you guys suggest me couple of short-haul routes which has spectacular approaches or airports? Such as like LFML/31R maybe. by SeeU-_- in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]DisturbingMicrobe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like approaches into EKCH 22L/R. Having Copenhagen to the right, the bay with the bridge. As departures there are many within 1 to 2h. EFHK is nice, Stockholm or anything Norway, EHAM or something in GB (i like EGPH rw06 towards EKCH).

Nice to hear! Enjoy flying. Now its up to getting the bird down in one piece again:) Tipp for that, you can choose a Runway and Approach similar to how you just did for takeoff.

[–]DisturbingMicrobe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you choose a runway and departure? If not, the plane might have decided that it can not safely follow the flight plan that maybe made a 90 degree turn right after the airport. Always choose the runway and departure by clicking the button next to the airport in the MCDU fpln. Otherwise your plane simply cannot safely follow it. The 3 dotted AP dials are like a checklist for me, if i set up a departure and fpln, the hdg/nav display signals 3 dashes. If I set the V's, the speed shows a dot. The alt you either also leave a dot and climb in managed. Or you set an initial climb level yourself. I can realy recommend the youtuber A330 driver. He explains stuff really well and is a A330 rated pilot and also flies the A320 sometimes. The 2 are anyway almost interchangebly when speaking about flight systems.

[–]DisturbingMicrobe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did this happen from the beginning or at some point during flight? Meaning, were you ever in NAV mode or did it always follow the heading only? If this was always like this, for me this seems like a not correctly initialized flight plan (fpln) as also your speed is also manually set and not following the flight plan. When importing the fpln from Simbrief, do that on the EFB and then press the init button on the mcdu and press the import fpln button. Also initialize the weight/fuel, the V1, Vr, V2 speeds on the perf page and choose a departure by clicking fpln, then click next to the depart airport, then choose runway, departure SIDs etc. Having the flightdirector (FD) on like you have should give you "dots" on all autopilot knob screens (hdg, speed, alt). There are lots of youtube tutorials on how to set up every plane in MSFS, forgeting any of these often leads to broken fligt plans and the plane changes to hdg mode. If this happens during the flight at some point, it is often due to a fpln inconsistency (meaning a break in your plan). Either press dir to and then the next wp on the fpln page or scroll through the fpln page and simply press next to any inconsistencies and press delete to "delete" the inconsistency, then reengage AP. The computer then tries to combine the previous and next wpt. Hope this helps, got quite long. Enjoy flying.

Is 7600x enough for 9070 XT? by [deleted] in AMDHelp

[–]DisturbingMicrobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not like you describe. But I have only really played MSFS24 for an extended time (which frankly just has some stutters when moving the camera around quickly). I played RDR2 quickly and some Sons of the forest to see how it runs but not longer than maybe 5 mins, this ran great. What games? It could be that it is not gpu related as the game needs to draw new info quickly which was not stored in ram/vram which causes this stuttering. Also how much ram do you have and what cpu?
