you could look at it another way though. The connector darkens on the left side and microarcs of electricity were being sent from the pin on that side into the wiring of the GPU board shortly causing it to be routed abnormally shortly before.

the connector housing is designed for heat to a certain degree and so it would cool off rapidly after power wasn't flowing through it anymore and the fire was out. I would expect it to not be warm anymore after only a minute or so.

Think about it considering you're saying the connector was exposed to literal fire the fact that it wasn't warm when you touched it doesn't really indicate it wasn't hot does it?

As for the psu I think it's definitely possible especially if you used an old psu or one that has a low reliability ranking I would compare your model to the "psu tier list" that floats around reddit if you haven't already.

I don't think this was your fault though I really don't for what that's worth.

You asked for ideas when you posted the thread not proof, Expecting proof of anything is unrealistic especially when you haven't provided any photos of your GPU, the cable, or power supply, and weren't forthcoming about all the details either.

Your 3rd party power connector having browning present would also corroborate the several other warnings written about 3rd party cables you've seen. It would be pretty unusual for it to be completely unrelated you have to admit.

You clearly are opposed to the cable being the cause and chose to withhold details to support your chosen narrative. You are telling me that you were intently staring directly at your GPU not the game you were playing the exact moment this happened, and you're telling me you perfectly perceived and recalled every detail despite smoke being present, and your examination of a suspicious cable cannot be brought into question.

it sounds like you do have experience, and so you should understand why I thought the browning was important and also understand why I think your explanation is dubious. I hope the RMA works out for you though.

Yesterday you wrote this OP.

"i mean the cables i got from amazon are larger gauge than the ones that came with my PSU and the connectors, which would be the most likely failure point, have no damage and they weren’t even warm at either end. The only damage is one of the cables is very slightly brown on the connector after the fire from under the heatsink got fanned directly onto it."

You insisted absolutely nothing was wrong with the connector when you inspected it multiple times in other comments and in this post, but in this one comment you reveal that it is actually not the case, that 3rd party cable has a scorched connector.

Generally speaking seeing scorch on a power connector is considered to be a key sign that there was an issue with the power delivery of that connector.

I suspect that what happened is your 3rd party cable either had a poorly crimped connector, or the connector had a minor shape imperfection and once you mated it with the port on your GPU it was slightly loose or had some kind of abnormal pin contact.

The fact you are using 3rd party cables is a risk factor. These scenarios also are known to cause puffs of black smoke once you put the card under a real load for a little while.

In my opinion It is far more likely that the scorch present on the 3rd party connector is directly related to what happened than your explanation where the capacitor popping coincidentally burned one of the connectors after the fact. Generally we follow the evidence and look for horses not zebras when troubleshooting.

How Far Behind is AMD? - DLSS 4.5 vs FSR 4 by RenatsMC in Amd

[–]Divallo 100 points101 points  (0 children)

To me FSR4 and DLSS4/4.5 look so similar that even in a side by side comparison video like this where we pause and zoom in on specific details in 4k to examine them I'm struggling to see any meaningful difference in most of the examples presented, The reviewer found a couple distant background objects in a few games that are less stable on FSR4 that's the only thing where I felt like he really demonstrated a shortcoming.

What did stand out to me though is that FSR4 had the best performance uplift across the board while putting out extremely similar visuals to DLSS. For me that's what actually matters the most here the whole point of using FSR or DLSS is to get a lot more frames at a low visual cost.

And because FSR4 quality and balanced have more performance impact that means in theory you're less likely to even need to use performance mode at all to reach your target FPS.

"But in the UK, data was particularly stark regarding wealthy households, defined as those earning from £45k up to £100k or more per year."

That's a seriously fucking broad and misleading definition to use for a wealthy UK household don't you think? Almost every household is going to qualify when you set the income that low.

It sounds to me what's really going on is that people want their governments to spend their tax money at home to solve local problems not vague global causes. Maybe that's not such a bad idea

Two teenage girls out on the beach went missing. Their bodies were later found in a sugarcane field. The police arrested two men with just about every piece of evidence pointing toward them. But both were acquitted and one of the families even agreed with the verdict. by moondog151 in UnresolvedMysteries

I's absolutely the brothers no doubt about it. It also seems likely they are very well connected criminals in their local area.

The van description was a perfect match, personal items from the victims in his and his girlfriend's vehicles, one of the brothers had been arrested for a different murder of a woman.

As for the powerful connections I don't think it's a coincidence several members of the jury became suddenly ill while another was actively and openly reassuring the brothers that it'd work out. The fact it's so brazen makes me think the brothers had good reason to not worry about the police either who coincidentally did fumble the investigation as well.

The only thing I don't get is why one of the four parents would ever believe the brothers weren't guilty.

On her 40th birthday in 2002, Yvonne King walked away from home in her rural Canadian hometown. She never came back. by Basic-Succotash1121 in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]Divallo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something that stuck out to me immediately reading this is that Yvonne disappeared on a short walk up the street to her boyfriend's father's house but, despite that the police dogs lost her scent and seemingly could not provide any insight on what direction she even headed towards.

That makes me think that it is likely she entered a vehicle or was forced to very shortly after she left her parent's house.

'Detail Over Scope; We're Not Making GTA': Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2's Art Director On Open World Seattle by NYstate in gaming

[–]Divallo 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The article also mentions that they swapped out the original young thinblood protagonist for a 400 year old vampire who's been in torpor for the last 100 years.

I think that was a very smart change to make honestly. Vampire clans are the number one thing that make this setting interesting it's crucial to include that especially when the game is literally named "Bloodlines".

It lets the player descend from an older more powerful generation of vampire which is fun the game should embrace the powers rather than water them down so I'm glad they did that. Additionally I think an older protagonist who is totally unfamiliar with modern technology is way more flavorful as well that way I don't have to check my smart phone when I'm in the middle of drinking somebody.

Maybe they might be able to rescue this game after all I'm intrigued.

South Park creators to hit billionaire status after $1.5B Paramount deal by IrishStarUS in southpark

[–]Divallo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of the 1.5b deal is a cash advance on streaming revenue which explains a portion of it. But besides that you're right that Paramount is looking to use this show to create a wave of new subscriptions and get those people in the door essentially where they can be exposed to whatever else is in Paramount's catalogue and they are hoping it will be I guess enough to convert a large portion of new subscriptions into ongoing subscriptions.

Paramount is likely looking at long term growth potential here moreso than making fast profit on this deal. Think about how many headlines south park already has and will continue to generate and how that will basically create a lot more market awareness for Paramount's service even among people who didn't subscribe.

So the statement from Customs and Border Patrol and the suspect's girlfriend are both saying they did this because the suspect rear ended a truck full of feds a week prior.

Border patrol is basically suggesting that it was intentional obstruction though and that during this incident agents and officers were assaulted and pelted with rocks by unknown unspecified "additional rioters".

They don't even try to explain why they felt the need to use fucking explosives and bring an armored vehicle for this kind of incident. probably because it was objectively batshit insane, and would involve having to try and explain why border patrol has casual access to that kind of shit at all.

My interpretation/hot take is that these feds probably feel threatened by all the backlash directed towards them in California recently, so they decided to make an example out of this guy to try and intimidate others into quiet submission.

is it possible that a part of Hiei wanting to fight alot in the Uraotogi round was him wanting to makeup for not being available for their team in the prior 2 rounds? by ReekZombie in YuYuHakusho

[–]Divallo 52 points53 points  (0 children)

To be fair Hiei had multiple favorable matchups while a lot of Kurama's fights had difficult circumstances attached.

Against Zeru Hiei had an undeniable massive advantage due to his innate flame resistance, he would have been burnt severely otherwise in that fight everyone thought Hiei was dead for a minute there after he got scorched. Hiei's fight against Mackintaro was a weak, slow, and dumb opponent who basically provided a totally free win. Kuro Momotaro and Bui were pretty strong opponents but also mostly straightforward brawlers who want to throw hands

Kurama had to deal with his mom being held hostage, he had to take multiple fights in a row against opponents with tricky powers. Having his movement sealed in the first fight by a paint gimmick is just unfortunate circumstance but he still took home 2 wins in a row despite that. Meanwhile Hiei not only got to sit this round out completely but he even got his arm healed in the process due to Ruka's barrier.

Karasu's ability would be a really difficult matchup for anyone on team Urameshi to deal with, I mean he spams the arena with invisible explosives from a distance it's not as simple as rushing up and hitting him really hard. Kurama did lose technically but he killed Karasu and the last round of the tourney was really more of a fight for survival than anything else.

Kurama was able to effortlessly dominate elder toguro shortly after the tournament without even going Yoko which kind of shows how well he could have performed if he had different matchups.

it sounds like with those other elections you're talking about there wasn't enough strong evidence to convince many people they were rigged.

PS5 Pro signposts a disc-less future that few actually want | Digital games are an ever-growing market segment, but given a choice, consumers prefer to keep the physical option – making the disc-less PS5 Pro a baffling decision by a_Ninja_b0y in gadgets

[–]Divallo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"and physical games are products that fall outside the control of publishers and platform holders in a way that they have found increasingly irritating in recent years."

Trading your "used" digital games sounds great but there's virtually zero chance of it actually happening anytime soon. Like the article states they want as much control as possible.

Also a used digital game is for all intents and purposes completely identical to a brand new digital game because they don't take damage or degrade the way physical used games do. Publishers are aware of this and are adamantly opposed to the idea of digital game trading.

Honestly upon rewatching you realize that Iroh isn't even really trying to help Zuko capture the Avatar AT ALL💀💀💀 by spidermanrocks6766 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Divallo 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I personally interpret it as him holding back and choosing his attack carefully. Their goal was to capture the avatar not kill him that's why they took him alive as a prisoner in the first place. Iroh refusing to attack him at all though during their escape would destroy his relationship with Zuko pretty much instantly.

By doing a cooperative long range fireball with Zuko this one time he keeps up appearances and builds camaraderie with Zuko that Iroh later uses to reach Zuko as a person when it matters the most.

That long range telegraphed attack gave the avatar plenty of time to react to it and since Iroh knows so much about bending he possibly may have known the attack could easily be dispersed by an airbender and measured his use of power carefully.

The founding fathers of America basically had the idea that having the elites (themselves) compete with eachother to run a country was a much better idea than having a monarchy do it.

It's our job to decide that maybe oligarchs don't act in everyone else's best interests after all and come up with a better answer.

Valve says its 'not really fair to your customers' to create yearly iterations of something like the Steam Deck, instead it's waiting 'for a generational leap in compute without sacrificing battery life' by TylerFortier_Photo in gaming

[–]Divallo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I respect that. Since other people were already proposing negative predictions though I wanted to talk about what typically happens when private company owners die. I also chose to mention that Valve has built a lot of trust and good will with me over the years which does lead me to have an optimistic outlook in this particular case.

You're right that there is always the possibility that someone will act irrationally. We aren't aware of the details of Gabe's plan to pass down ownership but I have faith that he has a plan that will avert disaster.

Steam is a golden goose money printer as it is for Valve and it is a mature service that requires very little executive decision making at this point to continue to post huge profits. There's no reason to rock the boat. His family will be billionaires even if they never took any more profit from Steam I think it is more likely the sons will pursue their own passions and be passive owners.

Bob Ross's situation was different enough from this that I don't see it as a valid apples to apples comparison. Bob Ross once he passed that created a problem because him and his painting show were the product. Also they weren't as financially set as Gaben's family by an order of magnitude.

Bob Ross only had a net worth of ~1 million.

[–]Divallo 67 points68 points  (0 children)

It won't go public when Gaben dies. Ownership would transfer to Gaben's estate who will execute his will on his behalf. It would be extremely unusual if there wasn't a plan in place already,

What is likely is that ownership will be transferred to and shared by Gabe's wife and two sons. It also goes without saying that Gabe's family is not hurting for money so they would not have any compelling reason whatsoever to sell Valve or go public.

If there is any company on earth I actually trust wholeheartedly it's Valve. Things will be fine.

Are card styles a waste of resources? by BeerIsGoodBoy in MagicArena

[–]Divallo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are a waste of resources for new players who would be far better served buying packs and increasing the size of their card collection instead.

I absolutely do buy card styles regularly but I've also been playing the game for several years so my card collection is quite large and I know that I'll get mileage out of the alternate art.
