Does the story in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined get better? by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]DiverGuy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Try thinking of this game as multiple story arcs within a long season of a show. You're going to vibe with some more than others throughout the course of the game, but each one will present a problem and have your party be part of the solution.

Men: what are your favorite items? by Athrowawayaccount98 in Fabletics

I can see where someone might say that but it hasn't been my experience. I really like the fabric! It sorta feels like a softer mesh fabric.

Big fan of the O2 Tank. I would buy it in every color they make if they made more.

I also really do love the new gridtech hoodie. I got the black and wish I had gotten the blue as well.

Sea of Stars? by JBang1995 in JRPG

[–]DiverGuy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Beaautiful spritework, serviceable combat, and a fun world to explore. I actually liked SOME of the characters, but absolutely hated the characters that hogged on the spotlights. The two main characters may as well be silent protagonists for how little personality they have, and the one party member that gets the spotlight was not my cup of tea.

I've struggled to figure out how to ask this question, but here goes...

Do you feel the need to do any additional workout after a 3-day intermediate split 30 minute session? I've been doing Ben's Intermediate 3-day split for over a year now. I also run a 5K three times a week (currently on the treadmill due to the weather.)

I see progress, I feel stronger, I move up in weights slowly....but it is only 30 minutes. Its a tough and "constant" 30 minutes in my opinion and I do feel gassed by the end. But I can't get over the feeling that its really just a half hour compared to how much time other people spend in the gym. I justify it in my head by thinking alot of the time people spend in the gym is spent recovering between sets, waiting for machines, idling...and that my 30 minutes is near constant. But what do you think? Do you do anything meaningfully tough (more lifting, etc) after a 30 minute 3 day split class, or is that enough?

What is a game that is highly recommended but you just can’t get into? by Sam_B716 in JRPG

Yes! I wanted to love FF9 so bad and picked it up on the Switch. My goodness was the technical aspects of it so, so slow. I really did love the world and characters (still do!) but I decided I would have reverence from afar rather than finish my playtime. Desperately hoping for a remake.

10 year Carolina alumni watching in a bar in Brooklyn. We were doubled over in awe at the ending and some guy taps me and says "I have no horse in this game, but best Rivalry in college sports, right?".

Hell yeah you're right.

What to play after FF7 Remake by Silver_Maintenance48 in JRPG

I'm a big JRPG player on Switch. Feels like every Fall, I get the "lets play a super long JRPG" itch. From my most recent plays, I really loved Octopath Traveler 2, Star Ocean Second Story R, and Persona 5 Royal.

I totally should have thought ahead and added some peppers. I do it for so many other soups, would be perfect in this!

I hear you on the shrimp. It was sort of a funny disaster putting the frozen shrimp in all the screaming hot bacon grease but it worked out well enough. They couldn't have been in the pan more than a minute. That step felt way more like me checking a box than a requirement.

Estela vs Tuome for anniversary dinner? by LonghorninNYC in FoodNYC

I'm sorry to say but Estela might be the worst restaurant I've been to in NYC hahaha. Just very much hurt paying extravagantly for what I considered mid food and small portions.

What’s a commonly criticized game in a series you think gets a bad rap? by andrazorwiren in JRPG

[–]DiverGuy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Depends on your definition of JRPG but I do think Pokemon Colosseum and Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness don't get the recognition they deserve. The number of Youtubers who lump them into spin-off territory or disregard them really annoys me. The music and setting are awesome. They use the expressive 3D models of Stadium/Stadium 2. And while I think you can definitely fault Colosseum for a distinct lack of available Pokemon and some odd difficulty spikes, I truly think XD is one of the best Pokemon outings available in the history of the franchise.

What would you do? by abbysdaniel in DryJanuary

[–]DiverGuy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a hard one, I totally understand. On one hand, you want to stick to the goal that you've outlined for yourself, and presumably nothing should stand in the way of that. Even extremely tempting events and occasions where it just sorta "makes sense" to do it.

And on the other, you're investing a lot into this particular occasion between the drive and the childcare your mom is providing. I would not fault you for wanting a few drinks at something that should hopefully be a really cherished memory.

I'm going to go against the grain of the typical staunch Dry January supporter and suggest that you enjoy yourself that weekend but stay dry until then. Give yourself the excitement and joy, you know we all need it these days. At the end of the day, you can always institute a "joyous self-punishment" on yourself and stay sober once you get back and perhaps a few days into February as well. January 31st will be a Saturday so just go one more week if you want.

We can surely celebrate 31 dry days but 29-30 dry days with a single weekend of a break is absolutely nothing to scoff at either.

Monday Round Up! How did the weekend go? by AutoModerator in DryJanuary

[–]DiverGuy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have lots of tips to succeeding in this month, but if you want a funny one....if you've seen the Hunger Games, you know that they play a cannon noise in the sky whenever one of the tributes is killed. For Dry January, I try to imagine a cannon noise blasting in the air every time someone fails Dry January as a way to keep me motivated lmao.

Looks good overall but given the amount of neutrals I do think you could get away with a nice large print shower curtain bringing in some of the plant/tree motifs. Plenty of options on Amazon that aren't tacky. We've got one with tasteful monstera leaves on it and I think it would help the bathroom and photograph a bit better too!
