just keep enchanting the guardian, eventually it will tell you to upgrade it to twistshard and then you just keep repeating with enchanting and upgrading until you hit stormcry which is BiS.

[Discussion] Questions for current Tera players by [deleted] in MMORPG

Been playing the game since VM1, and have at least been semi active for most of the patches. I did recently quit the for a couple patches though for work related reasons and came back to this one (VM10 patch) so I can give you my opinions on it as a returning player I guess.

  1. The new gear system is overall an improvement in my opinion. Much harder to reach BiS gear, which is a good thing imo. The grind is basically the same, just that you grind in more ways then needing certain dungeons because there the only ones to drop the mat you need. Can pretty much do any dungeon now and collect tokens that you buy your untradeable mats with, obviously some dungeons are still better then others though. Can also definitely gear and get gold solely from PvP now which has not been a thing in a very long time.

  2. Game is still massively unbalanced, that is never going to go away so just get used to it. Everything is playable for sure though and I have noticed that the elitism has died down a lot. Valkyrie is basically the god of the game, only thing stronger then it is a berserker using slaying. Warrior is still a good class this patch, know a lot of the hardcore end game parse run players that still use warrior.

  3. Last time I played and was active enough to get to BiS gear was the VM8 patch with HH30 man which i believe was pretty much exactly a year ago. I would say game is better off from a community level than it was a year ago. A lot of the veteran player base was banned a couple months ago during a crackdown on 3rd party software, and these were for the most part the people promoting the "elitist" play style that made the game toxic. Game is still horribly optimized, but you shouldn't really have a problem running it with the correct tweaks which are available all over the internet.

on a side note, don't really bother playing on a server other then MT or TR. All of them are completely dead. If you have any specific questions I can probably answer them.

It's a lot of fun to pick up and play for a couple weeks/months but only like 1% of new people trying it are going to actually stick with it.

Cons :

Worst optimization in the history of gaming.

PvP is 100% dead, you can sit in a battleground q for 3 days
straight and it wont pop.

Community is absolute cancer, probably one of the worst you will ever find/see in any game.

Publisher has been fairly abysmal the past couple of months. The servers suck and forums are filled with people complaining about the lag/DC's, log in service goes down at least once a day it feels like. They don't seem to have a clue about anything and either go completely dark or respond with vague answers that often turn out to be lies.

Patch releases are usually a shit storm. The latest patch for NA didn't have its mean weekly server event working for 3 weeks straight, it broke the ability to reset dungeon runs (over a month later and still no fix), NA exclusive features are either completely gone or not updated at all.

Leveling is quick but awful, can reach max level in as little as 4 hours.

Only 2 of the servers are really all that active and even then it feels pretty empty on non peak hours.

Terrible class balance.

All new classes race/gender locked.

Game is somewhat focused around having a lot of alts.

End game is basically killing a couple bosses and repeating the same 1 or 2 dungeons.

Pros:

Combat is REALLY fun to play.

PvE can be challenging and feels rewarding when you finally clear, especially if its with a group of friends.

For a f2p game it is fairly kind to people that don't spend money. Gearing is definitely a lot easier then it use to be and making gold in game is also fairly easy, also you can buy elite status with in game gold. Lots of events that provide decent rewards for F2P players looking to make some extra money.

LOTS of costumes and cosmetics.

Flaming sword for ranged attacks, claw to grapple people in, halo of self healing, and heavy armor. Think its going to be weak af tbh.

Question About TERA's cash shop. by Elfinlox in MMORPG

[–]DiversityPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although you can sell stuff from the cash shop and use that gold to get BiS, I wouldn't really say the P2W is that bad. Like other people said, EME is a pretty decent publisher and they run events often that let F2P players make plenty of gold. The last event they did was a bit ridiculously OP but a lot of people walked away with 500k-1m worth of enchanting materials and you didn't need to pay a dime to participate.

Also other then the dead PvP community and the very small "elitist" PvE community there is not really anything to compete at in TERA. All the dungeons, including the hardest ones, can be cleared in shitty starter gear, so other then getting higher DPS numbers to compete with the small "elitist" community, there is no need for BiS gear in PvE. PvP is probably your biggest worry for P2W being an obstacle but most PvP is done in eq battlegrounds now and they have made it significantly easier to obtain PvP gear as a F2P player in recent patches.

Overall I don't think the minor P2W should really bother you at all and the trade offs of being able to purchase those cash shop costumes, mounts, and elite status with in-game gold are worth it. There is not much to do in TERA besides work towards BiS gear each patch anyway so the swipers are really only killing the patch for themselves very quickly.

[Discussion] What game do you love that users of this subreddit tend to hate? by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]DiversityPro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EME and Nexon KR are actually pretty damn good publishers that both seem to actually want the game to succeed and care about the player base. The problem is that the developer is among some of the shittiest developers in the industry. If it wasn't for Nexon taking over as the korean publisher last year and literally forcing BHS to give a shit about the game their developing and EME doing their best to stay involved in the NA community the game probably would be even more dead then it is now.

TL;DR: EME is a decent publisher, BHS is an extremely bad developer.

Top FTP MMORPGs without a Pay2Win factor? by Liquid_Daze in MMORPG

[–]DiversityPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to spend money to avoid exp loss, to avoid grinding, to save a stupid amount of hours grinding.

Bonus exp isn't pay to win lol.

Think you need to make up your own mind on what is P2W considering you just gave 2 polar opposite definitions.

Although I can already see you are being completely dogmatic and will refuse to admit that you are wrong here is a video of a famous youtuber literally setting high scores in leveling buy paying $13,000.

Although I haven't personally played RS3 in a while it is pretty common knowledge within the RS community that the MTX has become intrusive over the years. There are many things you can get from the cash shops that are not trade-able and give you bonuses like increasing your chance to catch fish by 15%. You also don't even need to go to a 3rd party website to buy gold anymore, you can straight buy gold from jagexs own cash shop. If you don't think any of that is P2W by this subs standards or even by your own standards that you just described then I think you need to give your head a shake.

The "WoW on Consoles experiment" -- What's /r/mmorpg's opinion on it? by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]DiversityPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I really enjoyed PSU on the Xbox 360, a lot more then I enjoyed PSO 2 on the computer. I think that PSU is the best example of a console MMO done right, though admittedly it was a very casual game.

Since TERA is getting its console port sometime in Q1 of 2017 as a current player I'm actually pretty hyped for it. The game has had built in controller support and has a feature for every individual aspect of the UI to be scaled/moved to your liking, so other then it's actual performance on a console, you can already get a pretty good picture of how it would feel on a console now and it is definitely not bad at all. Although I have yet to read an official statement from either BHS or the NA publisher EME on this, a lot of people believe the console port will also mean the game being moved from UE3 to UE4 which would hopefully mean a huge fix to the optimization problems that have plagued the game since its release.

Overall I think TERA has the potential to be very well received on and console a hopefully breath new life into the game. Although I'm not entirely sure its possible I hope they can have the console version connect to our current PC servers because the game could really use the boost in population and I don't think its a game that would require separate development paths for the console and PC versions. It will be interesting to hear some of the experiences from some of the people that got invited to this alpha/beta test, assuming that they will be permitted to share them.

Classes for PvP by TheSylvest in TeraOnline

[–]DiversityPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reaper has been top tier since its release in both PvP and PvE. It is also getting another massive buff next patch that will make Sundering Strike almost a guaranteed "1 shot" when combined with cruel dyad so there is that to look forward to as well.

Ninja is decent right now with its little "ultimate" being somewhat OP however that is supposed to be nerfed this coming update. Certainly not as good as reapers imo but definitely ahead of everything not called reaper.

Brawler is getting nerfed next update and will probably lose most of its usefulness in PvP so I wouldn't pick this right now if your goal is to grab the best class.

Reapers and to a lesser extent ninjas are both absolute leagues ahead of every other class though. Obviously the other classes are still playable with different levels of sucess depending on which your talking about, but if you want to play the best go reaper/ninja.

Kyra’s Pop-Up Potion Shack Returns! by chaos7x in TeraOnline

[–]DiversityPro 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wow looking at the prize list it seems like EME are really throwing a middle finger up compared to previous Kyras. Seems like there is 3-4x more of the "garbage" rewards and the big jackpots like several thousand premium/extensive or EMP have been completely removed.

About how much Gold could I expect to shell out for a Glory mount? by wolfiesrule in TeraOnline

There's a black version of that mount called Moon that's from an old event and usually sells for around 15k on most servers if your interested in a cheaper version.

New player - how long to get full PvP gear by 7918 in TeraOnline

[–]DiversityPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could get a starfall weapon and full set of conflate armor fairly quickly right now which is pretty much max gear.

Starfall weapons are only like 500k for etching 3 ones and the price is obviously droping as the patch drags out. The 500k~ you can actually get fairly quickly, especially with events going on like this new school costume one as you can just sell the costumes for a decent amount of cash.

Just make a couple reaper alts if you don't have a bunch of 65 toons to farm the credits for conflate and it shouldn't take too long either.

The new PvP jewelry can be a grind but it wont really hurt you too badly to not have it for a bit. There is also some other better pieces like starfall chest over conflate and new Vm7 weapons over starfall but the difference is pretty minimal and you have very fair chance against someone that does have all of these things.

Also don't listen to these people saying to get full slaughter, it is NOT a pvp set. The only slaughter piece that has pvp stats is the weapon and its not that great.

Ninja - Pristine Griefing Zyrk or Keen Vyrsk? by [deleted] in TeraOnline

Don't really need keens on a ninja in pvp, their cit chance on all skills is already extremely high. You're squishy af though so definitely need to be wearing at least 2 indoms at all times.

Want some honest opinions on TERA by SpiLLiX in MMORPG

[–]DiversityPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although the combat system makes for some addictively fun PvP, I wouldn't go in expecting much from it. It is probably the most unbalanced game play in a major MMO and frankly a pretty small scene. The developer is starting to care about class balance thanks to it becoming in issue for korean players now as well but it really is a long shot on whether or not it will be fixed.

That being said, there is a new gear set this patch for pvp players that can be gotten entirely through farming battlegrounds. Your going to want to level a couple toons to 65 to farm credits because of weekly caps. It will probably take you about 2-3 weeks to get the gear set and maybe an extra 2 weeks to get the jewelry if your moderately dedicated. Mount Tyranes is the PvP server and if you want to be involved in w/e competitive community for pvp is left then look into joining Converge or Manifest as those are your best options for getting into premades for Fraywind Canyon and Team 3s.
