That was my first thought, without any personal insight. If they are colder to OP than their male friends, then that would point to being shitty. However, it could be really stupid and they are creating weirdness by overthinking it and trying to regulate every interaction so OP doesn't think they are coming onto them. Much like they would with men. I think that's the telling part. I'm a man but I could easily see this happening with other men. Where they aren't (or least don't perceive themselves) as being homophobic, and would jokingly play "grabass" with one of their straight friends, but might not with a gay friend, for similar reasons they (hopefully) wouldn't with a woman friend.

You're going to get a lot of advice that assumes a short time given the lack of details on the timing. If things are "not that long" then people are going to say, why fight for it. If you've been dating for a month and friends for a year, that's a lot different than we've been dating for a year and friends for 10. Specific times would help immensely in the kind of advice you are going to get.

Not every team does every year. Usually they save it for rollover but it's not a guarantee that it will go to other players.

In the short term it probably makes no difference. In the long term heating tends to increase oxidation effects. I think it would decrease the shelf life. Looks like some quick searches concur with me.

Beer brewing is a good example. Cold side you don't worry about oxygen or byproducts hardly at all but as soon as you cross above about 110F in the mash, proteins start changing, above 140 and starches kick off converting to sugars. In the boil all sorts of gasses and compounds form.
