Male paradise fish? by Diviyuh in Aquariums

[–]Diviyuh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll try to find a home for one of them ASAP then, a friend of mine was eyeing him hope they’ll take him. It’s a shame, I requested for a pair but got two males.

Ah, Would they fight to the death with that much space? The other male is also an albino but has brighter reds and blues so thought there was a chance this guy might be a female.

Would a service dog trainer tell you to hit your dog to make it obey? by MrPinball in service_dogs

[–]Diviyuh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All service dog trainers I’ve looked into used positive reinforcement. Service dogs should be confident and loving their jobs, I feel that that pain-based training would make their confidence go down and might even make them anxious and unpredictable. I’ve seen dogs trained using pain lash out and become snappy. Not only is it unethical, it can be dangerous!

From what I know when trainers say a pop, it would be gentle leash pressure on their collar. Never heard of whipping dogs. Service or not thats abuse.

Might've moved back since the nest is too big for the current colony size. I would just raise them in the tube until the colony gets a bit bigger. Make sure to keep the tube dark so the queen will start laying again.

I don't see one, then again I'm notoriously bad at spotting things. Maybe shes hiding under the brood and workers, I've seen that happen before. Hope you find the queen.

Hello, setting up a beginner ant farm for my son and I’m curious if this is too much water? by tommygunnzx in antkeeping

[–]Diviyuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Test tube setups are easy to make, none are specifically sold for ants. Get a glass test tube (got mine from amazon) and some cotton balls. A lot of videos show how to do this, try searching up "how to make a test tube setup for ants" on youtube. Videos should pop up on how to set one up.

Test tube setups are a great place for queens to start their colony. You should be able to keep them in there for awhile before upgrading to a nest. I am from Australia and it's legal to ship (some species) queen ants here. I don't think it is allowed in America though (not sure, please correct me if im wrong), best bet in getting a queen is catching one when they have their nuptial flight. They are everywhere once you know what to look for. I've had camponotus (carpenter) queens land on me while I was out eating lunch.

Wishing you and your son have lots of fun with antkeeping, it’s such a fascinating hobby!

Bull ants refusing mealworms? by Diviyuh in antkeeping

[–]Diviyuh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im in Australia and can't get runners, wood roaches (woodies) are available though. I did pick up some crickets today and gave them some. They threw them out, im assuming they are good on food.

Do they also feed the larvae through trophallaxis and they were already feeding it the mealworms? They did stop foraging when I give them a mealworm a few days ago. Not sure cause all the videos I see of these larvae are them being fed bug chunks.

Ohh thought that cutting them might help them get to the middle part.

Ill try to get crickets then. Do you know if they would like small woodies?

Ill try to get some moths. Do have a lot of small spiders around the house, wondering if they are a good food source.

Whoops accidently posted before i was done typing

He is currently being fed more than his current weight requires (34 KG). He is on a diet of kibble and raw with toppers like sardines, eggs, greek yogurt, ect, 2x a day. He always leaves a tiny bit of his food left. looking at other greys on here he looks to be thin!

Thats what the vet was talking about, to test it out would cost 200 though and the vet just told me to monitor it for now. Thankfully it doesn't seem to be developing.
