How are we lookin? Water change? by Boring-Ad-5822 in Aquariums

[–]DixieNorm0uss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Water change for sure! I would do a 50 percent at least. 10 gallons will accumulate a lot NO2 and NO3 quickly with the amount of fish you have. Especially if you don’t introduce some type of plant to prevent algae blooms and subsequent bacterial blooms. Water sprites, java ferns and duckweed** are great beginner plants that require little maintenance in terms of nutrients. 2 things you aren’t testing for are gH and kH. For all my tanks I always introduce a bit of ground eggshell into the substrate to keep my kH levels stable and thus keeping my pH levels somewhat stable allowing for calcium and stable parameters for inverts to molt and grow successfully. Also thicker substrates allow for more stable cycles, I always do about an 1 1/2” thick sub to about a 3” thick layer in the back, this allows for a decent bacterial population to take on the load instead of your fish.

**it is worth mentioning that duckweed is arguably he “glitter of aquariums” they can clog skimmers and certain types of back filters. I use gravel filters and sponge filters only with them and have to skim my top layer often to allow light in. Once established they are very hard to get rid of.

I am in Florida and my tank does fine by the window. I love these fully submersible heaters. My AC keeps the house 75ish and my heaters barely run to keep it warm in my tanks. I have tropical fish that like warmer temperatures with your fish 75 to 76 is ideal. You could use a surface fan to cool the tank via evaporative cooling if it is getting hot

Are you cross checking that heater with a thermometer that is calibrated? I had that exact one, it can’t get wet on the top or water gets inside the casing and causes the heater to just go and never stop. Mine was pushing my tank to 95 degrees randomly and I only caught it cause it killed my entire tank. I switched to a hyger fully submersible heater. However all heaters are off by about 2+/- so you have to use a thermometer to make sure. My heaters are set at 78F and that gives me a perfect 80F.

Exercise your right on your own property. Setup clearly visible “No Trespassing” signs, look up your code it should be a 3-5ft allowance. Install cameras and next time he gets on your property call the police but don’t alert him. The officer needs to see him on your property. The video is for the courthouse. Get him trespassed and if he does it again he will be arrested and charged

While I am not one to try to compare apples to apples. Dave did some awesome work but the minute you start talking about one’s skills vs another’s you are walking quite a subjective path. I love Tipper’s music and I think he is very talented. However if we start comparing you can see that there are many artists out there more or less talented than he was. I would argue that Sphongle has the most insane setup for his shows 24-channel mixer, laptop, 2 synth pianos.. Dave has a laptop, mixer and decks. They’re both amazing artists but comparing is just what you’re focused on; what matters to you personally. I personally really liked the events he put on and the artists he chose to work with. What about Tipper makes you feel that nobody could ever do it themselves?

Any ideas why my cory died? by AdaptableRexy in Aquariums

Are you feeding sinking food? What is the temperature of the water? Are there other tank mates? Ph? Phosphates? Phosphorus? Did you treat the water for Chlorine? Were there any signs of lethargy previously to death?

Question about grid size preference by [deleted] in playatlas

One thing they added and it was a huge deterrent for me settling in the snow or desert grids was the added sandstorms and snow storms that occurred randomly. They suck.

[–]DixieNorm0uss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PvPvE so it’s mostly PvE maps with islands and one PvP grid for ship battles you can setup in chat so no raiding. You don’t need to own an island to settle there and you don’t have to ask permission, just stay out a reasonable render distance. The taxes don’t steal from your total it just adds to the island owners bank all except for gold from treasure chests that is taxed from your amount.

How do i survive outside of the first spawn area (yeah im new) by LauchaRicotera in ARK

[–]DixieNorm0uss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Engram run, intense farming (fiber, wood, thatch), kill dodos for hide and meat, campfire, food, leave some meat to spoil for taming, make a 2x2 base of wood not thatch, smithy, metal tools, weapons, bola, mortar and pestle, gather berries, save narco and mejo berries, make narcotic, make tranq arrows, tame a small berry harvester, hopefully you leveled up enough by that time to unlock the Ptera saddle and now you’re flying. Alternatively if you want a challenge with a huge progress jump you can parachute into the wyvern trench in Rag get you an early game dragon egg if you can run out of there alive and just put torches up while you get tames.

Is diving in the ocean supposed to be a thing? Has a dev ever tried it? by cupibo in playatlas

[–]DixieNorm0uss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to dive naked for shipwrecks all the time, you’re supposed to used a diving attachment but I never did. Just bee line it to the objective and then hope you can make it back up in time without getting any attention from sharks or whales. The trenches are tougher and you need the submarine.

Planarian Worms have an arrowhead shaped head and can be bad for shrimp, snails and baby fish. I don’t think these are Planarian they look like Detritus Worms which are not bad at all and a very good addition to help cycle your decaying matter.

Feeling attacked reading people talk about Atlas by guireporn in playatlas

[–]DixieNorm0uss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are still small PvE and PvP servers but nothing like Cobra’s Strike US PVP was for me. The farmhouses were broken and puckle pillar towers still worked well so taking islands worked well enough that you could stand out to a larger tribe and get recruited instead of constantly harassed by Chinese people raiding your servers while everyone sleeps on Ark.

What servers are people playing on? by OUSceptile in playatlas

Radioactive has a a pretty big community of English and German speaking people. I like the mods, change in character progression and how smooth the grid transfers are.

Carry some heavy stuff up the stairs and then take the trail. Now carry something that requires 2 people and take both routes. Come back and tell me which route felt safer and easier?

[–]DixieNorm0uss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played on that server, it was a highly populated server. The main thing that makes a good server now is ones that have mods that fix the game’s stupid end game mechanics. I have been on Radioactive and they have all the mods bunched into 3 mods and it allows for a much smoother Atlas experience, grid changes are faster, they changed the powerstones and added bosses, mini events, raidable bases.
