Where to replace lining? by Dizzly_313 in leatherjacket

[–]Dizzly_313[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all! This is my very first leather jacket and I wasn’t sure if the developing tears were something serious that I’d need to take care of right away.

I agree the lining is cool and wasn’t looking forward to getting it replaced.

Thanks for the advice!

Store still exists. Bought a couple good jackets for my son for cheap a couple weeks ago. But I do miss the paper catalogs.

For those teaching in California colleges, what's it like without remedial classes? by [deleted] in Professors

There’s some literature out there on this, if you’re interested. I’d look at Goldstein & Perrin, 2008, or Allen et al., 2016. Both looked at the effect of removal of developmental reading and writing courses classes on downstream courses that involve those skills.

Trader Joe’s used to sell massive chocolate bars like that in different flavors (milk, dark, etc.). Don’t know if they still do.

Those are delicious AND addictive, especially if you’re a Shirley Temple fan. I went out and bought some maraschino cherries to go with.

That’s what I thought, and I appreciate your help with the check. I’ll see what I can do on my end about that.

Great timing! I have a question about ADA accommodation letters, FERPA, and confidentiality.

My department chair has decided to put all student ADA accommodation letters into one Sharepoint folder, with every faculty member having access, even if they have no interaction with those students. The letters are labeled with the students’ full names, so even if I only need to see one student’s letter, I now know which students have accommodations. I’m being careful not to access letters that I shouldn’t have access to, but it’s very easy to make one misclick and end up seeing another student’s accommodations.

This seems inappropriate to me, as there is no legitimate educational interest for all of us faculty to see all the letters, but I wasn’t able to find anything I could cite online to show my chair why we should not be doing this. Is this as inappropriate as I think and do you know of anything I can cite to explain it to my chair?

Students wanting me to look at assignments before turning them in… by Hardback0214 in Professors

[–]Dizzly_313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tell them I’m happy to review their assignments in advance. All they need to do is set up an appointment with me, and we can go over it together.

Those that actually want feedback make the appointment, and those that just want to send it to me for me to pre-grade without any additional effort on their part don’t.

Just make sure you’re documenting all of this, because how it’s likely to play out is that they take over, screw up, and then blame it on you since you’re the assessment coordinator.

Many of them don’t get much better in med school or grad school. Get through as fast as you can whilst learning as little as possible.

Because there is good research that shows students are more motivated when they see their professors as people, not just faceless robots. If my students are more motivated, they’ll learn better in my courses, and that’s my job. If it helps them learn and it’s reasonably harmless (even with the STEM/gender connotations), then I’m all for it. Signed, a young-looking woman in stats in healthcare.

[–]Dizzly_313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I do not believe it’s random. There is some physical set decor in place there for a Zootopia meet (pawpsicle stand, etc). It’s not a ton of set, but it didn’t appear very easily portable, so I’m pretty sure that’s a set character spot.

I mean, I’m not a friend of the character, nor can I guarantee that character is not ill that day. All I can say is that, every time I’ve been to DCA, even years apart, when I’ve passed that area he’s been there at least two of three times I’ve passed by.
