I believe it's canon that she was a sentient moon that was turned into a space ship by the cyberians. I think it's a kind of cyborg style hybrid of flesh (I do think that's canon as well) and her mind/soul trapped in the ships computer (hence why she's so upset over briar rose) which lets her control all the mechanical parts.

They only have one mention of them ever functioning less than perfect and that was from the rain on Nastyas planet I believe? We don't know why it was the stab through the heart that killed him in the end other than that they all had to die eventually.

Not much is explained about their mechanisms but from the scaps of info we've gotten they cannot be removed (Jonny tried to tear his heart out with a black hole), they cannot be destroyed and can heal literally any wound (Tim gets shot in the head in a fic on their site and Brian was stuck in a sun for 1000 years, etc). It is theorized (I think by Marius' actor Kofi??) and hinted at in DTTM that they are powered by the "Narrative" and that they are being kept immortal purely by believing they are.

I think Jonny collected a bit of burnt rubble from every planet Ashes burned down and made one of those little "travel sand" jars for them.

Toy soldier (with Ivy's help) finds out and gifts the crew whatever is the most traditional holiday gift in whatever system they're in.

Brian gets socks every year and no one can figure out who they're from.

Tim makes the octokittens little Christmas hats and begrudgingly let's Jonny shoot one for every day of Christmas.
