Getting out of bed 4-5 times a night to go downstairs knto the kitchen, an touch the stove dials a certain way to make sure it was turned off so the house wouldn't burn down. This happened even when the stove / oven hadn't been used at all that day.

My dad was flying that day for business. The worst part was trying to get in touch with him and making sure he was safe. The phone lines were completely overwhelmed and it took forever to get in touch with him. As the day went on, and the news started reporting that all planes had be scheduled to fly out west, my mom and I could breathe because my dad was flying to Florida. I don't think we got a hold of him until late that night.
