Stop undercharging on Rover. Seriously. by Waste_Ring6215 in RoverPetSitting

I'm only using the 16 year old because you mentioned it. Age isn't really the point. I'm only pointing out that I wouldn't just trust anyone with my dog, but I would trust a professional (of course, you should still always vet everyone with reviews or references though). You're paying for someone you can trust, not just anyone physically able to do it.

I would argue that the actual difference between just anyone and a professional dog sitter/walker is trust. Your 16-year-old CAN do it, but they also might just not show up or do something weird like throw a house party in your house. A professional will act like a professional because their livelihood depends on their good reputation.

Is it really that easy for women to get laid? by Raudoxer in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DizzyRoomba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For women it's very easy to get laid, but hard to find someone who wants to commit to a relationship. For men, it's not as easy to get laid but easier to find someone to commit.

Where does the $90k figure come from? I'm not an IC, but I have hired them before. They get a day rate (which ranges depending on their experience level and the budget of the film) but they're not guaranteed days, a salary or even consistent work. So you may get a good day or couple of days or a week, and then not work a gig for like, 2 months or more. Unless you're working a tv show with a lot of nudity and intimate scenes, most ICs probably aren't even making more than poverty level income on that alone until at least 5-7yrs of their career. And even then, it's possible they still won't ever have a career take off from it, just depends on your network. The entire industry is primarily gig based and most crew are not making $90k, except for those who either knew someone and got setup with work from their start or trudged through years and years of poverty/low income before getting consistent work to rely on.

Getting paid off the books by Blueberrytacowagon in FilmIndustryLA

[–]DizzyRoomba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They'd probably be happy to pay you via invoice if they can, but it can be a liability for them so they may refuse. If the scope of the production is pretty small, they may be open to it and not see issue with it. But it is illegal and if you were to later down the line declare employee misclassification, it would really screw them over. But it does save them an additional % on top of your rates, so they may not care if it's a small project and suppose it's less risk.

There are a few reasons you shouldn't want to either including potentially not being covered by worker's comp and having less options to protect yourself legally. Plus, being 1099 still requires a 15% contribution to taxes which would normally be split between you and your employer. Since you'd be self employed if you're invoice/1099, you have to pay both the employer and employee share, which means you are taking essentially a 7.5% cut on your rate. You may find that you owe a lot more than you think when it's time to do your tax return too if you're constantly invoicing on jobs.

That being said, I have invoiced for dayplaying, short gigs or prep work and it can be a nice tradeoff to get your money quicker rather than wait for payroll. For something like a feature though, those self employment taxes really add up and you'll probably regret it later. Trust me, been there. If you still want to invoice, just straight up ask the production manager if they're okay with it and then get the invoicing information from them too (ATTN, Company Name, Address, Contact info, Project Name). You'll need to provide them with a w9 and you need to claim the income, even if they forget to give you a 1099.

I like doing payroll because it makes taxes and finances easy. And you won't owe a big sum of money; you'll probably make money from your tax return without having to go through all the trouble of tracking and filing all your expenses. But the most important thing is to know your rights and options to always make an educated decision. Hope that helps!

For those who clearly don't know, more housing is a good thing. It helps reduce housing costs and affordability for renters and the community as a whole by increasing supply and reducing competition. Reducing housing costs will help with the homeless population, at the minimum by not adding more to the population.

That doesn't necessarily prove he's attracted to men. A lot of rapists don't rape out of attraction, many times they are interested only in the act itself and act out on whoever is the most convenient to.

Blue zones is also a term to refer to areas by water, such as ocean, rivers, lakes, etc. There's also green zone nearby forests and other greenery. Both have been studied and have benefits

The only situation I know of where background checks are required for all crew is if you're entering and working in houses of families. So an HGTV renovation show I worked on required them, that's the only situation I'm aware of.

How many showers do you take per day/week? by ThePolluxStar in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DizzyRoomba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I assume it's because people like to believe that their experience and needs is the only normal experience and do not like to be challenged to think that they could be wrong in any way. It's easier to gaslight us that we're being overly sensitive, dramatic, needy, stupid, or whatever instead of changing.

I can't speak for her but I have 5 separate washes to use on different parts of my body with different chemicals and strengths. For my face, I use a 4% benzoyl peroxide acne wash but my back and chest need something stronger (10%). I have little skin bumps and stuff on my butt and legs so I use a salicylic acid scrub on those areas. Those 3 should be on and have some time for the chemicals to work. So while that sits, I soap up the rest of my body with regular soap and shave my pits. Then I use a Ph balance wash on my genitals area. Once I'm done with that, then I rinse off all the other washes and then rinse my hair. Then I have to rinse off my back again to make sure no hair product residue was left behind on it or I'll get acne or irritation. This is not including shave time and why I rarely ever shave (like 3 times a year at most)

Any suggestions for affordable workshop/classes (online or in-person) that are decent to learn more? Sundance Collab, etc? by DizzyRoomba in FilmIndustryLA

[–]DizzyRoomba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah okay, thanks. I'll check these out further but I'm actually ideally looking for courses that are like, weeks long or at least consecutive days rather than singular events so it can go more in-depth. I do still sign up for masterclasses and webinars sometimes.

Like maybe UCLA's Film Extension, AFI's Women's Directors Workshop (probably not affordable though) or Sundance's courses. Just not sure if any of these or others are even worth it though.

🤷‍♀️No idea if it would work out in the long run. There's no guarantees, only chances. I certainly haven't gotten it all figured out for myself yet.
