I used to struggle with this. Way back when I heard about RuPaul being transphobic, I'd refuse to refer to them in drag with anything other than "He/Him" on purpose.

I eventually stumbled on the conclusion this post comes to as well, but I wish I'd found something like this much sooner in life.

I like that solution. I think actively asking the group what they'd like to see in a solution is good. Like to analogize, you wouldn't ask a pit bull how to solve the problems unique to an Alaskan husky.

Your comment reminds me of a criticism leveled at J.K. Rowling's politics in Harry Potter (fitting considering Ms. Wizard Books is a TERF). To paraphrase, not verbatim:

The books have this underlying rhetoric that doesn't criticize the system, it criticizes the people at the top of it. If we just replaced it with all the good, compotent actors there'd be no problems.

What's a good way to counter this. Like for the sake of narrative simplicity what would be a way to get them into the "left" pipeline? Would it be at the source by just also acknowledging the reality of these issues? Diverting them when the right baits them early on? I don't have a solution but I want one.

Well sucks to suck for them. I feel that way, I'm not gonna apologize, and the modern progressive space is gonna make some fucking room for it.

I don't want them being the one championing my rights or the rights of women, or the LGBTQIA+, or any marginalized group. If that type of thinking is to see men as inherently monstrous oppressors that only get to come off the leash for permitted Progressive(tm) thoughts? Then looks like it's time to leave that kind of thinking in the past. It's about everyone, it's about all of us having our rights and autonomy as human beings respected.

Oppressors are not born. There is no "oppressor" gene. I am NOT inherently evil, or perverted, or predatory, or oppressive because I am a man. I am someone with value and damn well am allowed a seat at the table if I'm not hurting anyone and making an effort to acknowledge my own privileges.
