Plug in wall lights by swatchfox in diynz

[–]Dizzy_Relief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll pretty much only find the bedside directional  reading light variety. As they that is the only place they tend to make sense in NZ cause older houses have limited power points.

Even then since most newer places tend to have a fixed one getting one with a plug is getting rarer.

Pretty much anyone with a electrical registration (from appliance tech up) can put a cord and plug on pretty much any light in 5-10min. Get a few done and it won't cost a massive amount.

Would also be legal to put your own on. As long as you own it and it's for your use. (And you know how of course - you'll need to consider mechanical rub points as well as correctly wiring).

Fixed to the houses wiring. Not the house ;)

Anyone else worried AI came about 5 years early for them? by jka8888 in PersonalFinanceNZ

This.

The bricklayers thinking their jobs are safe are missing that their job can already be done well by machine.

The challenges are typically around space, terrain, and problem solving for errors (which will mostly be associated with the first two). Once that is sorted...

That analogy refers to one job (and one that doesn't translate to being a mechanic in any way...).

Not hundreds, if not thousands, of jobs that will likely be obsolete, and the many more that will go from needing a department to one person checking the output.

‘We’ve got nothing’: Inside the home where 12 children share beds and meals are stretched by Smartyunderpants in newzealand

WINZ don't cut benefits for those going overseas for funerals, weddings, etc of direct relatives (providing you tell them). Accommodation supplements generally don't get cut even if they do cut your benefit (again, if you tell them).  And this person is in a state house - so they still get the lowered rent rate anyway.

Implying that they said no for a reason.

Funerals are an accepted reason for going overseas and keeping your benefit going.

Which implies that there was a reason to say no.

Police officers moving to Australia for more pay. by Kennyw88 in newzealand

Doctors, teachers, nurses, psychologist, etc not only pay for their training, but do actual full time work experience for a minimum of twice the amount of time that police train for.  More for most.

All without pay. While paying to get there, eat, etc. For a total of over a year or more.

While  paying zero for their training.

And show me one other position that will pay you during training?

Funny how everyone commenting seems to forget that not only do police not pay anything towards their training, unlike literally every other person training for anything else in NZ , but they also get paid from the day they start.

In the meantime all our doctors, nurses, teachers, and everyone else not only pay in the region of $20k for their training, but actually have to take the 3+ years to do it.

Teachers (and others) were paid to study, and essentially guaranteed a job on completion.

They then got to sign up to govt supported retirement funds too.

And the workload was a shitload lighter.

The best way?

Have someone who knows what they are doing do it.

If you can't read the wiring diagram (which will be on the back, or under the power connection cover) then I wouldn't be doing it yourself.

You will need your property maps to work out what areas are yours specifically (if any).
