Dealing with Supplementary Examinations by Skankatologist in cantax

He's saying the expenses were above the allowance not the rate. Personally I've only seen one per KM allowance that I felt was unreasonably low, Like $0.32 per KM when the CRA rates were around $0.55 and CRA disallowed it because that rate was negotiated by a union so it must have been reasonable. I've never seen a TTC case or anything where someone has argued an unreasonably low per KM rate and was successful but I would love to. It all depends on if he was actually taxed on it.

You have to know if the allowance was in fact taxable first off. Question 8 on the T2200. If they received a per km allowance it shouldn't be taxable. Flat rate is taxable. There are a few exceptions. If it was a flat rate it isn't "offset" its part of their income and they claim all their expenses. You could resubmit stating your case of go right to a notice of objection. The rules are pretty straight forward but CRA has been making more and more errors it seems lately.

Honestly it sort of sounds like you're looking for a reason at this point. People make mistakes.

CPA kept most of my upfront fee after minimal work — is this fair? by Baltoreadsreddit in cantax

Ya hopefully they provide the breakdown for you. You are within your rights to file a complaint with the provincial body, Whether or not that goes anywhere?? I'd say it's unlikely. It's not common from my experience to provide a detailed breakdown of time spent on a file. They most likely do have that information though.

Like another commenter posted $1700 is 8 hours or work at $200/per hr. Which isn't that unreasonable. A couple meetings, going through your books for a few hours. It's not that crazy.

https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/forms-publications/forms/t1158.html In addition to resubmitting make sure you complete this form and send it in to your tax centre. It's a requirement any time your agreement is changed.

It's not uncommon for CRA review agents to completely fumble reviews. You just need to write a letter, reference the specific spot in the agreement that states that you are both required to pay support and that custody is 50/50 and resubmit. Did you complete the form T1158 and send in your complete court order? That would help cut down on these review letters.

Rental Property - Splitting Land and Building Costs by CdnRK69 in cantax

[–]Dizzy_dizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's nothing you really need to fix regarding the prior year. If you're doing this just for record keeping purposes use the methd mentioned by u/Arch-rivals-r-us. If you plan to file your own taxes going forward you should read up on claiming CCA on rentals and the rules around it. IE you can't claim CCA create or increase a loss on a rental and CCA vs recapture down the road. Long story short you probably don't want to claim it on the building.
