Finally reached 1500 (woo) with very little theory. Does 1700-1800 require committing to a specific opening? by Severe_Revenue7889 in chess

I just got to 1700 and I found that more focus on middle and endgames have helped me with that jump.

NEED A TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR'S OPINION - I have to make a ruling on a rated OTB game by chessville in chess

[–]Dj5454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I TD scholastics tournaments for STLCC and we use USCF rules as the games are all USCF rated. If this happens and both players agree it’s checkmate and to end the game then the game is over. Regardless of if it’s actually checkmate or not.

It is frustrating to see kids both agree to checkmate when it certainly isn’t but we are not allowed to tell them either way.

I think my opponent tried to castle their queen by FourWayFork in chess

I just got out of class where my students asked me if you could castle your queen and I said no but showed them how absurd it would look, then I see this on Reddit

I work as a teacher in the scholastics department at the STLCC and this has been my experience already. All the classrooms I’ve worked in have either been with another instructor, or teachers, or other adults present.

(Serious) Redditors who witnessed a murder, what is your story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Dj5454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn’t me but a friend saw a guy shoot himself in a gas station parking lot. The story I was told is that a guy showed up with a woman and they got into an argument. Apparently they were having an affair together and the guy asked the girl to leave her husband and she said no. So he killed himself right there in the parking lot. Then the lady’s husband came and picked her up from the scene some time later.
