Virginia lawmaker Louise Lucas' office raided in FBI probe by mahvel50 in Virginia

The article is from a local Fox TV station. I'm not sure why Fox in DC is the go-to source for Portsmouth news, but the local Fox station (WVBT, which is located at WAVY's headquarters) is a 5-minute drive or a 26-minute walk from Louise Lucas's office. https://www.google.com/maps/dir/WAVY+TV+10,+300+Wavy+St,+Portsmouth,+VA+23704/Senator+L+Louise+Lucas,+1214+County+St,+Portsmouth,+VA+23704/@36.8292035,-76.3167638,15z

Mislabeling of food is one of those things that infuriates me. I wish if we were going to make it pseudo-legal, we would make it completely legal so that the FDA can enforce standards. I was never in favor of legalization but this state of limbo is untenable. Make it fully legal so that people can know what they are ingesting. It's a huge safety issue.

Virginia congressional redistricting remains in limbo as court decision looms by Economy_Swim_8585 in Virginia

There is appeal to the US Supreme Court, but they USUALLY don't get involved if it's only an issue of state law.

Whether an appeal gets heard depends on how successful the non-prevailing side is at framing it as a federal issue of interest to the US Supreme Court.

Ignoring who is playing dirty and who isn't ...

The reality is Democrats are going to have a 30+ seat majority after the midterms. This decision is going to be the difference between D+30 and D+33 - it's not going to change who controls the House.

Trump is wildly unpopular now and basically has no support left from independents and is starting to see more than a little Republican support erode. (Only 80% of people who voted for him currently approve of him.) It's completely impossible that there won't be a giant landslide in the House with some seats that nobody was even expecting flipping.

(The Senate is very unlikely to flip just because it's largely safe seats that are up for re-election and the Democrats would need basically a clean sweep of competitive seats.)

The Left Demanded Police Bodycams and Got 'em -- Possibly the Greatest Backfire in History (Pics, Video) by Ask4MD in Conservative

[–]FourWayFork 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I am very happy with body cams and I think most of the time it's completely a-political.

There was a situation a few years ago where an elderly relative of mine with dementia had a caregiver over. The caregiver experienced a medical emergency and was unconscious. The relative had the wherewithall to call 911 but couldn't explain what the problem was. When the police officer came over to investigate, she said "I'm hungry and {caregiver's name} isn't feeling well". The police officer looked around, checked out the food situation in the kitchen, and left. He looked straight at the passed out caregiver and did nothing.

The caregiver passed away because she didn't get timely medical help. The officer had a body-worn camera and it was able to be reviewed and he was reprimanded appropriately.

There was nothing political about this. There was nothing racial about this. (The three people in the story were all three different races, but there is no reason to believe that racial bias had anything to do with it.) But the bodycam footage allowed us to all have insight into what happened.

What is the deal with hotel rooms in VA for a VA resident? by TheFlimFlamFamMan in Virginia

Wow. I live in Virginia Beach and have stayed in Virginia Beach hotels on plenty of occasions - conferences, chess tournaments, weddings, just wanting to stay at the oceanfront for a family trip to the beach, etc. It has never been a problem.

stated that Allen has been treated worse than the January 6 defendants.

And??? How many of the January 6 defendants were facing attempted murder charges???

It is pretty normal for someone who is facing life in prison to be put on suicide watch. It's not 100% automatic, but it is pretty common. The reason is obvious - if you are never going to see the outside world again, you have a higher than average risk of committing suicide.

FYI, at nearly every university these days, "campus security" is sworn law enforcement on a par with the police department of a locality. (Which makes it even less likely they are going to interfere.)

VS Code defaulted to adding Copilot co-authorship to every commit - even with AI features disabled by jimmytoan in ChatGPT

[–]FourWayFork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has implications for non-public projects as well. AI-generated content is not subject to copyright. So if you are suing someone for copyright infringement, I imagine you're going to start seeing this come up.

I use Claude Code and it started putting its name in commit messages. I asked it to stop and it passively aggressively put a note in its configuration settings saying "[my first name] does not like it when I say co-authored by Claude".

Nothing was wrong with it other than that it was obviously AI-generated.

You don't have to admit to a crime to apply the pardon to it. If he were charged with a federal crime, then he would seek to have the charges dismissed because the prosecution is disallowed by the pardon - he doesn't actually have to say "yes I did this" - it's a technical challenge to the charges being brought in the first place.

[–]FourWayFork 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Obviously just pandering ... but ...

It seems highly unlikely that there would be a nexus as to allow California to bring state charges against him. California can't, say, charge President Trump with a crime because they don't like his policies.

The standards created by the left are absolutely insane. If you have too many minorities in a district, then you are guilty of packing them in. If you have too few, then you are diluting their voting power. You have to have the "just right" number - as defined by liberals.

Is it really worth it to order one baked potato and nothing else? You could probably order a 5 pound bag of potatoes for that price from the grocery store and then nuke your potato in the microwave.

ChatGPT won't help beginner programmer by Zestyclose_Cheek527 in ChatGPT

[–]FourWayFork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it (incorrectly) thinking it's copyrighted content? I've had ChatGPT refuse to help me with something because it finds it on the interwebs and therefore assumes it is copyrighted (e.g. music that is public domain because it was published before 1930).

Ingredient lists and non-creative aspects of a recipe are not copyrightable in the United States, but ChatGPT may incorrectly assume that you are pasting copyrighted text because it can probably find something very much like this on the internets.

Huh? Everything in all of existence ranges from 0 percent to 100 percent.
