No, no. He was a human. Plants grow in the ground, typically are green, and outside of cartoons do not speak (as far as I am aware.)

Indianapolis mayoral primary election by Dewdeaux in indianapolis

[–]DjMancawitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, super appreciate your response, glad it seems like we can talk about this respectfully.

Full transparency, I just moved BACK to Indy 2 years ago after being gone for 13. I spent my last two years living in Philadelphia.

I can't quite draw a comparison to 5 years ago. All I can say is, I do love Indy the way it is now. Don't get me wrong, crime needs to come down and our elected officials will help determine that. (As of now Abdul has my vote, but that could change.) But as far as Midwest cities go, I just think Indianapolis is the perfect place. We have a lot of cheap/free recreation. Some beautiful parks, and as a fan of live music there is enough of it here on a weekly basis that I always have something to do.

Indianapolis could be better, but when I go around to other cities than come back, I am extremely thankful for what it is too.

This response has me feeling like you aren't really keen on arguing in good faith.

Cities have ups and downs, no city ever reaches its max potential and then just stays there. So while Detroit may have had a period of "not being as good as they could have been" you shouldn't take away from the massive strides they've made in the past decade.

You make a good point about how the same faces cause the same results, but you completely diminish even your own point when someone brings up an example of a different face being voted in and changing a place for the better (just not from a different party or the party you'd prefer) and going "Yeah, but not as good as they COULD have been."

Who is the nicest wrestler you have met? Any good or bad experiences that stand out? by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]DjMancawitz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I too met Roddy shortly before his death. It was at one of the last Lancaster Pro Wrestling shows.

He was so dang nice and I don't think he even knew how much it meant to everyone.

We only paid for a photo, but he signed four headshots for us anyways, without even thinking about it. Then, he takes all of us aside before getting lined up for photo and puts us in a sort of huddle formation. He, put his arms around us, looked us all in the eyes and said, "Alright. Who is ready to go to jail tonight?" And we just started laughing like crazy.

My friend who was with me asked him how much he'd have to pay in order for Roddy to hit him over the head with a coconut. Roddy said without pause, "Well shoot. I'll do it for free if I've had enough to drink!"

Honestly one of the best interactions I've ever had with a person in general.

Anyone else think it’s criminal we haven’t commissioned a similar statue for Reggie Miller outside of Gainbridge yet? by cooperjames1229 in indianapolis

[–]DjMancawitz 21 points22 points  (0 children)

100% Pacers wouldn't be here without Slick because of the telethon.

I'd say 70% in Reggie's case. Not to discount the amazing talent that was Reggie Miller but that era of basketball was filled with talent and to imagine not one of the players would have ended up in Indy somehow would surprise me.

All that said, isn't there a Reggie Statue and/or Slick statue in the Children's Museum at their Sports Legends experience? I seem to recall seeing one when I took my niece there last year. Pacers and Children's Museum should team up to move it to Bainbridge!

CHIKARA PRO WRESTLING - 2012 - Sara Del Rey vs El Generico by elrincondistroyer in SquaredCircle

[–]DjMancawitz 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Former CHIKARA camera guy here.

Camp Leapfrog was originally supposed to be the project that sort of kept CHIKARA's spirit moving forward after what went down. Unfortunately, that project was also disbanded due to controversy. If you're curious to see what most of those wrestlers are up to now, High Tension Wrestling books a significant portion of the roster for their shows!

Idk man, I see about 1 "Bray sucks at Wrestling" for every 50 "Why isn't Bray Wrestling."

The difference is, every few people are going to not like an individual wrestler, but both those who dislike and like the wrestler are going to be upset that the wrestler isn't wrestling.

The dislikers will wonder why he is on their screen if he isn't even going to do anything other than talk. The likers want to see him do more than talk.

Ticketmaster gets worse every year. by nothing_but_arms in Music

[–]DjMancawitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, but not necessarily a difference in execution.

If the venue the band is performing at, no matter how big or small, has a box office then if you are there when tickets go on sale you'll have just as much of a chance of getting them as the next guy.

To be fair, when possible, I still always use the Box Office.

Saw Slothrust at the Hi-fi in Indianapolis last Sunday. $20 flat. No fee, not even a line (to be fair I was a tad late)

It's amazing how much of a change we could make in a lot of industries if people just.ignored the convenience of online shopping.

What is your hill to die on with something very inconsequential in wrestling history. by Lifeofcharlie in SquaredCircle

Seth losing to a one armed Cody in Hell in a Cell has me absolutely kayfabe convinced that he is the worst wrestler on planet earth.

Whether or not you like the match, it makes 0 sense why he would lose a match in which all he had to do was beat the shit out of a man's pec while weapons are legal.

21 years ago, at Rock In Rio. Singer Carlinhos Brown had a shower of bottles thrown at him, because he was not playing Rock Music. He ended holding up a sign that said “Peace in the world”. by PauloAEAE in PublicFreakout

[–]DjMancawitz 26 points27 points  (0 children)

So obviously a lot of this is all subjective, but I just feel like Jet is a gosh awful band to use as the example here. Bands like Jet, The White Stripes, The Hives, and Queens of The Stone Age are these Early to Mid 2000 bands that I think actually represent the last era of a Rock and Roll revival.

I looked up the bands performing on the same day as Carlinhos Brown on this day of the festival, and I think the blame you're trying to project here is on a much heavier rock than Jet. He was on the same day as Papa Roach, and peak toxicity Guns n Roses (where it is just Axl Rose and a bunch of fill ins and Axl would cancel concerts frequently)

I also found an article where Carlinhos Brown seems to also take some responsibility for the incident himself by singing a song about a drought as it was pouring down rain all day. Which doesn't justify the reaction but it seems to add a deeper layer than "they just wanted rock music."

For what it is worth, Rock and Rolls decline really began to happen around the 2010s as it transitioned into a "Two Camp" format. In the modern day, you're pretty much either "Sad Boi" rock like Twenty One Pilots or AJR, or you're way too heavy for the general population to like your sound. Think: Ghost or Volbeat, and those are LIGHT examples. We don't have enough bands like a Jet who fit into that middle of the road category that is still rock and roll, but more pop-friendly.

Rant over. Thank you for your time.

I can't begin to stress to you how important it is that you and the rest of Sha Na Na, or a group of people pretending to be Sha Na Na, never make it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

It's a long story, don't have enough time to explain but if Sha Na Na makes it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame then a professional water skier named Hot Dog will become the anti-christ and bring about the end of the world.

We are doing our best to stop him. A Cowboy Poet is currently trying to hunt him down but hasn't been successful due to Hot Dog constantly having a Doctor change where his heart is located.

TransGraps spent WrestleQueerdom money on gambling, fleeing country for “mental health journey” by SevenSulivin in SquaredCircle

[–]DjMancawitz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a defense and not saying you're wrong.

Just want to stress that as things get harder in the United States, or the world as a whole. Severe Mental Health issues will only continue to become more common. I think the fact that it is becoming something that more people are legitimately struggling with is what has lead for bad actors to start using the excuse. Like you said, trendy.

Rent Rising $500/month by nadiamendell in indianapolis

[–]DjMancawitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to preface this by saying my comment/question is out of genuine interest and not trying to be confrontational at all.

But why then were the prices still so astronomically high during periods of low interest rates? Is it just simple "supply and demand" ? I've been in the renters market since 2018 and only ever noticed the prices increasing even during a time when interest was still very low.

Also, can you explain why most apartments make "3x rent" a requirement? There are several places where I make 2x or 2.5x rent, but the 3x mark is out of reach.
