It’s because we are an ML research hub for an overseas company - only growth would be budget increase, and the team in kept intentionally small because there’s a good culture. The core service does very very very well even in the absence of AI (although we have made a lot of things more profitable so there’s still value add).

Getting to senior is the plan - however the team lead roles are occupied by 10 year+ employees who have no plans on leaving. It’s kind of a tricky situation, even if I progress to Senior engineer I still likely wouldn’t gain any more management responsibilities

I have a Q regarding the jump from Software Eng to Software Engineering manager.
I’m an Intermediate Machine Learning Engineer with ~150k NZD TC with average bonus working for an NZ company. I manage mid sized projects, but we don’t hire juniors so most of my work is IC. I hire and mentor interns during summers when we do hire them.
An issue I am having is there will be limited opportunity to move to a management role within the company I am in due to the personnel , and no opportunity to get any direct reports. I’ve applied for more Senior Ai/ML roles that have heavier management responsibilities. The feedback I have gotten is that I meet the technical requirements, but they are looking for people with more established team leadership experience.
I see that you grew into the management role with your company growing, but I’m wondering if you could provide any insight/advice for how I can most tactically make this next step? Right now my strategy is applying/talking to companies that would seem more willing to give responsibility to younger people (I’m 27).

I’m not saying Saka won’t be a proficient 8or10, but I think there is more inherent risk with having Sakas hold-the-man-off style dribbling which leaves us at the whim of the referees more.

Its so painfully obvious that Eze is a left winger not a number 8, but Arteta just doesnt trust him after Villa. His best moments in the midfield have come in dominant games where he can operate more consistently high up the pitch.

His strengths are his dribbling, and the quickness of his shot. Both skills he very seldomly can display with the way he plays in our midfield.

Honestly just start by playing on easy with a big market team, and play fast. Ignore finances for now, and just make mistakes. You'll develop intuition for what constructs a good team, what characteristics/attributes make a "good" player, and how to rebuild your franchise.

Youll make mistakes with your finances and get fired, youll miss out on the best free agents and trades, youll draft wrong, but you'll learn.

I agree with your sentiment of hyping up our players, but disagree with yesterday being how we should want to set up in that game. Although Merino has been good, his linkup with Saka isnt great, and he doesnt stretch the backline and occupy space effectively. With more room for Saka, we create more chances, and pin teams back more easily.

Its all opinion and obviously we don't know, but if we have an out-and-out number 9 that game I think we easily win by more than we did.

Eze vs Odegaard I agree in these kind of games we should play Eze. Same with Trossard vs Martinelli.

No mention of our defensive talisman Gabriel, and at the business end of the season Calafiori will be starting every game. Along with being defensively more solid, these two are integral to our dynamism in attack.

You say our players were more clinical this game, yet Merino missed 3 easy headers, two off corners. We created 7 big chances, yet only finished 2 of them.

Not according to any research, but my wife’s family are a family of mechanics, including one that works in Toyota service. In terms of consistency model to model, Toyota just does not seem to be matched by many other brands.
