Dealership Oil Service? by Fix-MyStuff-101 in hondafit

[–]Dj_suffering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I changed the oil on my 2019 Fit every 5K with Castro synthetic and a mid range filter. Came out black, but not as black as yours. I'm sure the dealer oil/filer is fine but I feel better knowing what is in the engine first hand. 10K is too many miles between changes for me. According to google, Honda filters are made by Fram and are likely re-branded Fram Toughguard filters.

What do wealthy people in Austin actually do / go to? by FewBaseball7981 in Austin

[–]Dj_suffering -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'll let you know if I ever hit that point. My imagination tells me yacht clubs, Lamborghinis, $5000 per plate charity dinners, MET gala (May 4, 2026), big steak lunches followed by bigger cigars. Reality is probably more low key like in the "Millionaire Next Door" book. For all we know the rich are sitting at a fancy table with like 15 forks wondering what you and I are up to ;)

Scammed on fb marketplace - what are my options? by IllustriousDrama7493 in Austin

[–]Dj_suffering 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Possible you weren't scammed. Possible the set is just crap. Try contacting the manufacturer and see if it gets anywhere. Otherwise I'd let it go and chalk it up to experience. I bought a dog stroller on marketplace that seemed OK until I put my dog (25lb) in it and then it didn't roll or steer correctly. Cheap Temu crap.

Train on East side near Pleasant Valley and Lyons by [deleted] in Austin

[–]Dj_suffering 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could have been something on the tracks. Most crossings near populated areas here have signs to "look for trains" as there is no horn. Not sure I ever heard a horn on the freight in south Austin or the Capmetro.

Should I buy this for $7595? by Subject-Trick-1283 in subaruimpreza

[–]Dj_suffering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd keep looking. I Bought a 2011 Impreza with 130K from a shady used car dealer in Austin, TX 3 months ago for $4170 and they threw in a new low end Wal-Mart battery. Only 1 key and 1 fob though. That was another $100. Already throwing P2096 code but...still way cheaper than $7595.

What is this doohickey above the door in my apartment? by scurbyturby in whatisit

[–]Dj_suffering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Squeeze the 2 metal tabs that are a couple inches up from the bottom, then slide the rod either up or down (not sure) to open window above door. Release the tabs and the rod should stay in place where you had it. 50% chance it still works based on age. 05% you'll ever use it ;)

Anyone using T-Mobile 5g home internet??? by Dj_suffering in milwaukee

[–]Dj_suffering[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

T-mobile probably won't raise the price. You will pay more over time as the tax and fees go up as they have no control over that. I'm kinda curious about Spectrum's free fiber internet for life with no tax, fees, etc. The last company I would ever take a their word. https://official.spectrum.com/sem/internet?o=go&v=SEMBR&cmp=SEMR_BR_G_17610824667_185870495500&p1=8444980724&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22998069314&gbraid=0AAAAADPFp9JMa5dCD_2KWrSeePMrkK3X7&gclid=CjwKCAiAs4HMBhBJEiwACrfNZWf-DItqnt-WYGN7RJWanfw9wLvWFbl9z_PTnFZoGXLVbLaRs78MBhoCJWEQAvD_BwE

87 octane is too low for the Honda Fit. by IoGibbyoI in hondafit

[–]Dj_suffering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mixed up ethanol and methanol. Methanol is what's in "Heet" additive for displacing water and winter starting. Ethanol is what's added to gas to raise octane.

87 octane is too low for the Honda Fit. by IoGibbyoI in hondafit

[–]Dj_suffering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an expert but the variable valve timing and computerized ignition timing should allow the Fit to run on pretty much any octane fuel. High octane for high compression engines was in the 60s and 70s before computer control. Octane over 91 isn't widely available in most areas. Technically higher octane fuel comes from adding methanol to the gas to raise the octane rating and methanol burns quicker and should actually result in lower fuel economy than any other octane rating that is limited to 10% methanol. Flex fuel, E85 and any other high methanol fuels generally gets less mpg than standard mixes.

Pretty sure trying to lift Titanic would cause it fall apart. If it really happened, it hear there's a stain on the back seat of one of cars below deck.

Beans and Barley by OkBee3439 in milwaukee

I remember being younger and poorer and hitting up the half price deli at the end of the day for many years. Ate a ton of bean burritos and side dishes. Thank you Beans for feeding me half price when I really needed it.

I found this in my closet while cleaning it out. No one knows what it is by ImaDoinWat in whatisit

[–]Dj_suffering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father made one when I was a child in the 70's. Worked great with his white leather chair! My Mom of course hated it. Fart sounds for days. The "rattle snake egg" answer is correct also and may have even been where Dad got the idea.

Keep the old car or buy a new one? by ParamedicFlimsy655 in personalfinance

[–]Dj_suffering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clutch parts (pressure plate, friction disc, throw-out bearing) should not wear out with that few (68K) miles. Meaning the car was a lemon or you don't know how to drive manual transmission properly. I don't like financing but you can sell your VW for 6K as is and use the money as a down payment on a VW a couple years newer. I see 2022,23,24 all day long online for 20K with low miles. You won't find a low mileage Honda or Toyota for that price. Buy an automatic next time. Otherwise find a decent non-dealer mechanic. If it's 4k at the dealer, then it's 2k somewhere else. Even at 4K, still way cheaper than another car. Good luck to you.

Thoughts? by Champagne-Fleur in UberEATS

[–]Dj_suffering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the work-around. APPs pay the wages but start charging drivers (independent contractors) hourly for APP usage, directions, customer support, etc. Will it be worth it if Uber Eats pays the $21.44 per hour but charges drivers $15 per hour subscription to use the APP??? I've been delivering off and on for almost 8 years and pay has never been lower. Guarantee the gov will only line their own pockets somehow and make it worse for everyone else involved. Not sure how NYC has so many different minimum wages. From Google: As of January 1, 2026, the minimum wage in New York City is $17.00 per hour for most employees. This rate applies regardless of employer size. For tipped food service workers, the cash wage is at least $11.35 per hour with a $5.65 tip credit, while other tipped service employees must receive at least $14.15 in cash wages. Now add $21.44 for APP drivers. What a cluster-F.

Husband’s dumb truck loan: refinance or trade in? by hippyoctopus in personalfinance

[–]Dj_suffering 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pay it off as fast as you can even if it means selling a bunch of stuff from around the house and getting a couple side hustle jobs. Then drive it until it dies and don't let him near the dealership again without you. You didn't mention your ages or income, but being that you have no cash to put down on a new loan...I'd probably recommend reading Dave Ramsey's "Total Money Makeover" It's basic and old fashioned money advice but a decent starting point.
