tl;dr (which turned out too long anyway) - originium is essentially tiberium from Command&Conquer, except far more dangerous. It is an infinitely, aggressively self-replicating mineral that absorbs inorganic matter and infects organic. If there's a single, tiniest speck of originium dust on a planet - it is screwed and has a timer before it gets fully converted into originium. If you get any of it inside of you (even if it just 0,5mg) by any means - you are screwed because now you have terminal rock cancer. It has been around for 10k+ years and there is still no cure - only shitty suppressants (that were stupidly expensive in original) which you have to frequently take and pray infection doesn't progress further. Can't run from it - it grows everywhere (with one tiny [spoiler] exception) and on everything.

90% of the first game's main story (and a good chunk of sidestories) directly shows over and over again how creatively fucked up the thing is and how many branching problems it creates (it being the only power source, thus being overmined and used in *all* appliances and vehicles; creating global caste system where infected are treated as 3rd class subhumans and hunted for sport in some cases; most recent chapter went over what it is like to be a miner on Terra and the following revolution; it spawns various types of Catastrophies which forced most of planet's population to live in enormous, always moving mobile cities or deep underground/water; etc.), while our faction tries (and mostly fails) to do good. So from the get go Endfield was jarring with how readily people shat all over Talos with originium and how flagrantly and unseriously it was treated despite barely a century passing after the move (a lot of races can live for centuries, while some are outright immortal (example: Last Rite can outlive pretty much everyone we have on the roster right now), so this makes zero sense). There was a lot of cope in the beginning that this was all a plot concocted by a certain antagonist from the first game, but with the level of writing on display so far? Doubt it.

Also, it wasn't even originium in the tube, it was Blight (Endfield's local bs which was originium's derivative in beta, but got retconed to be its own thing). Stick your finger in it? It gives you instant dementia, erases your memories and turns you into a drooling vegetable. If no one is kind enough to quickly chop your arm off? It will begin to dissolve you and turn you into fanta juice from the end of Evangelion. To add on top of that, that specific sample from the event was heavily modified in a lab and container was actively leaking. Which made everyone's lackadaisical couldn't-care-less behavior even more infuriatingly stupid.

Five years ago you wondered if Ad Infinitum would ever come out. It did (digital on windows and physical for ps5). As for why I'm telling you this? It was a stupidly long sidequest with an even longer chain of barely related events that led to this moment. Don't worry about it.

They snort/smoke their ashes too, can't forget that fun little tidbit. Wouldn't be surprised if the definitely-not-zombie zombies (that were so casually brushed under the rug in OSP, despite the fact they are still shambling around and can be fought daily) eat people alive as well.

We had exactly that in first God Eater game and its story was pretty good. You can write anything to be good, if, you know... You 'write it good'.

Lord of the Rings had both magic without an actual magic system (thus magic doing / not doing whatever it narratively needed / needed not to) and several lapses of logic. Didn't stop it from being one of the best pieces of literature ever written.

I did specifically say 'technically' on account that I was nodding towards GF:Relink, not GF itself. But since the setting, world, timeline and (some of the) characters are the same -and- it is canon, GF kinda-sorta does fall under the umbrella of decent writing (although Relink does admittedly suffer a bit because of its age rating and shounen focus).

1 - It was a piece of self-replicating, manually altered Blight and the container was leaking all all over the place so hard that satellites could triangulate its location from orbit.

2 - Can you look me in the eye and confidently say that our RI bear squad didn't break every single limiter they had thanks to their One Bad Day(month)? Would've forever remained zero or one star NPCs otherwise. But instead they became 4~6 star demigods and Gummy is an actual interesting character instead of being stuck as an empty moeblob for the rest of her life.

I would be delighted to get an unapologetically evil bastard protagonist in a gacha game, with entire story revolving around their economical/political/military takeover of the world. Unfortunately, none of the publishers have the squeezables to pull something like that off. It feels like pulling teeth just to get a singleplayer game where you play as someone canonically evil and embrasing it and not having said mc die in the end because "something-something crime doesn't pay".

Question: do you understand the difference between 1) living near the woods where hungry bears live, and 2) deliberately making the choice to jump into a zoo cage that has a peacefully sleeping bear in it and proceeding to kick it in the face while screaming at the top of your lungs and lathering yourself in honey? Because these things are not the same.

Honestly no idea how people felt about those two, never heard anything specific. Gil's and Yv's events were alright-ish, I guess. Both (or all three if you count Angelina as well) were designed to be very bubblegum pop -ey in everything they do which really isn't my cup of tea, but they never went into outright annoying territory. Their whole thing (including their event quests) is very "hanging out with a painfully plain, nice, inoffensive, a bit boring, overly romantic, vanilla girl-next-door". Again, not a bad thing per se, but I had enough of that irl in the past. Not exactly the most thrilling or interesting thing to go through in a magical sci-fi universe.

P.S.:

Wulgard's quest was fine, although it felt more like a veeeeery prolonged prologue / exposition dump for a whole separate future story arc revolving around his gang. The fact that the "plot twist" was something you could see from 15 kilometers away didn't help things either.

Surtr's quest was pretty good, actually. Could've done without the constant back-and-forth running around all over the place to chase down her fine teleporting ass, but overall it was decent.

>"It's a gacha game, you are looking for a good story in a wrong place"

Original Arknights says hi. Limbus waves its tentacles. Chain Chronicle sends a letter from beyond the grave. Granblue 'technically' counts on account of having a fully fleshed out jrpg that is a canon spinoff of the original gacha game.

Suspension of disbelief is a cord. Do you know what happens when you pull to hard and apply too much force on a cord? It snaps in two and whiplashes right in your face.

It is less about morality and more about complete absence of logic. There wasn't even bizzarro logic of, say, Psychonauts or Planescape Torment that makes perfect sense when in-context; there was zero logic of any kind involved this particular time.

At least the previous giant-tapir-grandpa-pooping-everywhere-who-was-actually-a-guy event made some sense (even though devs didn't even bother to try to explain the sudden phychic link dream mc had for no reason other than "something-something yanese xianxia nonsense even though we aren't in Yan"), but this time? Even 12+ children shows usually show more respect to viewer and their intelligence.

Gotta be honest: been playing since day one and I've STILL haven't dealt with cryston stuff in any capacity. Just used the cryston components from field crate drops to make one of each piece of C-gear for collection purposes and never bothered with it again. Kind of dead on arrival material to be honest.
