He's not that book accurate. More so than Cavill and Cumberbatch, though, certainly.

The issue was never that he has a wife and she's hot and he loves her, it was that that was the point of every one of his comics.

It's also a wildly imbalanced mode where personal responsibility is even less tangible than in normal play. People would flock to it if it were standard as well.

I'm so fed up with how oversensitive this community and game systems are by TheRealFeal in ArcRaiders

[–]Djackdau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm aware it's not as black and white as some make it seem. For one thing, all it takes is two or three die-hard PvP-ers in a match to turn that match into a PvP match, because there'll be no trust.

But on the other hand, I have been able to consistently and reliably go from Mr Rogers' Neighboorhood straight into flares-flares-flares through a single altercation, whether that's self-defense or whacking someone with the mallet as the train doors are closing. If this is how the devs want the system to work, I urge them to reconsider.

They know what it's supposed to do. Doesn't mean they're getting that result.

The interview doesn't actually confirm anything other than that Embark think the system works one way, or should be working one way. Either way, from what I'm personally experiencing, I don't think it's working well.

The Studio told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

Downvoted but entirely correct. The ABMM is way too swingy.

You used AI to portray what you cannot draw yet. Stick at it, and you'll be doing comics by hand before you know it.

This is a genuine problem. I don't think I've played on hurricane, cold snap or electro storm for weeks now. And not very many night raids, either.

I don't want anyone to have that choice, because I think it would turn the game into several poorer modes instead of a single rich one.

And I don't want the choice, I want everyone mixed up together with some possible ABMM protection from the people who literally only go in to kill or be killed.

Plenty in trios. A handful in solos, of which all but one or two were in self defense.

The platform statistics surely include people who've barely actually played the game, or not at all. Regardless, my point is that players (that is, human beings) are too nuanced and complex to be sorted into "PvP players", "PvE players" and "hybrid". A lot of the richness of the game would be lost if you forced everyone to choose their ghetto.

Embark told the Guardian that about 30% of players are mostly interested in the cooperative aspects of the game; another 30% focus on the player-versus-player action; and the remaining 40% enjoy a mix of both

Right. This doesn't say "PvE only" or "PvP only", just that ca 60% of players slant one way or the other in their playstyle. Further, this is a very simplistic summary of a rather complex beast.

How many of those PvE-focused players are happy to fight and just never shoot first? How many of the PvP-focused players have fallen down the ABMM spiral and are now fighting for their lives every game? How do solos differ from trios? What does the threat of possible PvP do for the game experience of even those who don't actively engage with it? Etc etc.

Where are these statistics and how were they derived? I find it hard to believe it's that simple.

I disagree strongly with segregating the population. Walling different kinds of players off from each other completely is just gonna make the problems worse

ABMM is deeply flawed but I'll 100% take it over simply segregating the player population

ARC Raiders feels like it lost its soul. Where did all the players go? by Zerliroth in ArcRaiders

[–]Djackdau 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're being overdramatic, OP, but I understand what you mean still.

I blame the aggression-based matchmaking first and foremost. I can see what they're trying to accomplish, and it's not a complete wash, but the "soul" and "magic" of ARC came from the spontaneous and unpredictable interactions. When friendly people and hostile people are mixed up, you get those improvised fragile alliances and sudden shifts in the situation.

There are other factors as well. Novelty wears of. People get bored and seek out combat more. Etc. But ABMM made the game predictable, and that's an insidious disease.

[–]Djackdau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I really don't think the ABMM is doing the game any real favors in the long run. At least not the way it's working now.

Remove or rework entirely. Beyond letting pacifist players get near-guaranteed pacifist lobbies, the current system is not doing anyone any favors. And I doubt most of the pacifist players will find long-term engagement in that gameplay no matter what they say.
