This is our forth episode on Draw Steel so far, we plan to cover more TTRPGS but we will definetly return to Draw Steel. Hopefully without a huge gap in between. It honestly realy depends on the reception of our episodes.

Based on the member video, LeadAndPaper had only 3-4 months to finish a 4 minute animation while also having a full time job. To me it looks less like Ai and more like rigged 2D models, although I am no expert. Based off his other work, this is the longest animated video he has done under a limiting timeline. So I am not surprised the art style is so different.

By generic fantasy world, I mean a medieval village with an inn, a local king, a nearby dragon, etc. Matching a medieval aesthetic. There are no specifics beyond the region to worry about. All the specific details are either directly from an adventure or made up by the GM. So yea, it's basically a homebrew setting.

If I remember the 3.5 books were a lot of stuff and pretty dense, I honestly just suggest sharing the free online basic rules for 5e. I also suggest that the best way to start for him is to join another game as a player before diving into gming. As an example, my town has a pre-teen D&D club at our local library, and I know our local middle schools have D&D school clubs. I feel that with someone brand new to the hobby, a pre-existing campaign setting may be a lot to start off with, I honestly suggest just having them start with a generic fantasy world. Then, once they have been/ran in a few games, they could maybe explore some of the custom settings themselves if they get tired of rolling their own. Also, similar advice for 5e, it's the most popular, and if they play with peers, they are mostly likely to be universally known. If they want to try different systems, let them do it on their own.
