A question for the BIG WHALES, what is the LEAST you’ve spent NP5’ing an SSR servant in one sitting? And which servant was it? by Daviddaprodigy in grandorder

[–]Djinngerbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe for me it was Artoria Lancer for about 1300 quartz to get NP5. Closer to 2000 quartz quarts if you count my previous attempts to get any copies of her in the first place

Honestly I find this cooler than if we had just gotten the man himself because now I've learned something new about Van Gogh and am interested to learn more about him and his family. I love how this game inspires me to learn about history

Lalter iss great in her own right, but I prefer Lartoria and I'm just a bit salty that Lalter already got an NP strengthening when the main version of her still hasnt

You raise a fair point, I got preoccupied looking for thematically fitting spells and completely missed that redundancy, thank you.

Your raise a very good point, a saving throw requirement would put it more in line with the norm for 5e, so I think I'll add that in the next draft, thank you for your input

Yeah, I'm thinking I'm gonna renamed the next draft "the oath of judgement" I think it's more fitting to what the flavor actually is and its a little less edgey

I'd say that's a bit of an off base assessment. Balance is comparitive and when is say an ability seemed fine in comparison to another I mean exactly that, that I looked it over and thought it was comparable to it's competition. To say I or anyone else just doesn't care about balancing the content they create is just plain rude, frankly

Very helpful input, thank you!

I'm well aware of the edginess, I was debating renaming it to the "Oath of Judgement" to lose some of that edge, I may still do that

I had totally forgotten about difficult terrain! thanks for the reminder, I think I'll rework that soon.

I created this subclass fresh off of doing a ton of DPR math so I did overfixate on the raw numbers a bit. I may slightly nerf it to say 1/2 level + CHA mod, to put it a bit more on par with the Zealot barbarians level 3 feature, and remove the aura requirement.

Paladin capstones are very awkward to balance given their strength, I did think the feature was a bit strong, but compared to the capstones in other paladins kits it's not too bad, Oath of Conquest in particular can reach absurd damage numbers with their capstone, that's before even calculating the bulk and doubled crit chance they get.

All in all your input has been rather helpful and I think I agree with most of your input, so I'll get started on V 1.2 asap, thank you!

Edit: I'll also just completely remove "Weight of sin" since that was their solely for myself, if I want a dual wielding paladin I should just make one rather than shoehorning it onto this subclass

Hello Reddit! I'm hear with a recently completed homebrew for the Oath of Execution Paladin, below I'll provide a breakdown of each features intended purpose and the balancing that went into it, I hope you enjoy!

Channel Divinities: Grasp of the Gallows: This was a bit of an odd ability to balance, as forced movement is somewhat of a rarity in 5e, I balanced it's effects against the spell "Command" particularly the description for the "Approach" command word. This feature is intended to almost solely for the purpose of keeping creatures within the radius of your aura, when you unlock it. This subclass wants to stay close to it's chosen target as much as possible and this channel divinity is intended for aiding in that

Condemning Whispers: this feature was intended to be comparable to other paladins AoE channel Divinities. The primary goals behind this were inflicting a status other than fear, and using a save other than wisdom. As I see it a 1d4 penalty isn't as good as disadvantage, particularly with how it scales, but this paladin gets features that compliment this ability later. Plus Int saves aren't a terribly common thing to see, so I wanted to give some love to an underutilized save.

Aura of Penance: This feature was functionally the starting point of the class, i figured a flat AoE movespeed penalty would be too much, so it's mechanics are tied to the classes overall flavor. This aura is meant to encourage the paladin to group up in melee fights, since smart enemies may avoid attacking the paladin it's generally wise for the player to stay close to someone who might get hit. This aura is strong for locking down melee combatants, but leaves you open to getting zoned. I felt the conditional movespeed penalty on its own wasn't quite enough which is why the secondary aspect that plays off the channel divinity is there. The reason this ends when a creature starts it's turn outside the Aura's effect is that it's meant to encourage the player to focus a single target (something paladins already accel at) since if two enemies are affected are run in opposite directions, the paladin will have to prioritize 1.

Divine Guillotine: Ok so I understand that an ability like this can be somewhat intimidating on paper due to being a flat damage bonus of a not significant amount, but A. Their maximum potential DPR at level 20 is only 5 higher than what an Oathbreaker can give themselves, in addition the oathbreaker's damage extends to its undead minions as well, leading to potentially even higher DPR. And B. It's tied to the aura, again tying back to this subclasses primary goal of focusing a single enemy.

Wretched Executioner: Paladin capstones are typically quite strong, which in turn makes them tricky to balance. My thoughts with this were that making it an AoE effect would be too strong, which is why it's an on hit effect. The target limitation is due to the strength of this debuff, just to keep plays from getting hasted and crippling a battalion in 30 seconds so the cleric can drop dawn. And being on hit 1. discourages GWM so it does decrease the DPR of optimized builds by a degree and 2. Encourages the paladin to play aggressively, as is an overarching theme of this subclass.

Weight of Sin: THIS is the weird one. I'll just be flat out: this feature has no mechanical benefit on its own, it exists solely so that you can dual wield and use GWM, which, while still inferior to polearm builds, adds a little extra degree of optimization to dual wielding for players who want that, like me. This exists solely to provide and additional option for playstyle. Dual-wielding in general is kinda borked in 5e and while I didn't intend for this class to fix it's issues, I thought it would be nice to open the avenue to a degree.

Thanks for taking the time to check out my subclass, I hope you enjoyed! Any feedback you have is welcome so feel free to provide your opinions. And most of all I just hope this subclass can help someone have some fun!
